Created to allow an in-depth approach to the Hadza culture, our Ombako fly camp takes you further into Hadza territory.
These trips venture into the beautiful wilderness areas in which the Hadza live, hunt, and gather, as they’ve been doing for millennia, along with their neighbors, the intriguing Datoga people, fiercely traditional pastoralists that roam the region with cattle herds. More than an adventure in the wilderness, Ombako offers you a real journey back in time, in the very cradle of mankind.
The light tents only have a mosquito net, so you can enjoy the starry vault of the night sky and the sounds of nightlife. Your well-being has not been neglected, however, with a quality mattress, down pillows and duvets wrapped in soft sheets.

Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp is situated on the north eastern shores of Lake Eyasi at an altitude of 3,400 feet (1,040M), with sweeping views toward the Rift. Across this seasonal soda lake, the Alipi escarpment wall rises 2,000 feet up into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area providing a stunning backdrop. The camp is beautifully set in a date palm and acacia forest and is part of 200-acre family-owned farm with a natural spring nearby which feeds into the lake. It is also home to the Wahadzabe, an ancient, nomadic tribe of bushmen who are one of the last click-speaking hunter-gatherer tribes. Sitting in a small forest of acacias on the edge of a spring, the camp is designed to blend in with the natural environment. Constructed almost entirely with palms and trees from the family's property, each of Kisima Ngeda's eight tents are built on a permanent wooden platform with a palm thatched roof, a hand carved bed, and an enclosed bathroom and shower with hot water, the tents are carefully created to be low-impact, spacious, and totally comfortable, each has a stunning view of the lake. A melting pot of culture, Kisima Ngeda offers a different experience from what you’ll find on a traditional safari. Here, you can actually get out of the car - you can explore the trails around the lake, canoe along the shore, mountain bike by baobabs and acacias, walk through nearby tribal villages, or just sit and enjoy the beautiful lake views (especially at sunset on top of the rock). While it’s possible to see some wildlife, what makes Kisima Ngeda truly special is the opportunity to visit with the local tribes. The waDatoga are a pastoral group like the Maasai, and its interesting to visit their local blacksmith or a Datoga boma. It is also home to the Wahadzabe, an ancient, nomadic tribe of bushmen who are one of the last click-speaking hunter-gatherer tribes. About 4 hours driving time from Arusha, the camp is 2 hours away from the Ngorongoro Crater and about a half day’s drive to the Serengeti

Fly camping is an overnight experience that places you in the wilderness with a light camp. It allows us to be immersed in the sounds of the African savannah at night and to appreciate these big African skies. The campfire is the focal point of the fly camp, where we eat our meals, socialize and engage in fun discussions. This experience will take us deep into the Serengeti for a night or two, allowing us to engage with African wilderness at a participatory level rather than an observatory level.
A lightfoot camp does not mean a lack of comfort. We sleep on quality mattresses, each topped with memory foam. And we drift asleep comfortably hugged by down pillows and duvets wrapped in soft linens. Dining is generous and wholesome and served with a cold beer or a glass of wine.

The camp features eight tented mini-suites nestled within a grove of acacias, overlooking expansive views of the Ngare Nayuki river valley and the plains beyond. Each tented suite has a cosy lounge area with comfortable sofas and a coffee table, a king-sized bed with bedside tables and lamps, a writing desk, a full-length wall mirror, and soft carpets over wooden floors. The suite extends into an en suite bathroom with a shower, double sinks, and a flushing toilet. The camp is open, without barriers or fences, allowing wildlife to move freely.
