Day 1: Johannesburg

Monday

Arrive Johannesburg in the late afternoon( typically most flights from the USA/ Canada arrive late afternoon/ early evening). Our meet and greet manager will personally welcome you, and walk you across the arrivals hall, and directly into Intercontinental at the airport. A pre selected Kosher dinner delivered to your room, that you will of chosen from the menu sent by our consultant

Expert tips

Kosher meals from a local Kosher restaurant will be delivered to  your airport hotel on sealed plates, with a Kosher approved certified meal sticker and supplied utensils

Day 2: Thornybush Game Reserve

Tuesday

Morning Kosher breakfast delivered to your room. 08h45 am check out and walk 5 minutes back into the main terminal building, then take the domestic flight to the safari area. Fly 1 hour to Hoedspruit airport 10h30 - 11h25. Road transfer 30 minutes to the safari lodge. Lunch served on arrival, followed by an 3 to 4 hour afternoon safari drive with expert rangers and trackers, in search of the Big 5.

Return after enjoying sundowners  in the bush at a look out point, with lovely vistas of this amazing Big 5 reserve, and the towering mountain ranges on the horizon. 

Expert tips

They have a fully separated Kosher kitchen, that has 2 kosher equipment kits for milk and meat meals. The local chefs are regularly trained by our travelling kosher menu supervisor. You will be invited to turn on the ovens, and inspect the kosher fridge, kosher dry stores and see all items will have Heschshers on the packaging. Self supervised.  OR you can have a Mashgiach travel up to the safari lodge from Johannesburg, for approx U$ 290 a day including his accommodation. You will also need to cover his transport costs to and from Johannesburg, at approx U$ 380 total for his return flights/ and or driving costs to/ from the city to the safari lodge and back. 

They can cater all the way up to Chalav Yisrael dairy, and Mehadrin commission meat. Please ensure you make special mention of this level of ingredient, if required on your enquiry form. 

 

Day 3: Thornybush Game Reserve

Wednesday

Early morning coffees / teas and some biscotti/ fruit, and then depart on a 3 hour morning safari drive, return late morning back to the lodge for brunch. Time at leisure for possible spa treatments, or take a guided bush walk, or time in your private plunge pool on your deck in front of your room.  Mid afternoon,  we will head out again on the afternoon sundowner drive. Return after searching for nocturnal predators (such as lion, leopard, hyena) to your lodge for a lovely dinner under the stars. 

Expert tips

This incredible reserve has many miles of private safari roads, allowing the lodge to explore large , and interesting eco systems to locate the Big 5. The scenic terrain is very different to any other reserve in Africa, and hence a great plus point for safari goers wanting endless vistas, incredible sunsets, and close photographic encounters with the wildlife. 

The lodge has 6 exclusive suites, with private plunge pools, overlooking the river course, and 

The main lodge area directly overlooks a waterhole, which is regularly visited by elephant, lion, antelope and even leopard.  Its a haven of tranquility, awesome setting for a private , upmarket lodge experience, which is as good a safari, as any other safari in South Africa, and it offers the added benefit of being in a malaria free area, and a lot less travel time from Johannesburg than other more distant safari experiences. 

Day 4: Cape Town

Thursday

Early morning, 05h00 sunrise game drive to witness the awakening of the bush, the birds, the wildlife.  Return to camp for a lovely leisurely breakfast/ brunch. Check out at 11h30 am . Check in at 12h15 for your 13h55 flight to Cape Town. Arrive 16h30. Transfer 25 minutes to your hotel)

Welcome dinner.

 

Expert tips

Just  a few minutes walk from the synagogue , it also perfectly located for the Sabbath. 

Kosher meals are delivered by our preferred Kosher caterers, as well as Shabbat meals which are included in the price. 

The hotels in Cape Town are supplied by a local Kosher restaurant and caterer with seals on the plated meals, which you break at your dinner table, and eat using their supplied utensils

Day 5: Cape Town

Friday. 

Three quarter day private Cape Town City & Table Mountain tour. Includes: vehicle, guide, Table Mountain tickets, visit to the Jewish museum, plus a walk to the Kirstenbosch Tree Canopy tour. Return 2 hours before sunset back to the hotel, to prepare for Shabbos. We pre order Shabbos meals from our Kosher caterer and they are kept in good care at the hotel for the full duration of Shabbos. Hotel is 20 minutes walk from 2 Orthodox Shuls. 

Day 6: Cape Town

Saturday

Full day at leisure for Shabbat. Sabbath meals included.

Day 7: Cape Town

Sunday

Full day private Cape of Good Hope tour into Cape Point nature reserve, with stops to see Africa's only penguins, the most famous lighthouse in the southern hemisphere, and the highest sea cliffs in Africa, plus a scenic drive back along this breathtaking coastline, including Chapmans peak drive,  comparable to the Amalfi coastline in Italy or parts of the Twelve Apostle road in Australia. Return late afternoon to the hotel

Day 8: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Monday

Early morning transfer to Cape town Fly to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.  FLY 09H40- 12H25. 

Transfer to your hotel, across the famous railway bridge viewpoint, into the quieter and more tranquil setting on the Zambian side, away from mass tourism. Our lodge sits upstream from the falls, on a beautiful section of the Zambezi river, near Mosi Oa Tunya national park. Welcome lunch. and  Mid afternoon we will board a sunset cruise motorboat, which gives us close viewing of crocodiles, elephants, hippos, fish eagles etc. Return after sunset to the hotel.

Expert tips

The River Club has recently undergone a massive refurbishment, and in relation to their 5 star quality, at 4 star prices, and a family who own the lodge, that are empathetic to the Jewish cause, we can only but strongly recommend them as our handpicked option in Victoria Falls. 

They have a fully separated Kosher kitchen, that has a kosher kit for milk and meat meals. The local chefs are regularly trained by our travelling kosher menu supervisor. You will be invited to turn on the ovens, and inspect the kosher fridge, kosher dry stores and see all items will have Heschshers on the packaging. OR you can again opt for a freelance Mashgiach to fly from Johannesburg into Zambia, at the cost of U$ 290 a day including his accommodation. Flights to and from Livingstone cost approx U$ 650 return.

Day 9: Victoria Falls (Zambia)

Tuesday

Morning guided tour of the Victoria Falls, Zambian side,  and the protected rainforest within the national park, return to the hotel  and then afternoon enjoy a local project the lodge is involved in, at a nearby tribal village visit{ meeting the local Lozi and Bemba people}  

OR you can have a tour of Livingstone island if you prefer. ( OPTIONAL )

Final dinner on the banks of the Zambezi river.

( Between the months of June and December, you can also try your hand at tiger fishing! from the banks of the river, or on the motorboats. )

Day 10: End of Itinerary

Wednesday

After breakfast, road transfer to Livingstone airport . Fly back to Johannesburg International airport . Flight 14h00- 15H40.

Connect onto your outgoing international flight from 18h00 onwards.
