Days 6 - 8: Ongava Private Game Reserve

Continue to Ongava Game Reserve on your scheduled air transfer by light aircraft. On the edge of Etosha Pan, in the heart of one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas, lies a place of sanctuary and renewal, where the balance of nature has been restored.... Ongava, the Realm of the Rhino.

Here, in a vast private reserve that was once unproductive farmland, this magnificent creature roams free, in the company of lion, elephant, leopard, and an abundance of other species.

The lodge is scenically nestled around a rocky outcrop and overlooks the vast plains beyond plus a productive waterhole that is floodlite at night. Ongava is a prolific 30,000 hectare (74,132 acres) private reserve bordering the acclaimed Etosha National Park.  This reserve is a conservation success story and a haven for large concentrations of wildlife; notably lion, springbok gemsbok, wildebeest, Burchels an Hartmann’s zebra, waterbuck, red hartebeest, eland and the largest populatin of the endemic black faced impala out side Etosha. Etosha’s dry-season game viewing rates as one of the top wildlife encounters on the plan et, while in the wetter months, various game species all have their young.

Highlights of your stay are game drives into Etosha National Park (Ongave is situated a short distance rom the Etosha Andersson Gate) as well as day and night drives, informative nature walks(including the opportunity to track white rhino on foot) and wildlife viewing hides on the exclusive Ongava Reserve itself.

Days 9 - 11: Hoanib River

As we depart Ongava and the Etosha Pan today the Kaokoveld and Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp will not disappoint.

The name “Skeleton Coast” conjures up romantic images of desolate beauty, the dry bed of the Hoanib River supports a thin green ribbon of vegetation and the wild beaches of the Atlantic coast are within reach, with their noisy seal colonies and eerily quiet shipwreck remnants.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp offers eight large en-suite tents (including one family unit) and the main area provide shady viewpoints, while nature drives into the surrounding area reveal a wealth of desert-adapted wildlife.

Desert-adapted lion and brown hyena may also be glimpsed in this vast but far from lifeless landscape. INSIDER'S TIP: On a stay of three nights or more, a coastal excursion to The Skeleton Coast is included. Usually involving a drive down to the coast and a flight back to camp, to see such a diverse area both on the ground and in the air.

Activities here are varied, including boating (water levels permitting), walking, viewing breathtaking landscapes, as well as carefully guided quad-bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes.
