Camp Xakanaxa | Moremi Game Reserve

Camp Xakanaxa is a charming, traditional-style safari camp located in the heart of Botswana’s renowned Moremi Game Reserve, one of the most wildlife-rich areas in the Okavango Delta. Shaded by ancient Kigelia and leadwood trees, the camp overlooks the picturesque Xakanaxa Lagoon, offering stunning views and a classic Delta experience.
Nestled beneath shady riverine woodland, Camp Xakanaxa blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The main area is built with local timber, reed, and thatch, raised on stilts to enhance the lagoon views and adapt to the Delta’s seasonal floods.
- Main Area: Features a cozy lounge with comfortable seating, a small library, and a self-service bar. A spacious, partially shaded deck offers breathtaking lagoon views, while communal dining tables and a firepit by the jetty create inviting spaces to relax and socialize.
- Pools: Guests can cool off in a small plunge pool overlooking the lagoon or swim in a larger pool set near the reception area.
- Curio Shop: A small shop near the reception offers locally crafted souvenirs.
Camp Xakanaxa offers 12 Meru-style tents, all set on raised wooden decks with private verandas overlooking the lagoon.
- Room Features:
- Double or twin beds with mosquito nets and ceiling fans
- En-suite bathrooms with twin basins, hot showers, flushing toilets, and outdoor-inspired designs
- Writing desk, luggage rack, and additional dressing area with storage
- Electronic safes, hairdryers, and hot water bottles for cooler nights
- USB charging points and standing fans
- Family Tent: Two connected tents with shared bathroom facilities, ideal for families with children.
Camp Xakanaxa offers a variety of activities to explore the Delta’s rich ecosystem:
- Game Drives: Daytime drives in open 4WD vehicles provide excellent opportunities to spot lions, leopards, wild dogs, and other wildlife.
- Boat Cruises: Motorboat trips on the Xakanaxa Lagoon and surrounding channels are perfect for birdwatching (especially December–April) and seeking elusive species like the sitatunga antelope.
Note: Due to Moremi’s public park status, night drives, walking safaris, and off-road driving are not permitted. Tall grass during the green season may sometimes obscure game sightings.
The Moremi Game Reserve is known for its abundant wildlife and beautiful landscapes, from mopane forests to vast floodplains. Highlights include large populations of elephants, buffalo, and predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The area also offers superb birdwatching, with species like Pel’s fishing owl and other migratory birds during the summer months.
Practical Details
- Game Drives: Maximum of six guests per vehicle (up to nine during peak times). Private vehicles and specialist guides are available for an additional cost.
- Single Travelers: No single supplement from November to May, making it an excellent choice for solo adventurers.
- Access: Camp Xakanaxa is accessible by boat transfers or light aircraft, and its location allows easy connections to other camps in the Delta.
Botswana Safari Company & Conservation Safari Company recommends Xakanaxa as a traditional and relaxed safari experience in one of Botswana’s top wildlife destinations. Its affordable pricing and proximity to other camps make it ideal for starting your safari adventure. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, birdwatcher, or first-time safari-goer, Xakanaxa delivers an authentic and memorable Okavango experience.

Xugana Island Lodge | Okavango Delta

-01-14.jpg)

Xugana Lagoon is widely accepted as being the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta. Xugana Island Lodge, situated on a wooded island abutting the lagoon, takes full advantage of this magnificent site. The thatched common area, comprising cocktail bar, lounge and curio shop, is still the original building put up in 1974, when Xugana became only the second tourist lodge ever built in the Okavango Delta. Meals, for which the lodge is justly famous, are taken alfresco on the edge of the lagoon, except on those rare occasions of rain when the lounge doubles as the dining-room. Tea is often served in the garden inside the island, where quiet, secluded reading benches can also be found.
Xugana Island Lodge is in a private concession offering a range of activities giving you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides. Explore the crystal-clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat for the chance to enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.
Your experienced guide will also take you on a guided nature walk on surrounding islands in the concession, giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal. Day and night game drives are also available within the private concession for a chance to search for the prolific wildlife found in the area.
Catch and release fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an added activity at the lodge (season dependent).
Conservation Safari Company recommends Xugana for its excellent Okavango experience, beautiful and remote camp, and fabulous staff.
Rates are inclusive of accommodation, scheduled activities and laundry service, all meals, refreshments, local spirits and wines, emergency medical evacuation insurance, national park fees and all government levies and taxes, airport transfers to/from scheduled/charter flights

