8-Day Victoria Falls, Zambia & Chobe, Botswana - Suggested Itinerary

Day 1: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Arrive in Johannesburg - OR Tambo International Airport where a Giltedge DMC Representative will meet guests and escort them to their onward flight departure to Livingstone.

On arrival at Livingstone Airport, guests will be met with cool towels and escorted to their waiting vehicles for the short 20 minute transfer to the Hotel . On arrival at the hotel, guests will be met by a local choir (optional) whilst welcome drinks are served.

LUNCH: Buffet style at your hotel, next to the swimming pool

After lunch some time to stretch your legs with an afternoon walk of the Falls, in smaller groups (due to narrow paths), to witness Mosi-oa-Tunya, The Smoke that Thunders. The walk also takes guests past the local craft market at the entrance to the Falls for some local souvenirs. Discover how the Falls were formed and what local customs and traditions surround them. Witness the majestic Victoria Falls whilst standing amidst the spray and mist.

DINNER: Return to your hotel for a welcome dinner

Alternative: The Royal Livingstone Express Train. Late afternoon departure as you watch the sunset on the bridge overlooking the Falls. Trundle along under steam as you dine in style in one of the elegant dining cars, on this historic train which has been lovingly restored. Returning after dark to the siding (Wednesdays and Saturdays ONLY).

Day 2: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Breakfast at your hotel.

Today choose from a myriad of optional activities, in the “Adventure Capital of Africa”

- Microlight flights (15 mins)

- Horse riding (2 hours)

- Canoe safaris (half day)

- Fishing (half day)

- Bridge Tour

- Elephant interaction

LUNCH: Buffet style at your hotel, next to the swimming pool

Afternoon activities as above

DINNER: Late afternoon, guests will depart for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. This evening we suggest a dine around dinner, either at your hotel or the next door 5 star Royal Livingstone Hotel

Day 3: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Morning: Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and prepare for the days activities, choose from the list of those you may not have been able to do yesterday:

DINNER: Enjoy a dine around dinner this evening, either at your hotel, or the next door Royal Livingstone or even an informal movie night, under the stars, on the lawns!

White Water Rafting

Day 4: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

After a leisurely breakfast, guests will depart late morning for the river’s edge to board your thrilling jet boat ride (4x4 on water) 10 km’s up the Zambezi River for you Elephant interaction.

On arrival a once in a lifetime insight into these gentle giants.

LUNCH: Guests are invited to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park while enjoying scenic views across the Zambezi River and lunching alongside a few of these special elephants. This activity promises to be a truly memorable experience. Photographic opportunities with the elephants available.

Each elephant is under the charge of an experienced handler, who is familiar with the characteristics and behavioural patterns of these elephants. Zambezi Elephant Trails practices only positive reinforcement training techniques. Return to your hotel after lunch.

DINNER: Dinner at The Boma - an outdoor venue located between our two properties: the Zambezi Sun and the Royal Livingstone at a five minute walk from either property. Set up in a Traditional African Village style, this is the perfect private venue for a traditional African night. This venue with its blazing bonfire under the crisp African Sky, together with a choice of African and International Dishes and Traditional Entertainment (optional and recommended) would add an unforgettable experience to the groups stay in Zambia – a marimba band, African dancers, and face painting (may not be exclusive use for smaller groups).

Day 5: Kasane

After a leisurely breakfast, guests will depart for Chobe in Botswana.

The Chobe National Park in Botswana is only approx. a 1.5 hour drive from Victoria Falls. You will cross the Zambezi River by boat and enter Botswana.

Chobe is one of the greatest game reserves in Southern Africa and famous for the number of elephant that live here.

The Chobe River flows lazily through the Caprivi flood plains and provides a haven for huge herds of buffalo and elephant, zebra, wildebeest and impala which are followed closely by predators including lion, hyena, the elusive leopard and the odd pack of the now rare wild dog. The bird life in particular is exceptional.

LUNCH: Buffet lunch overlooking the river at your lodge

Afternoon at leisure to relax on the banks of the Chobe River followed by a sunset cruise down the Chobe River, sipping a G&T and taking in the breathtaking African sunset.

DINNER: at your lodge

Day 6: Kasane

After an early breakfast, guests will depart for a fun filled day in the Chobe National Park (Botswana).

Enjoy the first part of your day making you way up the Chobe river on a River Safari, viewing the wildlife along the way from the comfort of your boat. Making your way into the heart of the Chobe National Park. One of the greatest game reserves in southern Africa and famous for the number of elephant that live there. The Chobe River flows lazily through the Caprivi flood plains and provides a haven for huge herds of buffalo and elephant, zebra, wildebeest and impala which are followed closely by predators including lion, hyena, the elusive leopard and the odd pack of the now rare wild dog. The bird life in particular is exceptional.

LUNCH: enjoy a casual lunch stop at one of the local lodges, during the heat of the day

Afternoon: Game Drive in the Chobe National Park and a chance to spot some elusive predators

DINNER: Outdoor Boma dinner this evening, under the stars

Day 7: Kasane

Today why not try your hand at fishing for the famed Tiger Fish, which inhabit the Chobe and Kasai River systems, this can be a full or half day excursion.

The area has an amazing variety of habitats, which range from floodplains to verdant grasslands and thickets bordering the Chobe River.

- Okavango Delta full day excursion

- Game drive (half or full day)

- River safari

- Tiger Fishing on the Chobe (full or 1/2 day)

DINNER: Enjoy a sunset river cruise on the Chobe this evening for your farewell dinner

Morning to pack and check out before your transfer to either Kasane (5 minutes) or back to Livingstone Airport (1.5 hours) for your flight to Johannesburg and then onward home.
