Day 1: Kisumu

Depart Nairobi after breakfast and head for Kisumu town via the great rift valley (optional flight available) 

On arrival at the hotel, proceed with check in. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Kisumu City is a quiet port town on the shores of Lake Victoria with wide streets and fine colonial architecture. Kisumu was awarded City Status in 2001 and has since grown into an attractive urban centre, with an excellent museum, one of Kenya’s largest open markets and excellent facilities for visitors.

Located just a Kilometer from Kisumu’s central business district is the Kisumu Impala Sanctuary a walking sanctuary and holding area for animals which require special protection in this densely populated area. Herds of impalas and zebras roam freely in the sanctuary.

Day 2: Kisumu

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart for Kakemega Forest at 0900hrs which is about 1hour 30 minutes drive depending on the weather. 

After a nature walk in the forest, enjoy a guided tour at the waterfalls - very good for photos.

Later in the afternoon at 1400hrs drive back to Kisumu, with a drop off at the hotel.

Spend the rest of the evening at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Kakamega county is Kenya's second most populous county after Nairobi. The county has 9 constituencies in total, namely Butere, Mumias East, Matungu, Khwisero, Shinyalu, Lurambi, ikolomani, Lugari and Malava.

Kakamega was so named because the word "kakamega" translates roughly to "pinch" in Kiluhyah, which was used to describe how European colonists would eat the staple food, ugali.

Day 3: Kisumu

After breakfast, depart for Bondo to have a site of the Kit Mikayi rock.

Enjoy a warm welcome by isikuti dancers. 

Kit Mikayi is a large rock with three rocks on top,  is located off Kisumu-Bondo Road towards Bondo.  It stands tall above many surrounding rocks in Kangeso village. The 70 ft to 80 ft stone is also a weeping rock. 

Drive to the got Ramogi and thereafter to Kogelo for a visit to the Mama Obama's compound for a little exploration and learning about her foundation.

Lunch at a local restaurant and in the afternoon drive back to Kisumu for dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Expert tips

Distance form Kisumu to Bondo is about 1hour 30 minutes. Gusests will depart via road.

Distance from Bondo to Kogelo is approximately 30 minutes.

Mama Sarah Obama's compound visist is organised by the Tourism Office of Siaya and has to be requested three days before the day of visit for confirmation. Mama Sarah is only allowed to see guests for only 45 minutes. More history will be briefed during the time of visit.

Day 4: Kisumu

Breakfast at the hotel. Clients will spend the rest of the day at Leisure

Day 5: End of Itinerary

Early Morning breakfast at 0730 hrs and hotel check out. Clients will be driven to Nairobi from Kisumu with packed lunch.

Drop off at your hotel / residence / airport ending this memorable tour.
