Late morning transfer by private coach from TXL airport to Berlin-Mitte. After a delicious lunch, meet your guides for a walking tour of the historical Hackesche Höfe. Consisting of eight interconnected courtyards, the complex is one of Berlin’s finest examples of Art Deco architecture.
The area suffered immensely during the GDR times. When the wall came down in -89, not much was left of the once beautiful complex. The renovations were completed in 1997. Since then the area has become a popular place for dining, entertainment, shopping and cultural events. After the tour, it is a short stroll to your hotel, where your luggage is waiting in your room. Spend some time at leisure before transferring to dinner in the City West. Dine in style, enjoy a fabulous BBQ and cool drinks while overlooking the iconic Kurfürstendamm. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, it is time to explore Berlin by foot. Meet your local guides in reception and head out on your custom-made tour of the German Capital. With many years spent in Berlin, they all have their own stories to tell and are contemporary witnesses of the GDR times. Different experiences, backgrounds and opinions make for a bright and interesting mix. Throughout the tour, learn about WW2 and the GDR and touch on questions such as “can the two dictatorships be compared?”, “is everything a question of the system and have we learnt from history?”. At the end of this confronting tour, recoup as a group for time to reflect and discuss.
Free time after lunch until the early evening. Transfer to the final night gala dinner event.
