Set in the most prolific game area of the South Luangwa, Mfuwe Lodge is located just five minutes’ drive from the main gate. The thatched buildings are surrounded by ebony and mahogany trees that create a shady sanctuary for the lodge, which is arranged along the banks of two lagoons where an endless procession of wildlife will keep you enthralled as you lounge on our open deck or take a dip in the swimming pool. Each of our 18 thatched chalets features a secluded, covered veranda from which to view the wallowing hippo and thirsty game, while the new refurbished interiors are the perfect place to wind down, with their comfortable sitting rooms, en-suite bathrooms and panoramic walk-in showers.

INSIDER’S TIP: Around November each year, elephant come right through our reception lured by the wild mango tree in the courtyard.

There’s nothing quite like waking up at Chamilandu Camp. Early morning views don’t get much better than the rippling waters of the Luangwa River, the gentle rise of the Chindeni Hills and a vast African sky – especially from your four-poster bed in your handsome stilted tree-house.
