High in the foothills of the spectacular Northern Drakensberg, situated on 3000 hectares of private mountain reserve and surrounded by towering mountains, forests and streams, lies a unique family resort – The Cavern.

This beautifully designed, full board resort, approximately 50 km from Bergville and 30 minutes from the Royal Natal National Park, a World Heritage site, has won numerous accolades and awards over the years. It offers a choice of standard and superior rooms, as well as a selection of superior suites separated from the main resort for the ultimate peace and privacy.

The Caverns offers all sorts of activities, such as two daily guided hikes, fly-fishing and horse trails for the experienced and for the ‘not-so-sure’. Mountain bike trails will keep cyclists busy for days. The pool is the perfect place to relax with a book, a tray of tea or a cold beer. For those up for a challenge, there’s tennis, lawn bowls and board games, such as scrabble, chess or backgammon. The Caverns welcomes children. There are pony rides, canoeing trips on the dam and a safe, exciting playground in a garden setting.

The Cavern is named after the Cannibal Cavern, a 200 metre wide and 60 metre deep overhang, situated above the hotel, which was home to ancestors of the Amazizi tribe. The Cavern and its surrounds are home to numerous bushman paintings, 213 species of birds, 150 species of trees and numerous wild animals. As a nature lover, this is an ideal location. Guests can enjoy guided hikes and horse rides as well as the remarkable forest spa, set high up in the exquisite indigenous forest. (ITT)
