The Old Bridge Backpackers | Maun

10 km out of Maun, the gateway to the Okavango, overlooking the hippo pool is The Old Bridge Backpackers. This venue is a “Backpackers” in the sense that it has been created with an understanding of people who choose to travel independently rather than pre-booking package tours. The Bridge provides a comfortable base from which you can enjoy the varied amazing sites and activities that this region has to offer. We have a limited number of campsites for travelers with their own tents, a few of which are drive in sites. There is one site for larger groups. We have 10 furnished tents made up as either doubles or twins. Our 5 riverside tents have en-suite facilities. The 5 tents without en-suite facilities are set back from the riverside.

We have recently taken over management of the nearby “Maun Rest Camp” in order to expand our campsite capability. Through this development we are now able to offer ample campsites and drive in sites along the river. “Maun Rest Camp” does not have a bar or restaurant but guests staying there who wish to have use of such facilities may use a free motor boat ferry service to cross the river. Details can be found at Maun Restcamp. Our kitchen opens at 7 in the morning and closes at 8:30 at night and serves good value meals for all tastes. For those who prefer to self-cater there is a convenient and fully equipped kitchen, lounge. We have a popular and sometimes festive bar set between old, weathered lead-wood logs. Evenings are dimly lit with good music floating through the air (the bar closes at 10pm). You will always find a fire on a cold winters night and a cosy TV lounge that may be used on request.

Situated between the main building and the campsites you find open air hot showers and flush toilets built entirely out of natural materials. They are always kept spotlessly clean. Our friendly staff, who we consider to be our biggest asset, will ensure that you have nothing but fond memories to take home with you. We run a variety of activities that one can do in Maun, and run Safaris to all the Wildlife Parks in the area. We are also happy to give good advice to those of you with your own transport.
