Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp | Ngorongoro Crater
2 Mar 2025 - 4 Mar 2025
Lemala Ngorongoro is intimately set in a delightful ancient acacia forest close to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. As it is located next to the quiet Lemala crater access road on the eastern side, a key advantage of staying at Lemala Ngorongoro is the quick and easy drive down on to the crater floor in the morning; Lemala guests usually have an hour’s head start over others descending via the far busier Seneto crater access road on the western rim. And of course can stay later in the afternoon before returning to camp. As Africa’s game is most active in the early morning and late afternoon this means better wildlife experiences for Lemala guests.
Game drives from camp may start as early as 6.15am and guests can be down among Ngorongoro’s abundant wildlife on the floor within 10-15 minutes – crucial for photographers who demand the best light conditions. Escorted walks are also available into the forest and along the crater rim with an armed ranger and Maasai guide.

Enjoy a full day game drive on the crater floor. Considered an 8th wonder, here you will find a wide range of wildlife, including the elusive rhino. Our vehicles have charging facilities and a fridge with cold drinks. Our vehicles are driven by excellent guides who will ensure you see the best of what Ngorongoro has to offer. All vehicles on the crater floor are closed vehicles with pop up roofs.
No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional bush lunch. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, whilst your personal butler serves up a feast. Nothing is quite so essentially safari as this. Tailored service with cold drinks and your private chef preparing delicious meals surrounded by breath-taking surroundings in total privacy totally completes this Out of Africa experience. After enjoying your morning game drive, your guide will bring you to your private location within the Ngorongoro Crater where our team awaits to seat you.
Sundowners are more than just a happy hour. They are a very cherished African tradition and form an integral part of your safari experience. It is a time to relax, reminisce the day gone by, enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine around the camp fire with fellow travellers, and watch as the sun goes down over the Serengeti plains.
We believe that a visit to a Masai Boma should be an authentic cultural and educational experience based on mutual respect. Over the years we have built a close relationship with Chief Lubolo, a young visionary leader with a strong passion for education. He invites our guests to one of his bomas offering a memorable opportunity to interactively experience the Maasai way of life. During the excursion through the traditional boma guests will participate in various unique cultural activities, have the opportunity to sit and talk with Chief Lubolo and are encouraged to delve as deep into the experience as possible! There will also be a possibility to buy traditional beaded jewelry handmade by the women in the boma. A rare and authentic glimpse into the distinctive Maasai culture.
A walk in the highlands is a sensory adventure like no other. Tanzania is one of the best safari countries for walking, with a number of parks allowing guests to experience a more up-close-and-personal encounter. Follow in the footsteps of animals, accompanied by highly skilled and knowledgeable guides. Along the way you might identify animal tracks, learn about fascinating plants, spot some of the smaller animals and insects (you wouldn’t necessarily see from a vehicle) as well as feel the buzz of tracking some of the larger game. There is no better way to learn about the bush.
Tanzania has great appeal for families. Seeing animals is very exciting for children, and nothing can prepare a parent for the delight of watching their child’s reaction when they catch sight of a lion, giraffe or elephant for the very first time. Lemala Cubs offers our special guests under the age of 12, a range of wonderful opportunities to experience and enjoy the magic of the African bush. These activities are fun, educational and interesting, showing future generations the need for conservation of Africa’s wildlife, and keep kids well entertained while mum and dad relax.
his is a truly authentic and unique way to get a glimpse of the way of life in Tanzania. You will meet Sunday, a local hero to many, who has a great story to tell. You will be guided throughout, enjoying a cultural experience in the village of Mto wa Mbu on the border of Lake Manyara National Park, and home to banana plantations growing tens of varieties - including the sweetest red bananas! You will spend a few hours exploring the villages using the favoured mode of transport in the area - local tuk tuks - designed to give you a birds eye view as you meander around the narrow streets. You will see the rice fields and learn how it plays such a vital part in the food of Tanzanians, meet the Makonde carvers, watch the colourful Tinga Tinga painters - and try your hand yourself, visit a local primary school which we support, and before finishing up with a scrumptious Tanzanian lunch in the shade of the famous banana trees.
