The Luxury Plus room occupies the end of the southwestern wing of the property. Striking neoclassical columns rise around the room, topped with ornate stuccowork, which interrupts the floral Art Nouveau frieze that runs around the cornicing.

The Junior Suite is one of the largest and most special rooms in the mansion. This room used to be the “tea room” of the Gangotena family, where the family’s women and friends would gather. Situated on the first floor, the spacious Junior Suite features an original, 360-degree restored mural depicting a hunting scene. The Junior Suite overlooks the garden and the Panecillo hillside.

Located on the first floor, at the end of the southwestern wing of the property, the Balcony Junior Suite is undeniably romantic. The room has its own balcony that overlooks the garden and offers picturesque views of the Virgin of Quito atop her hill. Neoclassical stucco columns adorn the room. The delightful bathroom features two large windows that draw in the Andean light, while beautiful columns and black-and-white veined marble complete the picture.

Dining Experiences at Casa Gangotena

Inspired by the biodiversity of Ecuador’s ingredients and developed together with our trusted suppliers and farmers, we have created our very own signature cuisine: cocina mestiza. Based on ongoing research into flavors, scents, textures, and ancestral cooking techniques, it’s our tribute to Ecuadorian traditional food. We have adapted our restaurant’s service to ensure the highest safety standards and peace of mind for all.

A den for sophisticated travelers, our bar invites you to relax amid its leather chairs, comfortable banquettes, wood paneling and oil paintings: the ideal spot to indulge in an Old Fashioned or one of the sophisticated specialty cocktails prepared by our bar staff.

We breathed new life into the classic Quiteño equivalent to British “High Tea,” served at the tables or sofas of our orchid- and flower-filled patio. We offer a selection of premium Ecuadorian coffees, infusions made with herbs and flowers (some of which are fresh from the garden), as well as exquisite pastries and sandwiches.

What would the weekend be without a deliciously late breakfast spilling over into lunch?

Our brunch is a festival of North American, European, and Ecuadorian traditional food to be enjoyed leisurely, with friends or family.

Mashpi Lodge

At Mashpi Lodge we are motivated to please your wishes and interests, therefore, we do not have a set program. We'll make suggestions on highlights we think you'll like, but you get to choose how you enjoy your time with us. Here are some examples of how you can make the most of your time at the Lodge. 

BELOW IS AN EXAMPLE ITINERARY:

The adventure begins upon arrival at Mashpi Lodge, the estimated time of arrival is at 12:00. In the afternoon you can go out for an activity that could include taking an introductory walk through our magical forest. Afternoon activities begin at 3:00 p.m.

When night comes, a new group of creatures emerge, your guide might point out the frogs (some are transparent!), snakes and tarantulas that are found during a night walk.

The next day could start at sunrise on the panoramic terrace, watching -and hearing- a flock of birds flying around the lodge. After breakfast, you can walk to a waterfall, bathe in the dramatic water jet, and then head to the Hummingbird Garden. Another option is to discover the wonderful butterflies at the Life Center.

After lunch, you can cycle between two points in the forest about 200m apart on the Aerial Bike, followed by reaching and climbing the Observation Tower to enjoy the Reserve in its entirety and watch the sun set behind the mountains and clouds…

For the evening, we have prepared a series of talks: the “Hidden wildlife of Mashpi”, the “Chocó, a biological hotspot” about the formation and diversity of the Chocó, or about our scientific research projects. The talks will be given by one of our naturalists or our resident biologist at 7:30 p.m.

You may want to save the best for the last day; you can explore other trails in the forest, go to a different waterfall or find a corner to contemplate and reflect on your experience.

Note: There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, but it has a better connection in public areas.

As dawn’s first light makes its way across the Mashpi Reserve, an aerial adventure awaits atop the canopy. Our Guides beckon you to mount the Sky Bike, a unique and extremely safe contraption that allows you to glide above the treetops, offering unparalleled views of the forest below. Every time you pedal on the Sky Bike, you’ll gradually move across and over the breathtaking expanse of nature, allowing you to admire wonders that range from vibrant birds taking their morning flight to the misty layers of morning mist that weave through the verdant landscape.

As dawn breaks and the sun comes up, the morning mist gracefully retreats, unveiling the verdant tapestry of the forest below. Delicate drizzles of light morning rain drop across the canopy of brilliant leaves, and trickle down to replenish the Earth below. Amidst this, the mighty Mashpi River and its intricate web of tributary creeks and ravines weave their way throughout the Reserve.

Of the nearly 30 cascading waterfalls that grace the Mashpi Reserve, only four are accessible to our Guests, while certain others can be admired at a distance from the comfort of the Dragonfly Canopy Gondola. With cascading waters that range from 64 °F to 68 °F (18 °C to 20 °C), Mashpi’s four accessible waterfalls invite you to safely indulge in their cleansing and invigorating embrace. After all, there’s nothing like a refreshing dip at the end of a hike!
