Day 1: Salta

Welcome to Argentina Northwest!! 

You will love the more traditional and laid back flow of  Salta.   You will experience beautiful colonial architecture , outstanding museums and the authentic peñas where the locals grab a table to enjoy their favorite folk singers. 

Upon arrival at the airport you will be greeted and transferred towards your selected hotel for check-in and accommodation.   In the afternoon you will visit the beautiful city of Salta. In this tour you will visit some of the most attractive and well known places in the city. The Basilica from 1855 - where the remains of Gral. Güemes are found - the Cultural Center of the Americas, the North Historical Museum (Cabildo) - with exhibits of sacred art and rooms dedicated to old traditional  families - the Basilica of San Francisco, the San Bernardo Convent of the Carmelite order, and you will go up to Cerro San Bernardo and enjoy its panoramic view of the city.  You will also pass by the 20 de febrero monument - where the Battle of Salta took place - and visit  the summer town San Lorenzo on the outskirts of the city with its subtropical microclimate and the Artisan Market where crafts with certification of origin from the entire province are exhibited.

You will then return to the Hotel to rest and prepare for an exciting day ahead.

Day 2: Salta

Today is at leisure.  We suggest to take the optional tour to Humahuaca Canyon, declared Cultural and Natural Heritage in July 2003 by Unesco. 

 

FD HUMAHUACA (SIB)

The journey leaves from Salta, but really begins once arrived to Purmamarca Village where time will be enough to observe the Seven Colored Hill, the Church and the Craft Market on the square, and a small walk along its narrow streets. We continue towards the town of Tilcara where we visit the Pucará (ancient ruins), the Archaeological Museum, and Huacalera, and then we cross the Capricorn Tropic, from where the colors of La Pollera de la Coya Hill can be seen and really good pictures taken because of the daylight. We visit Uquía and its church, where the paintings of the Arcabuceros Angels (important vestige in the zone of the Cuzqueña School) are kept. Arrival to Humahuaca will be at noon; this town has an important Church and the Independence Monument (the Indian) of the sculptor Soto Avendaño. After lunch we´ll observe, from the route, La Paleta del Pintor (Painter?s Palette) framing the town of Maimara. We continue to San Salvador de Jujuy where the Flag Hall and the Cathedral, characterized by its pulpit carved in wood and gold and the statues of Lola Mora are visited. Finally, we return to Salta through National Route N° 9 of abundant subtropical vegetation. The last stretch is: El Abra of Santa Laura, observing La Cienaga (The Swamp) dam, Las Maderas and Campo Alegre and returning to Salta through Vaqueros.

Day 3: Salta

Today you will enjoy a full day tour to Cafayate. The tour begins in the Lerma Valley, passing through tobacco fields and towns with colonial architecture such as Alemania, which used to be the end point of the Belgrano railway. You will continue to the Quebrada del Río Las Conchas where the curious formations eroded by the wind and water will be the main attraction: the dunes, the toad, the bishop, the devil's throat, the castles, the amphitheater, among others. Then you will continue along National Route 68 arriving at Cafayate, the youngest city in the Calchaquí Valleys internationally recognized for the strains of its wines, particularly the aromatic Torrontés, which can be tasted on visits to its wineries, whether they are artisanal. or industrial type. You will return to Salta by the same route, but with a completely different sunlight whose lighting will completely modify the stunning  landscape in the ravine.

After this incredible experience, you will return to the Hotel to rest.

Day 4: End of Itinerary

After enjoying breakfast at the Hotel  you will be transferred to Salta airport to board flight to your next destination.
