Boating on the permanent, deep waters of the Okavango Delta is undoubtedly one of the most memorable safari experiences one can have. We board our boats and glide through narrow reed-lined channels, where anticipation builds with every passing moment. Suddenly, the waterways open up, revealing the majestic Xakanaxa Lagoon — one of the largest and most breathtaking lagoons in the entire Okavango Delta.
Heading northwards, the landscape unfolds in quiet splendour. The mirrored reflections of papyrus and clouds dance on the water's surface, punctuated by the gentle splash of the boat and the occasional call of an African fish eagle. Water lilies float delicately along our path, and small palm-fringed islands appear like mirages — often home to red lechwe, browsing elephants, hippos wallowing in the shallows, and the occasional crocodile basking on the banks.
Birdlife abounds here — kingfishers dart between the reeds, herons and storks patrol the edges, and jacanas step lightly across the lily pads. It is a scene of serenity and raw natural beauty, an experience that stirs the soul and lingers in memory long after the journey ends.

Night Drives: Discover the secretive nocturnal world of the Delta under the stars, using spotlights to search for elusive species such as civets, genets, and owls.
Guided Bush Walks: Led by experienced guides, these walks offer a more intimate exploration of the ecosystem, focusing on tracks, plants, birdlife, and the smaller wonders of the wild.
Catch-and-Release Fishing: Seasonal and subject to water levels, fishing on the channels and lagoons offers a tranquil and rewarding way to engage with the Delta’s waterways.
Scenic Helicopter Flights: For a bird’s-eye view of the Okavango’s stunning landscapes, guests can take to the skies and witness the intricate network of channels and islands from above.

Birding at Gomoti River Lodge is a richly rewarding experience, both within the lodge’s grounds and while out on expertly guided game drives. Set along the seasonal Gomoti River in the southern reaches of the Okavango Delta, the lodge is surrounded by a mosaic of habitats—from seasonal wetlands and lily-dotted lagoons to dense riverine forests and open woodlands—each providing a haven for a remarkable variety of birdlife. In camp, early mornings are filled with the melodic calls of white-browed robin-chats and the drumming of woodpeckers, while African paradise flycatchers flit through the trees and malachite kingfishers perch at the water’s edge. The diversity of species observable without even leaving camp is astounding, making it a birdwatcher’s sanctuary.

At Gomoti River Lodge , sundowners are more than just a ritual—they are a celebration of the African day’s end, embraced in true Botswana style. As the golden hour begins to stretch across the sky, guests are whisked away to carefully chosen vantage points—perhaps a quiet bend along the river or a sandy rise with uninterrupted views of the Okavango floodplains. There, with a chilled drink in hand and the sounds of the bush around you, the magic of the wilderness comes alive.
It’s a moment to pause and take in the theatre of nature—the deepening colours, the silhouettes of elephants in the distance, and the calls of night creatures beginning their shift. Whether it’s a classic gin and tonic or a local favourite, every sip tastes richer against the backdrop of a fiery African sunset.
At Losika, sundowners are thoughtfully curated: comfortable seating, lanterns glowing softly as darkness falls, and your guide sharing stories of the land. It’s not just a drink; it’s a memory being made—an unforgettable close to a day on safari.

Mokoro excursions, available when water levels are ideal, provide a tranquil and intimate way to explore the Delta’s seasonal floodplains. Traditionally crafted from wood, modern fiberglass mokoros preserve the distinctive shape and silent glide of their wooden predecessors, ensuring minimal environmental impact. As you gently navigate winding channels and serene lagoons, you’ll uncover a quieter, more hidden side of the wilderness—perfect for observing aquatic birds, colorful reed frogs, and a variety of water-dwelling creatures. This activity is particularly enchanting during the peak flood season when the Delta is at its most lush and navigable, offering a truly immersive experience in one of Africa's most pristine ecosystems.

Shorobe Village Experience
Our journey includes a meaningful stop at Shorobe Village, renowned for its vibrant women's cooperative, where skilled artisans craft exquisite woven baskets using age-old traditional techniques passed down through generations. This is a wonderful opportunity to admire their craftsmanship — and perhaps take home a beautiful, authentic keepsake.
While in the village, your guide — a proud local from the region — will share insights into rural life in the Okavango Delta, offering a personal perspective on the traditions, challenges, and rhythms of daily life in this unique part of Botswana. This visit is not just about sightseeing; it's a chance to connect, learn, and engage with the culture in a respectful and enriching way.
To deepen the experience, we’ve also thoughtfully incorporated elements of local cuisine into our menus, adding a delicious and authentic taste of Botswana to your safari. And of course, no visit would be complete without a bit of song — many of our staff love to sing, and their joyful harmonies often become a treasured memory for our guests.
Cultural interaction is not just an add-on; it’s an essential part of the journey, and we’re proud to share it with you.
