Thanks to minimal light pollution, the skies in Kafue National Park are exceptionally clear, offering breathtaking views of stars, planets, and celestial phenomena. Ila Community Garden: Located at Nalusanga Gate, the entrance to Kafue National Park, this project supports local communities by helping them grow and sell fresh produce. Lodge guests and travellers can purchase these products as they enter the park.

Chunga School: If you have extra space in your luggage, consider bringing supplies for the Chunga Community, such as pens, educational books, medicines, and sports equipment. Chunga School, which serves children aged 6 to 16, would greatly benefit from these donations.

Embark on our ‘Kasabushi’, an aluminum nine-seater, and enjoy the most stunning section of the Kafue River. Cruising around granite boulders and islands, through small channels, rapids and along lush green sand banks. Watch as graceful hippos pop up from under the water, crocodiles sun themselves on riverbanks, and exotic birds take flight from the surrounding trees.

Safari isn’t just about big game. Kasabushi and the area around it is a bird watcher’s paradise, with countless species of colorful birds adorning the skies. You will very likely spot vibrant kingfishers, majestic eagles, delicate weavers around the camp and if you’re very lucky maybe even the rare Pel's fishing owl.

Catch the sunrise from the top of the granite ‘Lubalanzuki’ rock and enjoy the 360° view over what feels like endless nature. An experience like no other and your very own “everything the light touches is yours” moment.

Experience the wild at its best with a guided game drive. Board our safari vehicle, equipped with open rooftops and unobstructed views. Our guides are your storytellers, sharing their vast knowledge of the flora and fauna, while tracking elusive wildlife.

Visit the rapids with its beautiful scenery of granite rock formations, birdlife and it’s lush green sand banks. In September and October you may find some clear water natural pools to dip your toes and cool down after a warm day of dusty game drives.

Joining a yoga class by the river is an invitation to harmonize with the elements, connect with nature and find inner balance in a setting that resonates with serenity. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a beginner, you will experience a profound sense of well-being and connection.

Most of the game drives are conducted in the National Park which is a ten minute boat ride from the lodge to the car park where the open vehicles are stationed. Kaingu vehicles are comfortable, 9 seat open game viewers with a canopy roof. Lodge policy is for six passengers per vehicle so that everyone has a 'window' seat. Drives on the lodge side of the river in the Game Management Area are usually short evening drives (often after a walk) in our much loved classic series III landrover.

One of Kaingu's biggest draws is the incredibly scenic river. Strewn with rocks and flowing into numerous channels it is without a doubt the prettiest stretch of the Kafue river. The Kaingu boats are six seat aluminium boats with quiet 4 stroke motors and swivel seats which are great for birding, photography, fishing or simply turning around to chat!

We are one of the very few operators conducting canoeing in Zambia outwith the Zambezi. The trips can be as long or as short as desired, and can be as placid or as rapid as you like. Overnight island sleep-outs can be part of the experience. The lodge has four custom made inflatable canoes which are perfect for exploring still and rocky channels or shooting the rapids.

Walking at Kaingu is mostly conducted in the Game Management Area around the lodge and can be as demanding or relaxing as you like. Many of the walks take advantage of the various granite hills to take advantage of sweeping views and perhaps a sundowner at the end of the walk and meeting our classic series III landrover to drive home in.

While strictly maybe not always defined as an 'activity', at Kaingu it is taken to quite a level. From simple meals on an island sleep-out through to full lodge service but on a sandy beach below the river rapids the settings and cuisine at Kaingu are hard to beat.

Game drives are one of the best ways to get close to the wonders of the animal world and our highly qualified guides lead you in comfortable open 4×4 vehicles.

On these morning and afternoon expeditions you will see four of the park's Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo) as well as a variety of other animals including cheetah, pangolin, aardvark and the magnificent wild dog.

The birdlife of Kafue National Park is also spectacular, with an exceptionally diverse list of over 560 species found in the area, including two that are very special to Zambia - the Zambian Barbet (Chaplin's Barbet), which is endemic to the area around the park, and the national bird, the African Fish Eagle. Our guides will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you as your adventure unfolds.

The morning game drive includes a stop for coffee or tea and a snack in an area of outstanding natural beauty, while the afternoon game drive pauses to enjoy the magnificent African sunset over a drink before continuing the search for these shy nocturnal animals under the starry sky.
