Days 1 - 3: South Luangwa National Park

Arrival at Lusaka airport, where you are met by one of our representatives and transferred to the flight to Mfuwe.

On arrival at Mfuwe, transfer to the Camp with a Lodge ranger.

Daytime meals are served in the shade of the mahogany trees, and dinner is taken under the stars accompanied by the many sounds of the Zambian night.

There is a large hippo filled lagoon close by with a ‘hide’ for guests to watch the animals unnoticed high above the water. Walking safaris from camp usually finish here with sundowners, watching the sunset over a landscape unchanged for thousands of years. This permanent water source attracts wildlife from far and wide making the camp area constantly busy with animals.

The Luwi area is famous for its lions and the thrill of tracking them on foot is an experience not to be missed. It is also home to a family of wild dogs which makes for an excellent game viewing safari. Typically your day will start early around the camp fire when you will discuss the noises and animals heard through the night.

Your morning walking safari is likely to take three to four hours returning you to camp in time for a hearty brunch. If you are transferring to Nsolo Bush Camp from Luwi then you will pack your bags in the morning and set off on foot finishing your safari at Nsolo where you will find a cool drink waiting, brunch on the table and your bags in your room. However, if you are remaining at Luwi, then you can relax in the afternoon, viewing the wildlife attracted by the lagoon, before a further safari later in the day.

Luwi was one of the South Luangwa National Park's first remote safari camps. Norman and Adrian sited the camp back in the 1980s and today this camp epitomizes the legacy of Norman Carr. The camp barely has an impact on the environment being built with natural materials and dismantled at the end of each season. Lawrence Banda is the guide / Camp Manager here and listening to his stories around the camp fire is a highlight of any Luangwa safari.

Days 4 - 6: Lower Zambezi

After your morning activity and breakfast you are transferred to the airstrip for the flight to Lower Zambezi. Here, you are welcomed by a ranger and transferred to the Camp.

Numerous activities are on offer from Chongwe River Camp. Both boat trips and canoeing can be done on the Zambezi River, while the slower-moving Chongwe River is restricted to canoeing. Fishing, best in April, September and October, is possible on a strictly 'catch and release' basis. The local specialty is the tigerfish, named for its striped body and razor-sharp teeth, but sizeable catfish and bream are also caught. Day and night safari drives are offered in both the park and the surrounding GMA. If you’re staying for a few days, opt for a full-day excursion into the Lower Zambezi National Park; this encompasses a variety of terrain and includes a sumptuous and lengthy picnic lunch.

Walking safaris are recommended, especially to the north where the foothills of the Zambezi escarpment form the Chongwe Falls. In this area you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the elusive Samango or blue monkey. Although this species isn’t rare, they inhabit humid, forested areas, and the Chongwe area is one of the most accessible pockets in southern Africa where they can be seen.

Days 7 - 9: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

After breakfast and the morning activity you are transferred to the airstrip for the flight to Livingstone. On arrival, transfer to Tongabezi.

The lodge also has a wealth of different activities on offer, all included in the price. Canoeing, island lunches, floating river meals, visits to the Mukuni Park, sunrise and sunset boating, visits to the local villages, guided bush walks, museum tours, fishing trips on the Zambezi and guided tours of Livingstone and Victoria Falls itself.