Ngorongoro Main Dining Area
Our spacious dining tent allows guests to enjoy their meals whilst enjoying views of the Acacia Forest stretched out infront of them. Meals are communal allowing everyone to catch up on the days experiences, meet new friends, share experiences all whilst being attended to by our dedicated team. Meals are varied to suit all tastes but if you have any dietary requirements let the camp know and the chefs will whip up some specials.

Wilderness Usawa Serengeti | Serengeti National Park
4 Mar 2025 - 7 Mar 2025
In northern Tanzania, Africa’s greatest spectacle unfolds. Two million wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and other migratory animals graze, breed, and birth on the Serengeti’s plains; following the rains, moving as one. Prides of lion split the herds, taking down wildebeest and zebra. Cheetah chase down and tire out gazelles while crocodiles prey on the brave; those who dare to cross the rivers first. This scale of wildlife, of predator-prey interaction is found nowhere else on Earth.
Far from the crowds, close to the action, mobile camps will traverse the length and breadth of the Serengeti, moving with the herds as they follow the rain. And like the herds, we adapt. The flexibility of Wilderness Usawa allows us to move at short notice. With various sites available, guests at Wilderness Usawa Serengeti will be positioned as close to the action as possible, in luxurious safari tents that leave no impact on the plains.
INSIDER’S TIP: Pack your walking shoes. All Wilderness Usawa Serengeti sites are positioned within designated walking zones, allowing walking safaris to begin right from camp.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti tailors game drives to suit the guest. Peaceful early-morning or afternoon drives during golden light for best photography opportunities, or all-day excursions with a packed picnic lunch for those who don’t want to miss a thing.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti camps have a privileged position within designated walking areas of the Serengeti. This means walks can begin right from camp, under the supervision of experienced Wilderness guides.
Beyond the magnificent volume of game, the Serengeti is home to an impressive variety of birds.
While sitting around the campfire, appreciate the vastness and clarity of the Serengeti night sky.
Take to the skies in style and soar over the rich ecosystem of the Serengeti in a hot air balloon. Gaze over the 'endless plains' and their scenic splendour, marvelling at the unfolding drama of the ever-moving mega-herds. Champagne and snacks are served at the end of the flight.
* This activity is weather permitting and at extra cost.
Meaning ‘balance’ in Swahili, Usawa offers the perfect balance between the action and drama of the migration, and exclusivity, with the camps set up in the quieter, more remote areas of the park. Guests are completely immersed in the unfiltered nature experience, whether witnessing herds of migrating wildebeest or enjoying a quiet bush picnic and sundowners afterwards.
Though the camp moves several times throughout the year, Wilderness Usawa Serengeti is intimate, with no comfort or luxury overlooked, and the set-up is complete with high-end touches and exceptional service.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti is a sustainable operation: solar-powered, locally sourced and built with an impressively light footprint that does not compromise the precious Serengeti environment.
The camp will be configured in whichever way is best for the environment, with a central dining area and social fire pit, and the rooms extending out on either side of that.
At any given time, mobile camps are set up as close to the herds as possible.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti moves with the herd as the animals travel throughout the year across the length and breadth of the national park, with camps set up in various key locations on the migration route. The camps comprise beautiful open-plan tents with view-facing beds, offering an intimate, authentic tented camp, and the thrill of an immersive tented experience with all comforts and luxury that Wilderness guests are accustomed to.
The in-tent experience draws on the out-of-camp environment: the golden grasses of the savannah. With 360° mesh-sided surrounds, guests are immersed in the wild landscape. With luxurious linens, view-facing beds and an en-suite bathroom, the camp celebrates the best of a tented experience with all the luxurious touches Wilderness guests are accustomed to.
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti offers a spacious, open-plan, family unit with view-facing beds to cater for adventurous families travelling to Tanzania. As Wilderness’ first luxury mobile tented camp operation following Serengeti National Park’s legendary Great Migration, Usawa offers the thrill of an immersive luxury tented experience in pristine wilderness settings. The perfect balance between adventure and exclusivity.
The family offering doubles the space available to families by offering two luxurious tents joined together with an external passage between them, making one family unit. This creates an open yet protected space to enjoy together with the comfort of family members nearby.
Usawa’s family unit can accommodate up to three children (a maximum of five people). Wilderness’ expert Tanzanian team has years of experience hosting family safaris in the region, and will offer numerous exciting adventures for children from 06 years of age, as well as delicious child-friendly meals.
