When scanning the extensive 5 Star Alphen Boutique Hotel archives one realises the important role these 11.5 acres have played across centuries of wars, archaeological discoveries, hidden genders, floods and feuds.

For the past 300 years royalty and captains of industry have graced this wonderland nestled in the timeless Constantia valley. From the likes of Cecil John Rhodes & Lord Charles Somerset, to Mark Twain and Captain Cook, The Alphen wonderland has always been a serious purveyor of 5 star hospitality in Cape Town and Constantia.

Preceding these golden years as host to the famous and infamous, the Alphen Boutique Hotel was at once a wine estate and at other times a working farm, and still proudly boasts one of the oldest mills in the Western Cape. Her many transformations over the years have been as fascinating and unique as some particularly eccentric guests, most notable of which was Dr. Barry, who it was discovered on his deathbed, had masqueraded her entire life as a man.

It would seem to us that we have been charged with reviving centuries of quirk and legend. Tasked with ensuring the Alphen log-fire stories under her new charge, The Kove Collection, create a generation of new tales of indulgence and decadence for future adventure seekers and treasure hunters looking to play their own part in the history of the future of The Alphen 5 star boutique hotel in Constantia, Cape Town.

The Great Heart Wines Boutique recalibrates the notion of an ‘intimate’ and ‘personalized’ wine tasting with availability for a table that sits four guests at a time for Le Quartier Français and Leeu House guests only. Non-resident guests are welcome to enjoy the tasting option by making a booking at Protégé (right across from the Boutique). These wines can also be purchased at the Boutique.

Great Heart is the staff empowerment project of Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, known for their multi-award winning Leeu Passant and Mullineux wineries. Aimed at improving the livelihoods of those who work for the company as well as their families, the Great Heart wine brand is collectively owned by the winery staff, and a portion of all sales under this label go directly to them.

Set among the vineyards, Leeu Spa by Healing Earth is an immersive wellness sanctuary that offers holistic treatments and experiences by expert therapists. The tailor-made offerings are inspired by Africa’s rich natural resources, with a unique focus on the myriad therapeutic benefits of South Africa’s unique Pinotage grape. Pure and premium natural products from leading holistic wellness brand Healing Earth are used in the memorable treatments.

A range of treatments for children (aged six to 12) is also on offer.

Leeu Spa is situated at Leeu Estates, a 3km drive from Le Quartier Français. Scheduled transfers between our properties is available.

Leeu Collection guests are invited to take advantage of fine Franschhoek weather and the beautiful surroundings at Leeu Estates to indulge in a picnic basket filled with delicious treats. Enjoy the sweeping views of valley and mountains with a glass of fine wine in hand, and a perfect al fresco repast. Think local cheeses and charcuterie with house-made Estates preserves, fresh fruit and crackers etc.. All this and more will create lasting memories to take home.

The Wine Studio offers a truly immersive wine experience. Housed on Leeu Estates, it is run by the Mullineux & Leeu team, whose knowledgeable tasting room staff will guide guests in the finer nuances of these handcrafted wines.

A complimentary Signature Tasting is offered to Leeu Estates guests only. Guests at Leeu House and Le Quartier Français are welcome to book a wine tasting experience at the Wine Studio during their stay. Scheduled transfers between our properties is available.

Indaba – The Meeting Place at Leeu Estates is a state-of-the-art multipurpose event and meeting venue for inhouse Leeu Collection guests. Inspiring artworks enhance this multipurpose venue and private terrace, designed for a variety of functions: Press briefings, seminars, business meetings, exhibitions and launches.

Indaba, which is 140 square metres (1 510 square feet) in size and has its own lift, boasts wireless audio and video conferencing equipment, a 203-centimetre (80-inch) television screen and high-speed Wi-Fi.

LOCATION sets Mosaic apart from all others, with Walker Bay next door. From Lagoon Lodge, hop onto an open 4x4 vehicle and discover fynbos, birds and the pristine Walker Bay Beach and Nature Reserve and enjoy beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Canapes and beverages are enjoyed while watching for sights of fascinating marine life.

