Day 1: Rovos Rail

DAY 1 - PRETORIA

15:00 - The Pride of Africa departs from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria and travels south via Johannesburg and Germiston towards the goldfields of the Witwatersrand. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining fellow travellers in the lounge car or observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board. Dress: Formal

Day 2: Rovos Rail

DAY 2 - KIMBERLEY

 

07:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure.

09:30 - A shallow lake appears on the right-hand side of the train where, on most occasions, there are spectacular flocks of Lesser Flamingos (approximately 23 000).

09:45 - Arrive Kimberley. Disembark for a tour of the city, Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole.

12:30 - Depart Kimberley. Travel through the Karoo.

13:00 - Lunch is served in the dining cars.

16:30 - Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board. Dress: Formal

Before retiring for the evening, please ensure that the Train Manager or Gift Shop Hostess is in possession of your passport.

Day 3: Rovos Rail

DAY 3 - UPINGTON

Please wear comfortable non-slip walking shoes for the excursion today.

07:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00.

09:00 - Disembark the train for an optional two-hour walking tour of Upington.

12:30 - Arrive in Nakop for border formalities with Namibia.

13:00 - Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels the semi-desert of the Great Karoo.

16:30 - Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to Holoog. Dress: Formal

Day 4: Rovos Rail

DAY 4 - FISH RIVER CANYON & GARAS PARK

Please wear comfortable non-slip walking shoes for the excursions today.

06:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure.

08:00 - Disembark and board the vehicles for the one-hour drive to the Fish River Canyon.

11:00 - Return to the train. Depart Holoog.

13:00 - Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels along the southern reaches of the Kalahari Basin.

15:00 - Disembark for a visit to Garas Park.

16:30 - Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train travels north through the Kalahari to Windhoek. Dress: Formal

Day 5: Rovos Rail

DAY 5 - WINDHOEK & SOSSUSVLEI

Please pack a small overnight bag for the stay in Sossusvlei. Tog bags have been placed in your suite for your convenience. See below for what is included.

07:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 09:00.

09:00 - Disembark at Windhoek Station. Visit the train museum followed by a city tour en route to the airport.

11:00 - Depart in a light aircraft for a one-hour flight to Sossusvlei.

12:30 - After check-in, enjoy lunch at the restaurant.

16:30 - Afternoon desert drive and a bush dinner after sunset. Overnight at the lodge. Dress: Casual

Day 6: Rovos Rail

DAY 6 - SOSSUSVLEI

Please ensure your overnight bag is ready to be collected from your suite by 06:00. It will be stored in the baggage area at the lodge before being loaded into the aircraft.

05:00 - An early wake-up call with tea and coffee at 05:30.

06:00 - Enjoy a desert drive with breakfast in the vlei.

1100 - Return to the lodge to use the facilities, check-out and transfer to the airstrip.

12:00 - Depart Sossusvlei in a light aircraft for the one-hour flight to Windhoek to rejoin the train.

13:30 - Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels to Otjiwarongo.

16:30 - Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served in the dining cars. Dress: Formal

Day 7: Rovos Rail

DAY 7 - ETOSHA

Please pack a small overnight bag for the stay in Etosha. See below for what is included.

07:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 09:30.

09:30 - Transfer from Otjiwarongo Station to Mokuti Lodge in the Etosha National Park. Check-in and enjoy lunch.

15:00 - Afternoon game drive (approximately 3 hours).

19:00 - Dinner at the lodge and overnight. Dress: Casual

Day 8: Rovos Rail

DAY 8 - ETOSHA

Please ensure your overnight bag is ready to be collected from your suite by 07:00 and proceed to checkout by 10:45. Your bag will be loaded into the vehicles.

06:00 - An early wake-up call with tea and coffee at 06:30.

07:00 - Enjoy a game drive in the Etosha National Park.

09:45 - Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out.

11:00 - Meet in the foyer to check out and transfer to the train at Otjiwarongo Station.

14:00 - Rejoin the train at Otjiwarongo. Enjoy lunch on board as the train departs.

16:30 - Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train.

19:30 - Dinner is served. The train travels southwest towards the Atlantic Ocean. Dress: “African” Theme or Smart Casual

Day 9: End of Itinerary

DAY 9 - WALVIS BAY

Please ensure your luggage is ready for collection at 11:45 and that you are in the possession of your passport.

07:00 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. The train traverses the Namib Desert towards Walvis Bay.

12:00 - Arrive at journey’s end in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
