Miavana, Nosy Ankao

Madagascar is a celebration of the extraordinary; a place where Nature’s creative genius takes flight.

In its northern waters, the marine biodiversity culminates. In this region, you will find Nosy Ankao, part of a private five-island archipelago.

‘Blue Safari’ guided water activities will provide fascinating insights as we explore the aquamarine bays, beaches, lagoons and channels of the archipelago.

From Miavana’s western position, panoramic beach and ocean views will extend to the far contours of the mainland.

The aim is to protect and conserve the island’s vulnerable natural resources, provide employment for people from the local communities and provide world class land and marine activities for guests.

Idea off island activities:

Heli Safari

Full length would be around 3 – 4 hours which includes the helicopter transfer to one destination per adventure

Includes a selection of activities of which guests can choose (these can be chosen on the island and we will have itineraries they can choose from)

Examples are visit to Ankaraka NP OR fly over the red tsingy OR visit Amber Mt NP etc

Total flying time would be 1 + hours depending on their itinerary

The heli safaris will be finalised with you locally, depending on weather and other logistics etc during their stay.

The helicopter journey is about half an hour each way to either Amber Mountain or Ankarana – it will be a scenic journey and we have the opportunity to fly over the parks either before or after the walk so they can see them from another angle.

A guide will go with you and take you on a forest walk in Amber Mountain or in Ankarana – this will probably be an hour or two depending on what you might want to see

We can arrange for a picnic lunch to go with and be set up after a guided walk – this will be a surprise type experience.

Ankarana Reserve

Ankarana is known for it’s grey tsingy, a plateau of 150-million-year old Jurassic limestone. The rock is susceptible to erosion, which produces the amazing sharp spire like formations as well as caves and underground rivers. The area is known for housing groups of crowned lemur and Sanford’s brown lemur, with other lemur and sifaka species also recorded in the reserve.

Joffreville/Amber Mountain National Park

Joffreville is built on the edge of the Amber Mountain National Park, located about 45 minutes drive north of Diego Suarez. Amber Mountain NP is known for its endemic wildlife including many lemur species, picturesque plants, waterfalls and forests and the chance to see the fossa.

Daraina:

Flying over the Mangroves to an area high in the mountains where the guests can go see the lemurs and have a lunch.

LEMUR TREKS

Stroll through magnificent forests and enjoy seeing the lemurs - an encounter with these unique creatures is just 10 minutes away by helicopter or 25 minutes by boat. Spot the endemic Golden Crowned Sifaka, Perrier's Sifaka or the Crowned Lemur.

Try your hand at kayaking, fly and boat fishing, paddle boarding and kite surfing. Go dolphin, manta ray and whale watching, see these animals in their ocean playground. Fishing in these waters is extraordinary with Giant Trevally, Bluefin, Sail Fish, Barracuda and many more waiting to be caught...and released.

Explore the northern reaches of Madagascar on our half day helicopter safaris. Visit Ankarana or Amber Mountain National Parks, be guided through the forests by our expert guides and see the unique grey tsingy or different species of lemurs and other wildlife.

UNDERWATER

Miavana's abundant marine life will amaze you. Snorkelling and scuba diving in these clear aquamarine waters should be on your island bucket list. Take a boat to explore reefs never seen before or walk down the beach in front of your villa and straight into the coral beds not far offshore
