Nkwali Camp | South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa National Park is one of Africa's last truly wild places—a vast, remote wilderness where remarkable wildlife and local communities have coexisted for generations. Renowned for its exceptional game viewing, the Luangwa Valley is home to an extraordinary diversity of species and unforgettable safari experiences.
Set on the banks of the Luangwa River on a sweeping bend overlooking the National Park, Nkwali enjoys a spectacular location where elephants, hippos and even leopards are regularly seen from camp. Situated on Robin Pope Safaris' private land, guests enjoy exclusive access to a private game viewing area, as well as seamless entry into the park by boat or via the seasonal pontoon.
The six spacious thatched chalets combine classic safari style with understated comfort, featuring airy interiors, open-air en-suite bathrooms and private verandas with beautiful views across the Luangwa River.
With warm hospitality, exceptional guiding and an authentic safari atmosphere, Nkwali offers a timeless South Luangwa experience in one of Africa's most celebrated wilderness destinations.

Robin Pope Walking Mobile Safaris | South Luangwa National Park
The Robin Pope Safaris’ Mobile Walking Safaris have long been known as the best wilderness experience of the South Luangwa. After a night at Nkwali, the party drives to the north of the park where they will walk for five days covering approximately 10km a day, following the Mupamadzi River. This clear river is a major tributary of the Luangwa.
The area is remote and wild, the terrain and habitats varied and the game shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird's nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The fully serviced mobile camp is extremely comfortable and well-equipped with walk-in tents and full bedding. The shower is under a tree and the toilet is a bush loo with a wooden throne. Meals of a high standard are served under the open sky. A final night at Tena Tena or Nsefu completes the safari.

Nsefu Camp | South Luangwa National Park
Nestled within the exclusive Nsefu Sector, overlooking one of the Luangwa River's most beautiful bends where elephants regularly wade across the water, Nsefu Camp is the birthplace of Zambia's photographic safari. Built in 1951, it remains one of Africa's most historic safari camps, lovingly preserving its original character while offering the comforts expected by today's traveller.
The Nsefu Sector itself has a remarkable conservation legacy. Proclaimed a Game Reserve in 1966 - five years before South Luangwa National Park was officially gazetted - it has long been celebrated as one of the finest wildlife areas in Africa, renowned for exceptional game viewing, diverse habitats and prolific predator sightings. Robin Pope Safaris took over the camp in 1998, carefully restoring and upgrading it while retaining the timeless charm that makes Nsefu so unique.
Today, Nsefu welcomes just twelve guests in six spacious brick-and-thatch rondavels, each with en-suite facilities and uninterrupted views across the Luangwa River. From the privacy of your veranda, it is not uncommon to watch elephants crossing the river, hippos wallowing below and an ever-changing procession of wildlife passing by—arguably one of the most iconic views in South Luangwa.

Standard room
The camp welcomes just twelve guests in six original brick and thatch rondavels with en-suite facilities, each room opening up to what can simply be described as the best view in the South Luangwa.
The six original rondavels have been upgraded to include spacious en-suite bathrooms however we have tried very hard to keep the feel and fittings in the room in line with the original “old fashioned” feel. Nothing can sum it up better than a guest’s comment of “understated elegance”. Each room has a clear view of the river whether it be from the comfort of your bed or the chairs out on the verandah.
