Originally a private family retreat, Chitwa Chitwa earned its name as an affectionate ode to the aging giraffe bull who shared the lakeside home as an extended member of the Brink family. According to the owner, Charl Brink, the majestic arrival of this regal relative was always signaled by the creaking of his old joints - and still today, his watchful essence is felt presiding over the lodge. The private game lodge is magnificent and graceful in appearance, yet humble enough to evaporate into the surrounding beauty of the unspoiled bush of the Sabi Sand.

One of Chitwa Chitwa's most unique dining experiences is our custom-built Pizza Truck.
Designed and handcrafted by the owners, this one-of-a-kind mobile kitchen was created by transforming a retired safari vehicle into a fully functional wood-fired pizza truck. Blending creativity, craftsmanship, and the spirit of adventure, the Chitwa Pizza Truck is a signature experience that celebrates the lodge’s passion for creating memorable moments anywhere in the bush.
Dixie is a small village situated close to the Gowrie Gate entrance of the Sabi Sand. Through our close associations with our neighbours and our love of the area in general, we have cultivated a unique partnership with the Dixie community in order to contribute to their general upliftment. The Cultural Village Excursion, headed by a professional field guide affords the opportunity to slip unnoticed into a day in the life of the locals whilst tapping into the optimism and energy that is so much part of this little village’s charm. The transfer will be in a Chitwa Chitwa open vehicle and will take about two hours from the time of departure from the lodge.

Our Mission
Through the Chitwa Trust, we support Wisani Preschool as we believe that education and early childhood development are fundamental to creating opportunities for the next generation. The needs at Wisani are ongoing, which makes consistent, long-term support essential. While infrastructure and equipment provide an important foundation, continued investment in supplies, maintenance and day-to-day needs ensures that the benefits are sustained over time.
Our Impact
With the support of guest donations, we are currently revamping Wisani Preschool, including building new classrooms and bathrooms. These improvements will create a safer, more functional and welcoming environment for the children and teachers, with our ongoing support helping to provide essential food and educational resources.
Contribution to Conservation
Our Mission
Through our Guest Conservation Contribution (GCC), guests directly contribute to the protection of the Sabi Sand and its wildlife. A key focus is supporting rhino conservation and anti-poaching efforts, helping to safeguard these iconic animals for future generations.
Our Impact
The Sabi Sand achieved zero rhino poaching losses in 2024, with the reserve remaining rhino-poaching free for more than 500 days.