* Wilderness Usawa Serengeti can only be booked on a sole use basis in order to accept children younger than 06 years.

Governors’ Camp Collection properties combine the best locations in the Masai Mara with the best-designed vehicles and exceptionally highly trained and experienced guides to give our clients un-matched game-viewing and photographic opportunities in the world’s prime wildlife area.
Little Governors' Camp is located in the Mara Triangle and guests have the option of game drives in either the Masai Mara Game Reserve or in the Mara Triangle. We offer up to three game drives per full day on safari.
Our driver-guides have an un-paralleled knowledge of the reserve combined with a deep understanding and respect for the importance of this wilderness area, its flora and its fauna.
Game drives are included in the accommodation rate.
For those looking for an adventure of a different kind, we suggest a magical hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara.
The adventure begins just before dawn. Departure is from a launch site just 15 minutes drive away. Guests assemble at the launch site for a briefing as the flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. As the dawn breaks, the hot air balloon fills and then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective.
What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness – the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Masai Mara.
After about an hour or so, your balloon safari finishes with a flourish. In the time-honoured tradition of balloon flights the world over, toast your return to earth with sparkling wine and enjoy a delicious breakfast that is set up and served at a very special spot. The experience ends with a game drive back to your camp.
There is an extra cost for a hot air balloon safari and the price depends on the time of year.
For a very unique experience, enjoy the excitement of a bush dinner in the wild.
You will arrive at a special secluded location on the banks of the Mara river. A welcoming drink awaits by the warming campfire, followed by a delicious meal prepared by our Bush chefs, served under the stars, with the soft lights of safari lanterns and accompanied by the sounds of the African night and the grunting Mara river hippos.
Bush breakfasts and bush lunches are also available. Please try to book bush meals in advance. Costs: bush breakfasts and lunches USD $75 per person, bush dinners USD $92 per person
The Masai people of East Africa are a striking image, synonymous with safari. A proud people with many traditional practices still very much alive in their culture. Visit a local Masai village and learn about who they are in their own words.
Entry to the Maasai village is currently USD $40 per person and is paid directly to the community.
Visits to our responsible tourism projects can be organised from camp. Mara Rianda Primary School and Mara Rianda Medical Centre are two inspirational projects supported by Governors’ Camps.
There is no extra charge for this activity but donations to any of the projects are welcome.
Since the beginning of the 20th Century the cheetah population has fallen dramatically from 100'000 individuals to 7'500 individuals with human activity a major cause. It is therefore important to understand the cheetah-human interface, which is one of the key works of the Mara-Meru Cheetah Project, led by Dr. Elena Chelyseva.
Our Governors' Guides play a critical role in the data collection for Dr. Elena and her team, reporting through sightings and behaviour observations of cheetah spotted. Dr Elena enjoys sharing her expertise on the cheetahs in the area with our guests through talks or by accompanying guests game drives.
Please let us know if you would like to pre-book a talk or a guided game drive with Elena when booking your safari. There is a minimum donation requirement of USD $500 for a presentation in camp.
Governors’ hosts a wildlife photographer in the Mara who is available to be booked by our guests for accompanied photo safaris and in-depth tutorials on all elements of photography, including editing. Do let us know if you would like to guarantee a full day with them capturing the very best of this incredible wildlife reserve. Please note that guests will need to secure an exclusive use vehicle at a daily rate, on top of the photographer's daily fee.
Governors' also has 3 'photo safari' vehicles. Listening to the specific needs and recommendations of the photographers we've hosted over the years, we've modified three Landrover vehicles to include same level seating throughout, cut-out side panels in the middle row to get those much desired low angle shots, high roofs, fully folding windscreens and wide side panelling to offer the perfect place for resting a beanbag and long lens. The cars are available on an exclusive use basis and can be requested for and reserved while making your Governors' booking. They are available at all our camps in the Masai Mara.
Please see https://www.governorscamp.com/travel-planning/resident-photographers/ for full details and costs.
After your late afternoon game drive, end the day with a 'sundowner' at our very special spot on the banks of the Mara River. Our team will have set up a traditional 'safari bar' ahead of your arrival. Sundowners are included in the nightly rate but premium drinks are extra.
