Namibia Helicopter Adventure

This luxurious tented camp is far away from it all, on a ridge above the Kunene River in northwest Namibia. The desert landscape stretches out to meet mystical peaks along the horizon.

The serene desert stillness is captivating. Often, the only sound you’ll hear in camp is the soothing ripple of the rapids below. Encounter this amazing ecosphere through walking safaris, scenic drives and river cruises.

The camp suits its surroundings, from the natural colours and materials to the solar panels and traditional lighting. The camp is intimate, with just five tents, each with its own covered deck and amazing river views. Choose king or twin beds. Rooms have an indoor shower plus an outdoor shower with panoramic views. There is also a private family tent, with a spacious king bedroom and a twin room, and decking area.

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is situated in the Purros Conservancy in Kaokoland, one of the last truly wild areas in the North West of Namibia and it features beautiful mountain landscapes and rugged tranquillity. Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, tracking the renowned desert adapted elephants, walks and visits to the local Himba village.

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is located in the Purros Conservancy, 55km from the skeleton coast and around 200km south of the Kunene River in the north of Namibia. Often described as one of the last true wilderness areas, the Kaokoveld is home to the nomadic Himba tribe as well as uniquely desert adapted Elephant, lion, black rhino and giraffe.

The lodge, in the Purros Conservancy area, is a no risk malaria destination and can be reached by 4x4 vehicles. Alternatively a 2 ½ hour flight from Windhoek in a small aircraft will take you to our landing strip, which is located approximately 5 minutes from the lodge.

Activities:

Explore the true untouched wilderness area of the Purros Valley in an open safari vehicle and discover the area’s bountiful surprises in terms of wildlife. Game drives take you through lushly vegetated riverbeds and scraggy mountains, home to a versatile and adapted flora and fauna.

You might catch sight of the rare desert adapted Elephants and lions as well as various antelopes, giraffes and even black rhino. Activities include nature drives in the mornings and afternoons, night drives, morning walks and visits to the local Himba village. Sundown cocktails and special breakfasts in the most spectacular settings can also be organized.

Accommodation:

With seven luxury terracotta double chalet and one presidential suite Okahirongo Elephant Lodge can offer a highly sophisticated desert experience for up to 18 guests. Possibly one of the most remote lodges in Namibia.

THE TERRACOTTA DOUBLE CHALET is a luxury 70 square meters cottage with en-suite large bathroom featuring bathtub overlooking the magnificent surroundings, two basins, a choice of indoor and open air shower and a spacious private gazebo with a sun bed. King-size bed and decorations in a rich and sensuous fusion of ochre, honey and sand colours complete a unique atmosphere that will let immerse yourself in absolute silence and complete privacy.

THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE: a private villa featuring 2 luxury bedrooms, each one with its own vast bathroom, bathtubs and both internal and open air shower, for those who like absolute privacy. An extended lounge area with external veranda and two gazebos, day beds and cushions for daydreaming or star watching. The décor is a rich combination of earthy tones, dark African wood and unrefined natural surfaces - textures reminiscent of the ragged edges found in the landscape. Ethnic and local sculptured furnishing bring the excitement and romance of Africa to life.

Buildings are cleverly positioned to make the most of the grand views over the rugged Purros valley – blessed with its lush green river bed and purple mountains in the distance.

Designed for desert wanderers, Wilderness Desert Rhino Camp offers an original, exclusive wilderness experience and the opportunity to see free-ranging desert-adapted black rhino. The desert plains are starkly scenic, and home to other unique species, from Hartmann’s zebra and giraffe, to the bizarre welwitschia plant.

Designed with the desert in mind, the palette, textures and wildlife of Damaraland’s extraordinary vistas are brought into the suite interiors.

With natural stone found on site reinforcing the camp’s connection to nature, Desert Rhino Camp evokes a real sense of place in this stark desert landscape.

Six suites with deep overhanging stretch fabric roof structures, interior tones of terracotta, sage, fern green and cream, and classic details of timber and leather, create a sheltered sanctuary within this breath-taking desert landscape.

Run in conjunction with Save the Rhino Trust Namibia, Wilderness Desert Rhino Camp offers rhino tracking by vehicle and on foot with experts from this conservation NGO.

Situated in the town centre, a mere five-minute walk from the beach and main shopping area, Swakopmund Guesthouse is owned and run by the Borg family. We provide excellent ambiance and service for guests wanting to indulge in a comfortable stay-over close to the ocean. The guesthouse offers five standard rooms, six luxury rooms, and three suites. As the name implies, Boulders Camp has been thoughtfully positioned within the vicinity of a colossal granite rock formation in the NamibRand plains. This intimate camp is situated a three-hour drive to the south of our other camps and is as remote as it gets.

At Boulders Camp, you'll have the opportunity to explore the southern reaches of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. The offerings include guided scenic drives, moments of profound solitude, extended two to three-hour walking safaris across the ancient hunting grounds of the Bushmen, and the option for eBiking on fat bikes.

Please note that a minimum stay of three nights is required at Boulders Camp to allow our team to craft a truly enchanting experience. Fixed arrival dates are available every Monday, Thursday, Friday, or Sunday each week. This format ensures that a stay at Boulders Camp is a genuinely immersive and contemplative desert adventure.
