Siwa Oasis

Day notes

After breakfast, you depart at 09:30, to tour the Shali Old Town. Some buildings here are still in use, but due to the fact they were constructed primarily using salt, mud and plaster, they fall further into ruin year after year. From your time at Shali, you head to the Cleopatra Spring, Amun Temple (Om Obayda), which dates back to the 30th dynasty and the Oracle Temple, which is where Alexander the Great consulted the oracle to validate his status as the son of Zeus and thus legitimate ruler of the country. You have lunch at around 13:00 before returning to the Adrere Amellal for an afternoon of rest and your overnight arrangements.

Day 3

Siwa Oasis

Day notes

Once you’ve finished breakfast, you leave the hotel at around 10:00 to head to the local souks and bazaars, where you can purchase any items you want to pick up or just enjoy the frantic market atmosphere. After this, your return to the Adrere Amellal for lunch.

This afternoon, you head to Bir Wahed, which is around 12 kilometres South of Siwa. Here, you can find a hot spring and a cold spring at the edge of the Great Sand Sea. With water right amid the towering dunes, you ascend a dune, watch the sunset and enjoy dinner before returning to the Adrere Amellal for your overnight arrangements.

Day 4
