Arrival in Windhoek

We are met at the airport by our tour guide and driven to our guest house in the quiet neighbourhood of Avis. This is located on the eastern edge of the city, close to a local recreation area. The rest of the day is at leisure. We can first arrive in our holiday destination and recover from the long flight. Perhaps we will take a city tour with our tour guide in the afternoon before sampling one of the numerous game dishes over dinner.

Tsaris Mountains

Our camping adventure starts via Rehoboth and takes us to the edge of the Namib, to Tsauchab River Camp, which lies in the shade of huge fig trees with a marvellous view of the surrounding mountains. It is interestingly decorated with curious exhibits made from old tools, crates and equipment. There are various hiking trails near the camp, which we can also do unguided. We enjoy our first camping evening under the African starry sky, which shines in all its splendour here in the clear, clean air and without any disturbing light influences.

Day 3: Sesriem

Naukluft Mountains

Today we have time to get to know the stunning landscape on foot, as the surrounding area is a hiker's paradise. With our guide, we hike through wild gorges, over barren mountain ridges and wide plains. On the way, we enjoy the magnificent views of the vast foothills of the Namib. With a bit of luck, we may even spot a herd of the shy mountain or Hartmann's zebra.  Afterwards we make our way to Sesriem. Our campsite is located inside the park. We set up our tent with a view of the high dunes to the west and the majestic Naukluft Mountains to the east. If you feel like it, you can take a trip to the Elim Dune or the Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon.

Day 4: Sesriem

Sossusvlei

Early in the morning, we drive to the highest dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. As the sun is still quite low in the morning, the high dunes shimmer golden, yellow and reddish on one side, but are dark and shadowy on the other. This makes the dune ridge stand out razor-sharp. Short hike to the photogenic Dead Vlei. The trees that died a long time ago are fascinating here with their bizarrely shaped trunks and branches. We can climb the highest dune in the world and are rewarded at the top with a magnificent view.

Day 5: Swakopmund

To Swakopmund

We continue north to Solitaire, where we can sample the famous apple pie. On the way to the coastal town of Swakopmund, we cross the central Namib Desert and pass the Tropic of Capricorn. With a bit of luck, we may spot springbok, zebra and oryx on the way. We spend the night directly by the sea on the northern outskirts of Swakopmund. Dinner in a restaurant overlooking the sea.

We go on a very interesting boat trip on a catamaran or in a kayak in the Walvis Bay lagoon. We are sure to see hundreds of seals, possibly also dolphins, pelicans and flamingos. In the afternoon we have time to look around Swakopmund, go shopping or try a cake in one of the German cafés.

Day 7: Swakopmund

Once again, we stay in the coastal town. There are numerous activities that we can book on site: a desert tour in search of the "Little 5", fat bike tours, sandboarding, quad biking, camel rides, township tours, etc. A visit to the museum or the snake park is also recommended. A visit to the museum or the snake park is also recommended. We could also book a scenic flight over the vast sand sea of the Namib or the Skeleton Coast. All activities are optional. Our tour guide will give us the best advice.

Day 8: Erongo Mountains

We head further inland. We drive past the Spitzkoppe into the Erongo Mountains. The individual campsites are nestled between huge granite boulders in the wildly beautiful landscape at the foot of the Erongo Mountains. The landscape is spectacular and invites you to explore and discover. Perhaps we will climb one of the rocks and enjoy the sunset with a drink.

Day 9: Erongo Mountains

Erongo Mountains

We have the whole day to explore the remote treasures. It is said that the Erongo Mountains are one of Namibia's hidden gems. In the morning or afternoon, we visit the nearby "Living Museum of the San", where the Bushmen show us life in the Bushman village and where we learn many interesting facts about the traditional life of the San, but also about the flora and fauna of the Erongo. We also gain an insight into traditional hunting methods and survival in the bush. We enjoy another evening around the campfire and are surprised with a delicious dinner.

Day 10: Twyfelfontein

Twyfelfontein

We continue our journey via Uis and past the Brandberg massif, Namibia's highest mountain, in a northerly direction to the sandstone mountains at Twyfelfontein. The name Twyfelfontein is Afrikaans and means "dubious source". We visit the fascinating rock paintings and engravings, which were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Our campsite for today is beautifully situated between granite outcrops and has its own bathroom integrated into the rocks.

Day 11: Etosha South

Etosha National Park

Our safari continues to Etosha National Park, one of the largest game reserves in the world and considered one of the most outstanding game parks in Africa. On the edge of the Etosha Pan, a huge calcareous salt pan, there are numerous waterholes where flocks of land animals and birds can be found all year round. Our camp is just a few kilometres from the entrance to the park. In the afternoon, we go on our first game drives in the park or simply relax in the camp.

Day 12: Etosha South

Etosha National Park

Exciting animal sightings await us today in Etosha National Park We have the whole day to explore this paradise. On the way and at the various waterholes, we can observe animals such as giraffes, kudus, zebra, springbok and, with a bit of luck, even lions. We leave the park at sunset at the latest and drive back to our camp.

Day 13: Okonjima Nature Reserve

Okonjima

We leave the wildlife of Etosha Park. Today's stage is not long, so we can have breakfast and assemble our tent without rushing. We then drive to Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation, where projects with leopards and hyenas are carried out and explained. Our campsite is in a 22,000-hectare private nature reserve in the middle of the Omboroko Mountains. Afternoon game drive in search of a leopard (included in the price).

Day 14: Greater Windhoek

Drive towards Windhoek

We put up our tent one last time and then drive to a private game reserve just outside Windhoek. We can relax by the pool and reflect on the past few days. In the afternoon we can go on one last game drive (optional).

Unfortunately, our safari adventure comes to an end today. We enjoy the African sun once again before our tour guide takes us to the airport.
