Day 1: Kigali

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by an Akagera Aviation representative. They will assist you through Rwanda immigration and customs formalities. You will be taken to your driver/guide who will drive you to a local hotel where you will spend the night

Days 2 - 4: Akagera National Park

You will wake up early for breakfast, as you will have to board a 08h00 shuttle from Kigali to Magashi. You will drive 3 hours to Akagera National Park entrance where you will be met by a guide who will drive you 30 minutes to your lodge.  The lodge is situated in the productive and phenomenally diverse north-eastern corner of Akagera National Park, overlooking beautiful Lake Rwanyakazinga. Akagera comprises some of the most scenic savannah in East Africa – open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp, and grassy low mountains – and is home to one of Africa’s highest hippo densities, some very large crocodiles as well as well as the rare sitatunga and more than 520 bird species

Expert tips

Make sure you camera is charged and you have space on your memory cards at the start of every game activity. During our colder months (April-October) please bring layers as it can be cool or cold in the mornings and evenings. It is easier to take a layer off at a time as the African sun does her best to warm you up

Days 5 - 7: Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast you will depart from Magashi at 09h30 to board a 11h00 shuttle from Magashi to Kigali for 3 hours. You will have lunch at a local restaurant in Kigali before heading on to Bisate for 3 hours. Flights are also available if you would prefer. The lodge is adjacent to Volcanoes National Park. It combines the bucket-list gorilla trek. The lodge has dramatic views of the peaks of the Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes rearing up through Afro-alpine forests. Encountering one of the gorilla groups in the nearby Volcanoes National Park is a unique experience
