EAST AFRICA Romantic - Option A!

Day 1: Rwanda

Upon arrival at Kigali Airport disembark from the aircraft and proceed to clear customs and immigration formalities. Proceed to the arrivals lounge where our Customer Service Manager will meet you and assist you to the waiting transfer vehicle. Transfer to Kigali Serena Hotel, where you have a welcome dinner and spend the first night.

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park

After a leisurely morning breakfast at 10:00 am, you will be picked up by your driver/guide for a City tour of Kigali and visit the genocide Museum. Lunch at Hotel Mille Collins and thereafter depart by road to the Volcanoes National in the north western part of the country; the area commonly known for the home of the Mountain Gorillas.

Volcanoes National Park is situated along the border with neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The international boarder stretches across the whole Virunga Range, The parks boundary in Rwanda extends over some 65 km from the Congo border near Gisenyi all the way near Uganda border near Kisoro. The Volcanoes National park covers an area of 16000 hectares and is the home for the famous habituated Mountain Gorillas where 10 Gorilla families are available for trekking and 3 Families are for research.

The drive is through beautiful rolling hills, awesome landscape, bypassing coffee and banana plantations on a comfortable paved road and is approximately 3 hours from Kigali to your lodge.

Upon arrival to your lodge you will check in and the reminder of your day at leisure enjoying the beautiful nature of the surroundings of the Lodge.

Activities and Services

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park

An early breakfast, served at the lodge, before departing by road to the Parc National des Volcans headquarters at approx. 6:30am.  Here you will be allocated a guide for one of the habituated Mountain Gorilla families and given a safety briefing.  You will then be taken by vehicle to a starting point, to commence your gorilla trek in the forest.  The amount of time spent walking is dependent upon which family of Gorillas you are allocated to and where they are to be found on that day.  Once the family is sighted you will spend a maximum of one hour with the Gorilla family.  After this phenomenal wildlife experience, return to your vehicle on the edge of the forest, returning to the lodge for late lunch. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Nairobi

After an early morning breakfast at around 7am, you will Report again to the park headquarters for another experience with different endangered species in the volcanoes “the Golden Monkeys” It is normally an easy trek which might take between 1-2 hours

The golden monkeys are the rare species of old world monkey now found only in the Virunga mountain range. Now endangered it is one of the species on the endangered red list. It lives in social groups of up to 90 individuals usually led by one adult male. There are two habituated groups of Golden Monkey, one group comprises around 80 – 100 members and has its home at the foot of Mt Sabyinyo.  As with treks to see the Mountain Gorillas, treks to see the Golden Monkeys take place in the mornings and visitors are permitted to stay for 1 hour with the monkeys.

Return to the lodge for lunch.   After lunch private road transfer back to Kigali – approximate 3 hour journey.

On arrival, VIP and fast track through immigration formalities and board your scheduled flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya.

Upon arrival disembark from the aircraft where you will be met by our Customer Service Manager who will lead you to clear customs and immigration formalities and proceed to the arrivals lounge. You will be assisted to your transfer vehicles. Transfer by road to your hotel.

Day 5: Nairobi

Breakfast at Hemingways Nairobi.

Follow the footsteps of Karen Blixen as you travel along Langata, through Ngong Hills and Ngong Village and continue to the Karen Blixen Museum, contained in the house that was her home for many years. A considerable effort was undertaken to retrieve much of the original furniture, which was sold off upon her return to Denmark. The area is now a green residential neighborhood, named Karen, in her honor.

Continue to Giraffe Manor where you spend the rest of the day.

Day 6: Tsavo West National Park

Breakfast at the hotel.

After breakfast transfer to Wilson Airport for a Scheduled light flight to Tsavo West National Park.

Tsavo West National Park is a 9,000 sq km game park in southern Kenya, located about 200 km south-east of Nairobi. Separated only by the Mombasa/Nairobi road from Tsavo East, Tsavo West is part of the entire Tsavo eco-system. Famous for the Mzima Springs, with its unique underwater hippo observatory, and for the Shaitani lava flows and Chaimu volcanic crater, the park offers plenty of opportunity to explore on foot. In addition the park has recorded over 600 species of birds. The park also holds an important rhino sanctuary and is famous for elephant.

On arrival you will be met by the camp driver/guide and transferred to the camp where you spend 3 nights with game drives activities. Overnight at Finch Hattons on full board basis

Days 7 - 8: Tsavo West National Park

The Tsavo, is home to one of the largest populations of Red Elephants in East Africa, with a resident herd of over 12,000 elephants. There is also a diverse variety of wildlife featuring Buffalos, Bushbuck, Elands, Giraffes, Hartebeest, Impala, Leopards, Lions, Oryx, Wildebeest, Zebras, Hippos, Black Rhinos and many more. With over 500 bird species habitat to the area, making the Tsavo a bird spotters paradise!

Day 9: Laikipia

After breakfast transfer back to the Finch Hattons Airstrip for a scheduled flight on a light Aircraft back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

On arrival you will be assisted to connect a private chartered flight to Segera Retreat in Laikipia

Tropic Air flight No.001: Wilson Airport – Segera Airstrip: ETD 10:00 ETA 11:00

After flying for approximately 1 hour, You land at the Mukenya Airstrip, here you will be met by the retreat vehicle and driver/guide. Found deep within the highlands of Laikipia, Segera is a unique sanctuary offering you a chance to really connect with African nature. The camp runs entirely on solar energy and comprises seven two-storey villas gazing over the Laikipia Plateau with views of Mount Kenya. The villas have en-suite bathrooms and private sun decks, complete with Jacuzzi baths and swing beds. Meals and private dining are served al fresco in a number of locations, or in the retreat’s luxurious reception rooms. Activities available include game drives, walks, hides or sleep-outs, visits to cultural villages. Days 10 - 11: Laikipia

You may opt to sleep in or an early morning game drive after which you will be driven back to Segera Retreat for your breakfast. Safari activities from the Retreat as planned by your guide.

Built alongside a river teeming with wildlife, the NAY PALAD Bird Nest offers a unique concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird – set above the ground, with a 360 degree birds-eye-view of this beautiful wilderness.

Days 13 - 15: Masai Mara

Early Morning and afternoon game drives in the MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE, Kenya’s best and most scenic game park. At the northern extremity of the unique Serengeti ecosystem, blessed with a permanent water supply, the Maasai Mara has a thriving, permanent population of plains game, augmented in the dry season by the migration of two million gnus and zebras from the vast, parched Serengeti plains. Of the hunter’s "big five," elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard are quite common, while even the much rarer rhino might come out of the thicket for you. Hyenas are plentiful and the cheetah, a 60-miles-per-hour daytime hunter, is often seen.  Other marvels of the Masai Mara include giraffe, elephant, red-tailed monkeys and a host of antelope. Twice-daily interpretive game-drives led by our highly trained and experienced rangers, bird watching with resident guides and naturalists reveal the wonders of the Mara. Extra excursions included: Bush walks and Maasai community visits .

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY:  Today you may opt for an early morning balloon excursion to experience the panoramic Mara from a birds-eye @ US$603.00 per person.

Return for all meals and overnight at Sanctuary Olonana

Day 16: Nairobi

After breakfast, say good-bye to the Mara plains and transfer back by road to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip for a scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Gain an overview of Africa on your plane ride back to Nairobi

Day 17: End of Itinerary

After breakfast, say good-bye to the Mara plains and transfer back by road to Kichwa Tembo Airstrip for a scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Gain an overview of Africa on your plane ride back to Nairobi
