Morning arrival to Dawei airport & welcome by our representative, then transfer to your hotel for check-in. Dawei (formerly known as Tavoy) is the capital of Tanintharyi, the southernmost region of Myanmar. Along with other major towns of old Burma' south, it was one of the first places where the British settled after the conquest of the 1st Anglo-Burmese war in 1826. Many beautiful teakwood mansions from the colonial era are still standing, adding to a charm of this provincial center. During the day the guide will show you around to get a picture of Dawei’s daily life and famous sights.
In the early afternoon, drive to the beautiful Tizit beach. Our special half-day tour program offers a fascinating, fun insights into the lives of the fisher families who live along the stunning Dawei peninsular. This visit will give you a chance to deep dive into local fishing livelihoods, combined with a warm home welcome, hands-on fishing experience and delicious local food.
Activities during this Community Based Tourism trip include:
- Learn how local fishers use fascinating fishing gear, from low to high tide;
- Try your hand casting a fishing net or searching for shellfish with a local guide;
- Swim and relax on Tizit’s white sand beach, with a sunset seafood picnic.
Return to Dawei after 7 p.m. and enjoy free evening in town, you can stroll the busy night streets or relaxation the hotel.
Wake up and after breakfast we drive east to the orchard families of Ka Lone Htar and it's Karen keepers. This full day trip showcases the lives of fruit farmers living in Dawei’s lush inland forests.
On this Community Based Tourism trip you will:
- Visit a picturesque village, nestled in verdant forest and crystal clear rivers;
- Explore a nature trail into orchard life, livelihoods and secret swimming spots;
- Enjoy a forest picnic, and revitalize at the simply unique, barefoot forest spa.
You will have chance to hike into the orchards with local community guides, learn about great variety of fruits and crops including cardamom, betel nut, pineapple, cashew nuts, sweet potatoes and banana. The forest is also a living repository of traditional herbal medicines. Hiking is not very strenuous, but guests should bring suitable shoes.
During a picnic stop, enjoy either a delicious, home cooked picnic lunch with several dishes. There is time to relax, and it is usually possible to swim in the cool, green river. After lunch, continue to Asia's first Barefoot Forest Spa experience that invites you to bath or soak your feet in in mineral water at the local hot springs, or rest by the serene river side.
In the late afternoon we head back to Dawei for overnight.
Leisure time in the early morning, then we transfer you to Myanmar Paradise Beach Bungalows. Along the road we pass rice fields, groves and small villages until arriving at a typical fishing village from where we can hike up for half an hour to a local replica of the famed Golden Rock Pagoda. The panoramic view opening from the top is simply breathtaking, one of the best in the whole Myanmar's South - marvel at the huge Grandfather/Wemakai beach perspective opening below, with layers of hills, lagoon and white sand beaches.
Lunch can be served in a traditional and clean restaurant in a village by the foot of a hill.
In the early afternoon a short drive further south followed by another twenty minutes across the jungle covered hill and we finally arrive at Sat San Aww Beach where Myanmar Paradise Beach Bungalows is located. Rest of the day free at leisure.
Leisure time. Unwind by the beach or explore the best beaches of the Dawei Peninsula (depending on the weather conditions).
After breakfast we can drive to a small fishing village Nyaung Pyin to learn about daily life of the fishermen. Further ten minutes up and down the hills is the northern tip of the huge Grandfather beach - spanning a few kilometers in length it is the most impressive beach on the peninsula and arguably of the whole mainland Taninhtaryi region. Spend some time here walking along the coast and swimming.
In the afternoon we can drive south to another beautiful beach by the Horse Shoe Bay. Continue along the coastal cliff road towards Shin Maw Pagoda surrounded by lush evergreen forest to watch magnificent sunset from the viewpoint at the southernmost tip of peninsula. Before the sun settles completely, return to your bungalow for overnight.
After breakfast and a last swim, the driver will transfer you back to Dawei. We can stop on the way to take a closer look at local agriculture industries like rubber and cashew or betel nut plantations. Depending on the time of your flight we could visit couple more places around town until drop off at domestic airport for your onward departure flight. End of services.
