Day 6: Masai Mara

The day’s activities whilst in the Masai Mara are very much determined by the movements of wildlife and the seasons, but a typical stay would see you up by 6am for an early breakfast before heading out on a morning game drive. We aim to get you out into the park as early as possible as this is the coolest part of the day and when the animals are most active. A game drive will last around 3 to 3.5 hours and you’ll return to camp to relax in the hottest part of the day. In the late afternoon, around 3.30pm as the heat of the day wanes, you head back out on a game drive, often pausing to watch the sun sink below the horizon from a picturesque looking, with a sundowner in hand. The final part of the game drive is completed in the dark given you the opportunity to see nocturnal species. Of course there are times when you might pack a picnic lunch and spend an entire day inside the park, only returning for dinner. This is particularly the case when the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra (numbering up to 2 million) visit their Kenyan home during the months of July to September. During these months you may perch at the Mara River hoping to see a migration crossing, or head further afield from camp than usual to witness this spectacle.

Day 7: Masai Mara

A perfect complement to any stay in the Masai Mara is a hot air balloon safari over the reserve. It gives you a unique wildlife experience, but first and foremost it is an experience in tranquility and nature as your balloon glides silently across the plains. It is capped with a delicious breakfast in the bush complete with sparkling wine. Other optional activities on offer during your stay include a visit to a Masai village. Here you will see their traditional homes, called ‘manyattas’, and learn about their centuries-old customs and traditions.