Between June and December, Southern Right Whales migrate from Antarctica to the shelter of Walker Bay to court, mate and calf. Whales can be viewed from the top of sand dunes while sipping a favorite drink. September through November is the height of whale season.

Guided quad-bike tours will take you exploring through fynbos clad hills, lagoon wetlands and spotting fantastic birds. Ride along the edge of the lagoon or up to high points on Mosaic with 360-degree views of the ocean, lagoon, and mountains. Mosaic's professional guides make the intricacies of creation come alive.

Board the "Lady Stanford" from the shores of Stanford on the Kleinr River for an excursion among water birds and the towering Overberg Mountains. Drinks and snacks are enjoyed while cruising.

Glide in a kayak on the lagoon to encounter the stunning blue cranes and water birds in the natural wetland at Mosaic, which is a proclaimed bird sanctuary. Or kayak to the mouth of the lagoon to the beautiful white sand of Grotto Beach.

We exclusively use high quality, natural spa products from African origins. The Cape Floral Kingdom is a true wonder of the world, having the richest density of plant species on earth · 8,600 with almost 6,000 occurring nowhere else on earth. Fynbos, Afrikaans for “fine bush”, is the unique type of vegetation that formed millions of years ago from ashes of drought-stressed forests. You will be guided along the lagoon edge and wetlands to discover intricate plant-animal relationships and the importance of conserving this unique floral kingdom.

Whether bird watching from a private deck or on a guided walk or quad bike trip, the birds at Mosaic delight enthusiasts. Over 140 bird species are home to Mosaic. Water birds along the shoreline are as numerous as the species that are found on fynbos covered limestone ridges. Blue cranes nest in the bird sanctuary at Lagoon Lodge, flamingos traverse the lagoon is mass, pied kingfishers can be watched hunting for food and owls are spotted day and night. Just down the coast from Mosaic lies one of the most important archeological heritage sites in the Western Cape, Klipgat Cave. This cave system was formed millions of years ago and it is believed was occupied by humans up to 70,000 years ago. The KhoiKhoi people occupied this cave system and lived on shellfish and animals in the area at that time. The cave can be toured and an 8 km beach walk can be enjoyed along with sundowners on the beach and 4x4 trip back to Mosaic.

Between June and December, Southern Right Whales migrate from Antarctica to the southern tip of Africa to court, mate and calf. Walker Bay is the best place in the world to view these enormous mammals. This trip takes you by boat in search of the Marine Big 5: Whales, Great White Shark, African penguin, Cape Fur Seal, and dolphin.

Learn about the circle of marine life on this boat trip, that takes you to Shark Alley, between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, home to 60,000 Cape Fur Seals. Great Whites are viewed from the boat and in a secure cage just under the surface of the water. The experience of being eye-to-eye with these large creatures is simply thrilling!

Flying over Walker Bay gives you one of the world’s most spectacular views of mountains, white sand beaches, dunes and marine life. From the air, you can comprehend the massive size of the Southern Right Whales and hopefully catch a glimpse of a calf learning to lob-tail or breach. Awesome scenic flights are available through out the year.

Two safaris per day - morning and afternoon/evening - 3 hours each with a morning and afternoon coffee/sundowner stop.

A walking safari with your rangers is optional and takes place after breakfast, with your ranger.

We offer a Community Tour, available to Sabi Sabi guests after breakfast each day. This is to be pre-booked at an additional charge, and these funds are invested back into the community.

The tour focuses on an authentic experience, and you will have the chance to view life from the perspective of our staff, as the majority of our staff are from the local communities of Lillydale, Justicia and Huntington.

We offer two full spas at the Amani Spas at Earth Lodge and Bush Lodge, however, guests from Little Bush Camp and Selati Camp are welcome to utilise these facilities. We can, on request, also offer in-suite massage treatments.
