Wednesday July 12th

You will be collected from Bisate this morning for a Gorilla Tracking adventure. Gorilla trekking takes place from Volcanoes National Park headquarters where guests are allocated to one of the twelve habituated gorilla groups for a one-hour encounter.

Requiring only that you are moderately fit and not carrying any airborne diseases, your gorilla trekking will begin early in the morning, and can take anything from one to eight hours. Accompanied by a gorilla guide, an armed ranger and, should you wish, porters, you will – in accordance with park regulations – spend an hour in the company of the gorillas.

The gorillas may be feeding from the ground, resting, moving around, or up in the trees playing about in the branches. Trackers guide you through the jungle, clearing the brush with their machete so you can get a clearer and closer look at the gorillas. It is incredible how graceful and peaceful these animals are, especially considering their incredible size. If you are lucky, you may see the silverback (mature male) get up and move around showing control over the territory.

Thursday July 13th

You will be collected from Bisate this morning and taken to track the Golden Monkey. View this beautifully coloured primate, which is endemic to the area and lives in groups of up to 30 individuals in the Park’s bamboo forest.