Chobe Game Lodge | Chobe River Front

The only permanent game lodge situated within the famous Chobe National Park, Chobe Game Lodge is Botswana's premier venue for guests looking for a perfect base from which to explore the National Park and the Chobe River. The lodge has north African flavour with six comfortably furnished viewing decks, a riverside boma, two bars, six different lounges and four dining locations. The Lodge offers a choice of land or water-based activities and the most complete game experience in the Chobe National Park.
Early-morning and late-afternoon game drives are conducted by professional guides in open-sided 4x4 vehicles to ensure maximum visibility of Chobe National Park’s scenery and wildlife, while, riverside game viewing is done from small and highly manoeuvrable boats, perfect for morning or sunset cruises. [we don't recommend the large, booze cruise boats from the hotels in Kasane]
Chobe's diverse wildlife roams in abundance – it is home to the largest concentrations of elephant in Africa during the dry season. [June - November] These elephant herds, as well as vast herds of buffalo, congregate on the fertile flood plains along the Chobe River to drink, bathe and play. There are frequent sightings of lion, African wild dog, puku, red lechwe, sable, giraffe and roan antelope.
Conservation/Botswana Safari Company recommends Chobe Game Lodge as the premier lodge in the Chobe region, and the only lodge inside the national park. The dry season game viewing along the extensive floodplains is unique and spectacular. Having the boat station and boat viewing activities at your doorstep is a major advantage to appreciating the river environment. The lodge is large and more hotel like, the Moroccan styling isnt for everyone but it is best located to appreciate this park.

No Chobe safari is complete without experiencing the beauty of the Chobe River and its incredible wildlife by boat.
The riverboats are specifically designed to ensure each passenger can take in the magnificent Chobe views in complete comfort from anywhere on the boat. Owing to the flexibility in seating arrangements and the flat deck, the boats are ideal for keen wildlife photographers, with ample space for equipment and the freedom to photograph from any angle.
Unlike any other water-based activity in Botswana, the game viewing while on a river safari in Chobe is unsurpassed anywhere in Botswana. Elephants line the water’s edge, hippo congregate in lagoons, hundreds of antelope and giraffe make their way to the water and sightings of predators along the river banks are common.
All of the boats at Chobe Game Lodge are solar-electric powered boats – a clean and quiet way to enjoy a boat safari and another first for tourism in Africa.

Owing to the location of Chobe Game Lodge inside the Chobe National Park, early-morning game drives set off as soon as the park opens, giving you the best chance of tracking predators while they are still active. The afternoon drives depart the lodge in the late afternoon (the exact time is dependent on the season), only returning at park closure time after sunset, thus maximising the time you spend out in the park to enjoy those special sightings.
The drives follow the course of the Chobe River as your experienced guide interprets the bush signs and tracks in search of the resident wildlife. Elephant encounters are common and huge herds of buffalo abound. The ever-present impala and the majestic giraffe are both common residents, while sightings of the puku antelope are also on offer. Predators are plentiful in the northern region of the Chobe National Park, and excellent sightings of lion, wild dog and leopard are to be had.
The Chobe Game Lodge vehicles are open 4WD game viewers redesigned to make your trip comfortable and your viewing experience astonishing. Included in the fleet are several silent, CO2 emission-free electric vehicles designed to further enhance your Chobe safari.

Birding is spectacular with Schalows turaco, barred owlet and white-browed coucal resident in the gardens as well as rosythroated longclaw, western-banded snake-eagle and hooded vulture among a few of the 450 species of the Chobe region.
