San Camp | Makgadikgadi Salt Pans

Classic white tents perched on the shore of an enormous sparkling salt pan, each sheltered by a cluster of stately desert palms. Spectacular vistas, soothing and serene - pared down safari elegance with minimal ecological impact, it is the nothingness that attracts. San Camp runs almost entirely on solar energy, thus dramatically reducing the use of fossil fuels. The perfect place to relax, unwind and retreat.

Offering 5 twin and 2 double tents with en-suite bathrooms and spacious veranda, the rooms are spacious and stylish.

San Camp is open only for 6 months of the year during the dry season (16th of April to 15th of October). You are encouraged to go quad biking across the lunar expanse of the pans, lie out on the pans as the sun sets watching the planetarium show unfold with horizon-to-horizon stars. Get unbelievably up close and personal with meerkats; spend time walking and interacting with a group of Zu/’hoasi Bushmen to gain insight into their ancient culture; game drive to experience unique desert wildlife. You can visit Fallen Baobab, campsite of Livingstone & Selous and one of the three largest and oldest trees in Africa. Relax into the solitude of your environment under canopy of the yoga pavilion.

Wilderness Little Kulala | Sossusvlei

This desert retreat is situated on the dry Auab riverbed in the Kulala Wilderness Reserve. The 11 climate-controlled, thatched “kulalas” merge seamlessly into the timeless desert landscape, with exquisite fittings and fixtures, and each with a private plunge pool. The extensive use of neutral colours, gorgeous textures and natural light reproduce the soothing pastel tones of the desert. Each villa has a rooftop “skybed” for romantic star gazing, with both indoor and outdoor showers. An elegant entertainment area includes al fresco fine dining as a highlight. Varied activities aim at acquainting guests with the splendour, solitude and stark beauty of the Namib Desert, with excursions to Sossusvlei (via our own private gate), and nature drives and walks providing awe-inspiring views of desert-adapted wildlife and plants. A balloon safari (at extra cost) offers a unique experience soaring silently above the desert, while eco-sensitive quad biking explores this beautiful area on the ground. NOTE: Ballooning closed from mid-January to mid-February.

Tok Tokkie Trails | NamibRand Nature Reserve

The Tok Tokkie Trails walking safari for between 2 to 8 guests, takes you close to the desert’s stunning beauty. Whilst walking, you will discover many secrets of the Namib that cannot be experienced when driving. You will get to feel different aspects of the Namib – from mountainous terrain to sandy dunes, the fog-basking Tok Tokkie beetles, barking geckos, dancing spiders, bat-eared foxes, and many more - the desert is not deserted at all.

A back-up team does all the chores for you. Although you will be in the middle of pristine nature you can look forward to the luxuries that you do not want to miss.

* Sundowners, romantic 3-course dinners and all other meals out in the dunes
* Sleep out under a billion stars
* Hot bucket shower and open air toilet with splendid vistas

Bring only "worn in" light hiking boots - all other equipment is supplied. Tok Tokkie Trails is an all inclusive experience: Meals and drinks are included.

The trail is not difficult, but challenging. Fitness and good condition is essential as the trails entail 7 to 8 hours walking. Your main luggage will be transported by a back-up vehicle; you only have to carry a day pack, including a lunch pack, water and your camera equipment. As some of the routes lead through rough terrain and over sand dunes it requires well-balanced and secure walking. Please be aware of high temperature fluctuations, which can reach a high of 35°C during the day whilst sometimes plummeting down to -5°C at night, which can cause additional stress to your heart and circulation. We recommend you to prepare yourself for the trail with some fitness training.

NamibRand Nature Reserve is a model for private conservation and low-impact tourism. The reserve integrates a number of former livestock farms into one huge protected area where wildlife can once again roam free. Comprising of more than 170.000 hectares the biodiversity is astounding and includes endangered cheetah and lappet faced vulture as well as many of the Namib's famous endemics, the Dune Lark and Grants Golden Mole, just to name a few. The funds generated through a daily per-bed fee from the few high-quality, low impact tourism concessions in the park sustain conservation and enable the Reserve to be financially self-sustaining. With its diversity of pristine landscapes and awe-inspiring beauty it is a soulful destination for nature loving travellers.

Wolwedans Desert Lodge | NamibRand Nature Reserve

The Dunes Lodge is perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions and capturing the beauty of the desert in a most memorable way.

The building style is a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds, opening up to the desert beyond. The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the nine spacious chalets with en-suite bathrooms has a private verandah that connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open is just like sleeping under the stars.

The main complex  consists of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, a fireplace, a tea deck, a library, the wine cellar and two dining rooms.

The lodge also has a swimming pool, which is suspended above the sand. All communal areas of the lodge open out onto decks with superb views. The variety of recreational space makes a visit both exciting and relaxing. To make the most of your visit we recommend you stay for three nights…
