Day 1: Mana Pools National Park

Arrive at Mana Main airstrip no later than 12pm and Mana West no later than 1.30pm in order to transfer to the Ruwesi Canoe Trail launch site in time to begin your canoe safari. This afternoon you paddle 12km to your first overnight stay at Little Vundu Camp. Arrive by sunset and after settling in enjoy drinks and snacks under the stars before dinner.

Day 2: Mana Pools National Park

Early start this morning as you depart after a light breakfast and begin the paddle to your next night’s accommodation at Chessa campsite, 25km’s downstream. You normally canoe for a few hours before pulling up and enjoying a morning walk. After the walk you will have a full brunch and continue on your canoe safari in the early afternoon, normally around the time the elephants are moving out onto the islands, which makes for a great afternoon on the Zambezi, gently drifting up to these bulls in your canoe. You will arrive at camp in the late afternoon where, if time allows, you will be taken on an evening game drive before dinner under the stars.

Day 3: Mana Pools National Park

Another light breakfast after which you set off for your last night’s accommodation at Ilala campsite, 24km downstream near the Sapi River.  Similar to Day two you will stop along the way to enjoy a walk or game drive before continuing to your campsite, arriving between 4-6pm. This is the final night’s accommodation and one of the most spectacular sites you will find anywhere.

Expert tips

If you would like to do a four-night canoe safari, the fourth day is spent canoeing through the Chikwenya channels (considered by Nick Murray as one of the most beautiful parts of the river). Guests will then be collected and driven back to Ilala campsite for their last night. Please enquire if interested.
