Kosi Forest Lodge | Kosi Bay

Discover one of South Africa’s best ecotourist destinations at Kosi Forest Lodge, a hidden gem in the far North East of KwaZulu-Natal. Kosi Forest Lodge is an intimate upper 3 star lodge situated under a canopy of magnificent trees within a tranquil sand forest alongside the Kosi Lakes System. This unspoilt wilderness area is part of the iSimangaliso World Heritage Park.

This 20 bed tented  lodge offers comfortable accommodation in wooden, canvas & thatch cabins, with an indoor and outdoor shower, an outdoor bath, a mini bar and as a lovely touch, complimentary sherry to be enjoyed on the deck in front of the chalet. Family rooms are also available. A lovely sweeping pool overlooks Lake Shengeza where one can relax on the viewing deck in the shade of Umdoni trees while watching hippos & flamingoes in the lake or the beautiful Nguni cattle being driven back to the barn by herd boys.Having a sundowner whilst watching the sunset over the lake could not be more relaxing! Delicious home cooked meals are enjoyed on the big open deck next to the lounge, around the fire or in the boma. 

Daily guided canoe trips and walks through ancient and magnificent Raffia Palm Forests are offered at no additional cost. Additional activities are a boat trip exploring this unique system of lakes and channels where one can see hippo, crocodile, rare birds like the Pels Fishing Owl and Palm Nut Vulture. Included in this day trip is a picnic on the unspoilt shores of Bhanga Nek before proceeding over the dunes to an hour or two on the pristine, empty beach. Another additional activity is to join a 4x4 excursion to Kosi Bay Mouth viewing ancient Thonga Fish Traps and to enjoy exceptional snorkelling in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

A 4x4 is required to get to the lodge, however scheduled 25 minute long transfers are offered twice a day to and from KwaNgwanase / Manguzi. (ITT)
