Set among lush acres of landscaped gardens you'll find Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa, an urban sanctuary right in the heart of Johannesburg.
With close attention to detail and exceptional service, Fairlawns creates an intimate atmosphere where some of the globe’s most vibrant personalities converge. The chic, upscale suites are individually decorated in varying themes ranging from Eastern influence to French provincial, each featuring every desired modern amenity. The hotel also caters to a variety of culinary tastes with an array of elegant dining experiences to choose from.
Located in Johannesburg - South Africa’s largest city and gateway to the rest of Africa - Fairlawns is situated just 6 km from central Sandton, and 20 km from the Johannesburg city centre to offer the upmarket traveller a delicate mix of luxury and convenience. Established in 1997, Fairlawns, or “FBH” as it’s come to be affectionately known by Managing Director, Michael Kewley, is a property proud in heritage and character. Previously a luxury private residence, it is only fitting that the property has transformed “herself” into the stylish hotel, with an air of eclectic sophistication, that Fairlawns is today.

Imagine a smattering of billowing white tents, shaded by desert palms and surrounded by a thousand acres of shimmering, sparkling nothingness. You’ve just dreamt up San Camp, our impossibly romantic, seven-bedroom camp on the edge of the Nwetwe Pan in Botswana’s Makgadikgadi. San isn’t a place for frills and fluffiness. The magic is in the minimalism, both at the camp and in the mysterious desert landscape. You can forget the tourist crowds and over-stuffed 4x4s too; it’s just you, the wildlife, and a handful of local San Bushmen, waiting to share their secrets with you.
Of all the Makgadikgadi pans, we think Nwetwe is the most iconic. Meerkats pop up from the desert dust, brown hyaena hide in the grass, and you’ll see red hartebeest, springbok and gemsbok scurrying between them. But San Camp isn’t just about wildlife-watching – it’s about the atmosphere and the ethereal surroundings. Disappear into a remote world, a million miles from glowing screens and fruit-themed devices, where the 360-degree panoramas are so vast, you can see the curvature of the earth…

Reopening on 01 June 2026 following a complete rebuild, Kwetsani Camp retains its iconic elevated “treehouse” design while introducing a more refined and luxurious finish. Set on a palm-fringed island in the heart of the Jao Reserve, the camp offers one of the Delta’s most well-balanced safari experiences, combining both land and water-based activities.
Kwetsani features five spacious standard suites and one family suite (also suitable for four adults), each with en-suite bathrooms, an interleading lounge area and expansive views across wildlife-rich floodplains. Elevated wooden walkways connect the suites to the main thatched lounge, dining area and pool deck, all positioned to maximise panoramic vistas.
Guests enjoy day and night game drives within the Jao Reserve, with seasonal boat access to neighbouring Hunda Island for additional high-density game viewing. During high water periods, mokoro excursions, boating and seasonal fishing provide a classic Delta perspective.
INSIDER’S TIP: Relax on the pool deck in the afternoon — wildlife frequently moves across the open floodplains directly in front of camp.
