Conducted in an open vehicle, this immersive safari brings you closer to the sights, sounds, and scents of the desert. As the day begins or draws to a close, traverse rolling red dunes and open savannahs in search of wildlife such as springbok, ostrich, and other desert-adapted species. Your knowledgeable guide shares fascinating insights into the region’s unique ecology.

Take a guided drive to the Fish River Canyon to be inspired by new perspectives. Celebrate sunrise amidst the quiver trees and sunset from a hillock, overlooking spectacular scenery. The Canyon lodges are comfortable havens to take a break from the road. Explore and discover the ancient wonderland, or simply luxuriate in the peace, lounging at the poolside, snoozing in the coolness of your chalet or sitting on the terrace dipping into a book.

Barbecue packs are available at the reception of Desert Horse Inn (1.5 km); those who like to skip cooking for a change are more than welcome at the Inn's restaurant (subject to space available, please enquire upon arrival). Madisa Camp’s guided Elephant Tracking Excursion departs at 07:30 and usually lasts between six and eight hours, depending on where the desert-adapted elephants are moving on the day. Accompanied by an experienced guide, guests learn how to read tracks, signs and the surrounding bush while searching for these remarkable elephants in their natural Damaraland environment. A light lunch and cooldrinks are included, making this a full and rewarding day out in the wilderness.
The Scenic Sunset Drive leaves from Madisa Camp and meanders through the surrounding areas, where sightings of Elephant, Giraffe, Springbok and other game are possible but not guaranteed. The guide takes you up on a ‘koppie’ to enjoy the beautiful Damaraland sunset.

Okaukuejo Camp, located within Etosha National Park in Namibia, is the park’s oldest and most iconic tourist camp, just 17 km from Anderson Gate. The Waterberg Plateau Campsite is situated on a hill in the valley of the Waterberg near the main reception of the private nature reserve Waterberg Wilderness. It has eight pitches on the soft, red sand of the Kalahari, separated by bushes and trees.
At a roofed bar guests can order drinks, snacks and meat for barbecue and make use of the plugs for recharging cellphone and camera batteries. There is a swimming pool and a view point overlooking the Kalahari bush savannah. Free WLAN is available at the main reception (5 min walk).
Each pitch has its own shower/toilet in the central ablution block, with hot and cold water. All pitches offer a shadow roof, a table and a bench, barbecue facilities and a water tap. Rates include a parking bay and wood for grilling.
Camping guests are welcome to join the activities (guided Plateau Hike, Honeymoon Sundowner, Rhino Drive, game tracking, cultural tour into Hereroland, History Path, 5 nature trails) and have dinner at the restaurant of Waterberg Valley Lodge (5 min. walk).
