Jetwing Lake | Dambulla

Jetwing Lake nimbly combines contemporary architecture with the solitude of the Siyambalaweva banks, and its placid ambiance. Sprawled on an expansive area of 18 acres, the Hotel is a languid retreat with easy access to Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle and its curiosities. Wildlife Safaris to the Minneriya and Wasgamuwa National Parks, treks and hikes through its richly bio-diverse environment, quiet times of bird watching, and exploration of the Dambulla cave temple are a few other interests to pursue there. Besides an internationally inspired menu, and an in-house Chinese Restaurant, for those preferring an experience of a true Sri Lanka flavour, Jetwing Lake also specializes in authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, prepared from fresh produce grown locally in the area.

98 Acres Resort & Spa | Ella

The 98 Acres Resort is a boutique hotel in Ella set amidst tea covered hills with magnificent views of the southern plains, Ella rock and Little Adam’s Peak. Ella is situated in the southern highlands and can be accessed by train or by car. This ecofriendly resort, opened in 2012, is contemporary in design with the use of granite, polished cement floors, columns made of eucalyptus trees, and roofs of bamboo and Illuk straw – giving it a minimalist feel. Sustainable construction methods haven been used with minimal impact on the surrounding environment. Discarded railway sleepers are used for walls, paving and even furniture. Accommodation at the 98 Acre Resort is in individual stone chalets and the lounge and restaurant is in an open sided pavilion on a hill with breathtaking views. As the name suggests, the Resort spreads across a 98 acre, privately owned tea plantation surrounded by mountains and spectacular views of the southern plains. On a clear day, views extend all the way to the southern lakes in Uda Walawe and Tissamaharama. A 10 acre patch of untouched wilderness within the tea estate attracts many species of hill country birds and is ideal for trekking and nature trails.

Buckingham Place | Tangalle

Situated just outside of Tangalle, set back from the Rekawa beach & overlooking the lagoon, this 11 room stylish contemporary boutique hotel opened in late 2010. The 5 bedrooms and 6 suites all offer fantastic space (80 square meters), luxury bathrooms and have balconies or garden access with a view to the lagoon. The hotel has its own swimming pool and there is quiet rock-pool a short walk along the beach, which is reached down a 70 metre footpath. The hotel’s restaurant combines excellent fusion cooking with authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. In our opinion this hotel, run by Nick Buckingham an Englishman who has followed his dream and today calls Sri Lanka his home, offers outstanding value for money. Whilst guests can make local excursions, this is a perfect sanctuary offering excellent accommodation, great food and a perfect place to relax and indulge in the deep south of the island.
