Day 3: Gangtok

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is an important Tibetan institute that promotes and carries on researches in the field of Tibetan language, art, religion and its culture. Its building boasts of traditional Tibetan architecture amidst lush greenery, which is a striking sight for the visitors.

  Enchey Monastery

Enchey Monastery is approximately 200 years old and is located 3 km northeast of Gangtok. It belongs to the Nyingma order of Vajrayana Buddhism. The location was blessed by Lama Drupthob Karpo, a renowned exponent of tantric art adept in Buddhism with flying powers.

  Do Drul Chorten

Located on a hillock in Gangtok, the Stupa is marked by a golden dome that can be seen from various places in Gangtok.  The Stupa was built by the Venerable Trulshik Rinpoche, head of the Nyingma order of Tibeten Buddhism, in 1945. It is surrounded by Chorten Lakhang and Guru Lakhang, where there are two huge statues of Guru Padmasambhava. It is regarded as one of the most important Buddhist stupas of Sikkim

  Rumtek Monastery

The monastery is currently the largest in Sikkim. It is home to the community of monks and where they perform the rituals and practices of the Karma Kagyu lineage. A golden stupa contains the relics of the 16th Karmapa. Opposite that building is a college, Karma Shri Nalanda Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies.

  The unique monastery experience at Lingdok:

Drive through cedar and pine forests to reach a unique all-women monastery that is sustained by the local communities. On the periphery of a beautiful village called Lingdok, neighbouring glinting terraced rice fields, scattered with bermuda grass that gives Pangthang its name, and located just 9.5 Km from the resort through enchanting cedar and pine forests - is a unique monastery and Buddhist Gompa, run and managed by women monks and sustained by the local communities. The drive is scenic, and the prayer session resonates with a spiritual fervor that has to be experienced in person. Guests will have the option of walking this path if they so desire. If you are looking for a spiritually elevating experience, this is it. We will serve pre-packed refreshments at a scenic spot near the Monastery. Camping chairs, stools, tables are set up for you to simply luxuriate in the scenery.

Himalayan Toy Train - Darjeeling to Ghum

It's roughly a 2-hour round trip from Darjeeling up to Ghum and back via Batasia Loop.

  Happy Valley Tea Estate

Established in 1854, it is Darjeeling’s second oldest tea estate. Spread over 177 hectares (440 acres), it is situated at a height of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) above sea level, 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of Darjeeling

  • Due to poor road conditions to Happy Valley Tea Garden, Innova  vehicle cannot reach up to the garden or v.v. One has to walk to reach the Factory.  From main road while going it is down-hill walk & it will take approx. 7-10 minute & while coming it is uphill walk & will take 12-15 minutes.

 

  Ghum Monastery

Old Ghoom Monastery is the popular name of Yiga Choeling. The monastery belongs to the Gelukpa or the Yellow Hat sect and is known for its 15 feet (4.6 m)-high statue of the Maitreya Buddha.

  Himalayan Mountaineering Institute & Zoo

The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was established by Tenzing Norgay, the sherpa who, along with Sir Edmund Hillary, reached the summit of Mount Everest. The campus has a memorial for him, and it also houses a museum that showcases mountaineering equipment.

  Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a Hindu navaratna temple located at Dakshineswar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the presiding deity of the temple is Bhavatarini, a form of Parashakti Adya Kali, otherwise known as Adishakti Kalika.[1]

  Victoria Memorial

The Victoria Memorial is a large marble building in Central Kolkata, which was built between 1906 and 1921. It is dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria, Empress of India from 1876 to 1901.

The Howrah Bridge is located between the twin cities of Howrah and Kolkata in West Bengal.

  Flower Market

Mullick Ghat is a 130 year old flower market, the largest in Kolkata, and one of the biggest in Asia.

The place is famous for its expertise with sculpting Indian Gods and Goddesses out of clay for different festivals in West Bengal throughout the year. They also export their idols to other countries and communities.

Today we take you to a bonedi family to witness the Durga Puja rituals which has been carried out generations after generations, take part in the Puja, interact with their family members and enjoy the puja lunch (veg). Later, pandal hoping to witness the mesmerising creation by craftsmen.
