Nanzhila Lake Camp | Southern Kafue

Lake Camp is an addition to Nanzhila Safaris and perfectly compliments the Plains Camp experience. The focus of Lake Camp is exploring the Southern Kafue wildlife that is found around Lake Itezhi-tezhi. Here, the megaherbivores like elephant, buffalo and hippo are more common. The tented chalets are all situated along the tree line, giving guests an unobstructed view of the floodplain and shoreline ahead which has a constant flow of wildlife. The chalets feature comfortable beds with mosquito nets, as well as large en-suite bathrooms and vanity areas, and expansive covered verandahs for midday game viewing.

Kaingu Lodge | Central Kafue

Set in an area of pristine wilderness, KaingU Lodge offers a magnificent game and safari experience in the heart of the African bush. The lodge is environmentally-friendly, with the architecture of the entire camp and associated buildings designed to blend in and harmonise with the surroundings. Maximum use has been made of existing trees, rocky outcrops and topographical features in its layout and construction, thereby minimising the impact on the original look and feel of the area. The focal point of the lodge is the thatched central area with lounge, dining room and bar overlooking the river. Situated on a high plateau, KaingU enjoys an all-year-round moderate climate and is accessible in all seasons with good road and air access.
Perhaps the greatest feature of the lodge is the absolutely unique river landscape where the lodge is located. It is the only lodge on this unique stretch of river where the Kafue spreads out into a myriad of rocky channels and island before rejoining to flow into the lake. Game drives are usually done in the National Park (a ten minute boat ride away), while boating, canoeing, walks and even lounging in rock pools is also all on offer!

Most of the game drives are conducted in the National Park which is a ten minute boat ride from the lodge to the car park where the open vehicles are stationed. Kaingu vehicles are comfortable, 9 seat open game viewers with a canopy roof. Lodge policy is for six passengers per vehicle so that everyone has a 'window' seat. Drives on the lodge side of the river in the Game Management Area are usually short evening drives (often after a walk) in our much loved classic series III landrover.

One of Kaingu's biggest draws is the incredibly scenic river. Strewn with rocks and flowing into numerous channels it is without a doubt the prettiest stretch of the Kafue river. The Kaingu boats are six seat aluminium boats with quiet 4 stroke motors and swivel seats which are great for birding, photography, fishing or simply turning around to chat!

We are one of the very few operators conducting canoeing in Zambia outwith the Zambezi. The trips can be as long or as short as desired, and can be as placid or as rapid as you like. Overnight island sleep-outs can be part of the experience. The lodge has four custom made inflatable canoes which are perfect for exploring still and rocky channels or shooting the rapids.

Walking at Kaingu is mostly conducted in the Game Management Area around the lodge and can be as demanding or relaxing as you like. Many of the walks take advantage of the various granite hills to take advantage of sweeping views and perhaps a sundowner at the end of the walk and meeting our classic series III landrover to drive home in.

While strictly maybe not always defined as an 'activity', at Kaingu it is taken to quite a level. From simple meals on an island sleep-out through to full lodge service but on a sandy beach below the river rapids the settings and cuisine at Kaingu are hard to beat.

Deck Dining
Cuisine at Kaingu is something special. Menus that are updated and changed every year and every season. Brilliant chefs and locally sourced ingredients. Julia (lodge manager and menu designer) has worked closely with a top Zimbabwean based kitchen trainer to create superb cuisine.
