Days 1 - 3: Northern Drakensberg

Against the magnificent backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa, and overlooking the secluded Mfazimnyama Valley of the Spioenkop Game Reserve, lies Three Tree Hill Lodge.

Formerly known as Three Trees at Spioenkop, this Fair Trade certified lodge, places great emphasis on Sustainable Responsible Tourism and offers spectacular scenery, locally grown farm-style country food with superb hospitality. It is the ideal environment in which to unwind and be rejuvenated.

  • Horse Trail Rides can be arranged to suit the experience and pace of the riders.  Rides are taken on the working cattle farm, adjacent to the game reserve, where game may be seen from time to time.

  • Go out on a truly authentic experience with one of the Three Trees staff members that take you to the nearby village (8km down the road) for a look into the lives of the Hambrook residents. Pop into the pre-school & visit someone’s home.

Days 4 - 6: Rorkes Drift

Fugitives’ Drift, set in a 5000-acre game reserve with 22km of river frontage, is a place where the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 is brought back to life. This private game reserve, a registered Natural Heritage Site, overlooks the famous battle sites of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift. 

Explore the 2500-hectare Fugitives’ Drift Private Nature Reserve - home to an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna species, including zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and several different kinds of antelope, and over 300 species of bird. It is best to book guided walks in advance to ensure the availability of a guide. If you would prefer to walk without a guide, it is perfectly safe to do so – get a map and a bottle of water from reception and explore free of charge.

  • Fugitives’ Drift has an extensive network of trails, suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. Enjoy seeing our wildlife, taking in the stunning views, and breathing in the clean air of the South African veld. Some of our routes also take you through some old Zulu cattle Kraals, so you can soak up some of the histories of the area at the same time. (bikes & helmets not provided, please bring your own)

Day 7: End of Itinerary

After a leisurely wake up, enjoy some breakfast – served up until 9am - on the lodge veranda.
