Day 1: Cape Town

Arrive Cape Town, mother city of the republic is the pearl of Africa sitting on the southern coastline at the very edge of the continent. The majestic Table Mountain and 12 apostles look over the spread of the city, wharf and colorful marketplaces.  You will be collected on arrival for transfer o your hotel for overnight. Relax and get acclimated to your surroundings.  This afternoon relax or perhaps explore the waterfront.  (Depending on arrival time optional City/Table Mountain Tours are available).

Dinner on own at one of the many recommended Cape Town restaurants. 

Day 2: Cape Town

This morning following breakfast you will be collected for a full day  tour of the Cape Peninsula. 

See 17th century architecture and a colorful history weave together as the drive takes you along the coastline of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, past the coastal suburbs of Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Clifton.  Stop for a photo op of Table Mountain’s towering Twelve Apostles, then on past Bakoven and Llandudno, marked by shipwrecks to the fishing village of Hout Bay.  

Head over the heights of Chapmans Peak Drive one of the worlds most spectacular passes, as breath-taking coastal scenery kaleidoscope enroute to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Charming seaside villages, picturesque bays and beaches, towering cliffs and pounding surf, and perhaps a glimpse of the Southern Right Whales just offshore (June to November).   Explore the rocky coastline and unique Fynbos  vegetation, home to birds like African Black Oystercatchers and Cape Sugarbirds and view other endemic fauna like Cape Mountain Zebra, Bontebok and Baboon as we enter into the National Park.  Climb (or ride a funicular) to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse to capture the magical vistas of False Bay, and stop at the south westernmost point of Africa, the fabled Cape of Good Hope. 

After lunch at a coastal restaurant visit Boulders Beach, for a close-up with a colony of African Penguins. The mosaic of dramatic scenery precedes the return drive as we head home through the naval village of Simonstown and over Boyes Drive returning in the late afternoon to your hotel. 

Evening dining on your own.  Reservations and transportation can be arranged at a multitude of incredible restaurants in the Cape Town area.

The Very Best of the Cape Peninsula

Take a drive through the charming and picturesque coastal suburbs of the Cape while enjoying spectacular views from the likes of the world-famous Chapman's Peak pass. Visit the charismatic penguins at Boulders Beach, view famous landmarks around the peninsula and find many little gems of the natural world on offer. Stroll through the 100-year old Kirstenbosch botanical gardens or consider changing the day slightly to include a visit to a wine farm in the Constantia Valley.

Days 3 - 5: Franschhoek

Meet your guide  today for the transfer out to the Cape Winelands and your three day stay in Franschhoek the Franschhoek Country House.  

 


 For the next three days discover the surrounding winelands—one day free and one day full winelands tour visiting local vineyards for wine tastings and discovering  the beauty of the area.  

Take a leisurely exploration of historic Wine route towns, their liquid delights and famed hospitality.  Estates visited will vary according to clients’ preference, but the tour generally includes the region’s major wine producing areas and there are chances aplenty en-route for tastings of high quality reds and whites as well as Cape Classiques (South African Champagnes) in areas including Stellenbosch, Simonsberg, Paarl and Franschhoek.   Enjoy lunch at one of the many classic restaurants in the area.  Natural and historic heritage abound in this area and your tour may take in sights such as the Afrikaans Language Monument with its panoramic Boland views, the historic estate of Boschendal with its beautifully preserved Cap Dutch Buildings and priceless period furniture.  While idyllic Franschhoek, nestled in the valley where the French Huguenots settled in 1688 is a delight to antique lovers, it’s also a delight to gastronomes with some of its world famous eateries. 

Stellenbosch, South Africas second-oldest town provides another glimpse of classic 17/18t century style with a chance to browse the quaint Dorp street, visit the museum or explore the many galleries and shops of this university town.

 

Days 6 - 8: Thornybush Game Reserve

Depart this morning for the airport for your flight to Hoedspruit airport and meet for transfer to the lodge.  
 
Nestled in the heart of the 14000ha Thornybush Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park lies Shumbalala Game Lodge. Day 9: End of Itinerary

After  a morning activitiy transfer to the airport for your departing flight to Johannesburg or onward.
