Ilala Lodge Hotel | Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)

Ilala Lodge is an elegant, intimate and comfortable hotel on the edge of the Zambezi National Park a short safe walk from Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side.
Ilala Lodge is a charming hotel, just minutes from Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side adjoining the Zambezi National Park.
This privately owned and managed hotel guarantees the service is personal and the atmosphere intimate. All the rooms are air conditioned and have patio doors opening onto a balcony or large front lawn - mowed by a regular troupe of warthog and occasional visits from waterbuck, baboons, monkeys and even elephant from time to time. The Deluxe and Pool Wing assure a view of the distant spray of the Falls and the Garden Wing, a view onto the peacefully luxuriant gardens.
Good travel advice is to eat where the locals eat and they eat at Ilala's Palm Restaurant. With tables set under the stars on clear nights or in the high-thatched dining room, the food is unfussy and the atmosphere is relaxed. The croc-pie and ostrich steak are local delicacies worth trying.

Morning and afternoon guided walks are offered at The Hide Safari Camp.
The Hide Safari Camp is fortunate to have the best of both worlds. While located within the Hwange National Park, it is also surrounded by a private concession which allows us to offer activities not otherwise permitted. Hwange is a vast playground worth exploring so you don’t have to worry about being bored. Early morning walks are there for the thrill of encountering wildlife on its own terms and exploring the little surprises of the bush.

Morning and afternoon game drives as well as night drives with a spotlight are offered at The Hide Safari Camp.
Days can be spent further afield on game drives in search of predators and prey alike. We like to do things properly so sundowners are an important part of the experience. Enjoy the natural beauty with a cold drink in hand. The guides at The Hide are very much part of the family and have been with us for many years. They have undergone some of the most rigorous training in Africa and their passion for and knowledge of the bush is often what makes a safaris so special.

You’re sitting on the deck at The Hide ‘A’ frame. The sun has just set, its residual warmth a soft tinge of pink in the sky. Just then, a family of elephants strolls into the scene and up to the waterhole. You watch, fascinated by their interactions. Now, here’s where you jump into action. Without the need for a guide or host, you can go directly from the deck into the underground hide and observe the elephant family from up-close. Just step off the deck and slip down the steps into a whole new world. Along a tunnel, you’ll walk for about 10 metres under the surface of the earth – and then emerge into a “window on the waterhole”, where you can sit quietly, the unobserved observing. It’s a special addition and makes the experience of “game viewing” more intense and personal.
Along the same tunnel, guests are delighted to find, hidden away in the wall, a real wine cellar. Perfectly cooled at a steady 17 degrees Celsius, ambient-lit and stocked with a small selection of fine wines from around the world, this is a welcome addition to an already all-sensory experience at The Hide.

You won’t have to forego your hot shower and warm bed and the location is second to none.

Going on safari is an exciting prospect and, for many, when the dust has been wiped off your boots and the hat hung up till next time, there is no greater pleasure than poring over the special moments you’ve captured on camera.
A native Zimbabwean, Neil Fairlie is a professional wildlife documentary filmmaker with a profound knowledge and deep respect for Africa and its wildlife. His formal experience spans more than a decade, including the recent Netflix series Our Planet, but he is also qualified as a learner guide, and his intimate knowledge of the bush, natural instincts and skill in capturing unique moments of animal behaviour on film make him a brilliant photographic safari guide. The Hide's Restaurant
The hub of the camp is the signature “A” frame which houses the dining area. Most meals are served in unsurpassed elegance and style around our magnificent 22 seater teak dining room table or in a private setting out on the deck under the moonlight. We try to cater to our guests' needs wherever we can and our incredible in-house chefs are able to fulfill many dietary requirements.

