Day 1: Antananarivo

Day 3: Ranomafana

After breakfast take a little tour of Antsirabe with its colourful rickshaws. Travel south through Merina territory, where you can see people cultivating rice, selling food on the roadside, to Ranomfana National Park. You will stop at Ambositra on the way, The town is famous for woodcarvings.

Day 5: Ranohira

Today you leave for Ranohia, from where you will visit Isalo National Park. The journey time will be about 5 hours and you will stop at Anja Reserve, which is an excellent place to spot the famous ringtail lemurs.

Day 7: Ifaty

The last part of your road journey will take you all the way to the coastal area around Tulear. The journey will take about 5 hours and you will break the journey with a stop at Zombitse National Park where some range-restricted species are found. Look for Verreaux's sifaka, Hubbard's sportive lemur, more ringtailed lemurs, the massive Oustalet's chameleon, Standing's day gecko and birds including the locally endemic Appert's greenbul and the stately Giant coua.

Day 8: Ifaty

After breakfast you will be taken to a nearby parcel of 'spiny bush' to see the remarkable flora. In this extremely dry habitat you'll be able to seek some very rare birds such as the aforementioned ground-roller; sub-desert mesite and LaFresnaye's vanga, along with rare reptiles like the radiated tortoise and the strange little three-eyed lizard.

Day 9: Antananarivo

You will be collected at the hotel and taken to the airport, for your flight back to Antananarivo. There you will be met again and go to the lemur park, for some last photos of these amazing little creatures.

Extend your stay at lovely Les Dunes d'Iftay by at least one night, to relax after the long road journey.

Day 10: End of Itinerary

You will be transferred back to the airport from where you will start your journey home.