Changa Safari Camp | Matusadona National Park

Insert creepy marketing voice here: torn between an island paradise and a magical safari experience? Worry no more, we have just the thing for you.
We are just fooling around here, but that option does exist, welcome to Changa Safari Camp. For the safari part, you will be staying in the Matusadona National Park, on the shore of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. This safari lodge has its own lakeshore for that isolated island feeling, 4.5km of beach to be exact. Not bad for a landlocked country.
Here you will be staying in either double tented suites or family tented suites, which are more spacious and quite frankly better than some hotel rooms that you might know. Each suite comes with double beds, a private deck, an en-suite and an outdoor bubble bath (that should make the cover of any travel magazine).
Every morning tea and coffee will be delivered to your tent and you will be invited to have an alfresco breakfast before you start your day.
If you want to take it easy Changa Safari Camp has a pool, lounging area and a bar all on the edge of the water. You can even request a picnic set up by the shore. For something a little less beach more safari you can go on game drives (where you will definitely see their famous elephants) or something a bit more toned down such as a wilderness walk. Fishing is also on the agenda if you really want to test out the waters and in the evening you can do sundowners on a boat trip to wrap it all up.
The tranquil feeling packaged with a bit of African flair makes this a hassle-free choice for couples and families who just want that middle ground of adventure and relaxation. Go wild and try to catch the famous tiger fish or let the others do it while you watch from the pool deck with a G&T, the choice is yours.

A leisurely drive in an open safari vehicle is a perfect way to discover the area, and provides an opportunity to see a wider variety of game and scenery as you cover much more ground than on a game walk. Accompanied by your guide, a game drive is a lovely way to spend the morning.

Arguably the best way to experience and feel in touch with the African bush. Our professional guides have a thorough knowledge of the area and, accompanied by them, you can experience Matusadona 'at its best'. Walks are conducted in the early mornings and late afternoons for your comfort.

Climb on board our pontoon boat and, together with our guide, you can explore the multitude of bays and river inlets where the birdlife is prolific and elephants and antelope abound.

Kariba is a fisherman’s paradise! Why not try your hand at fighting the renowned Tiger Fish for which people from all over the world return time and time again to catch. Alternatively bream fishing is always a pleasure and one's daily catch can be returned to you 'a la' snacks.

A short boat ride across the lake will bring you to the scenic Sanyati Gorge, where you can meander peacefully through the steep cliffs for up to 10 km. The Sanyati Gorge is both unspoilt and undisturbed with an abundance of birdlife, the occasional sighting of antelope and great fishing. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars for this activity as the dramatic landscape will leave you speechless.

Relax and enjoy one of Lake Kariba’s most popular activities and a favourite at Changa. If you are interested in birding, then our boat cruise is perfect for you as it will provide a different vantage point to get up close and personal to numerous species of birds. Whilst drifting along the banks of the lake, you will also encounter some great wildlife sightings in their peaceful surroundings.
What better way to end your day in Kariba, than listening to the sounds of hippo around you and witnessing an unforgettable sunset on the lake.

John's Camp | Mana Pools National Park

John’s Camp is a semi-permanent camp that offers you the chance to explore the beauty and prolific wildlife of the Mana Pools National Park on game drives and on foot.
From May to November every year, John’s Camp is the ideal spot to find yourself in the Mana Pools National Park. It would be great at other times of the year too, except that this camp is seasonal as it’s situated in a unique flood plain. It gets set up at the beginning of the safari season every year and that says loads about the experience you’ll have here. It’s authentic and special.
It’s a down-to-earth tented camp that’s easy on the eye, covers all the basics and then some and will certainly give you the adventure safari experience you’re after. This area is known for great wildlife sightings and it’s picturesque. It’d have to be or Mana Pools National Park wouldn’t have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. It stakes its claim as one of the most beautiful reserves in southern Africa and holds the title with high regard.
Home of the walking safari. That’s a must here. Go out with your guide. Explore the bush and the love letters of nature. Get up close with wildlife. It’s a real safari experience that’s exhilarating.
This may not be the camp for you if you’re looking for all the bells and whistles and certainly not the option for you if you’re not into an open-air bucket shower. However if you’re in it for the real deal safari adventure that combines a rudimentary safari camp with heart and the additional comforts such as pure cotton linens with big game safari right on your doorstep, then this remote and incredible special place on the northern border of Zimbabwe is for you.
There’s no WIFI out here it’s just you and the African bush. Bliss.
