Our guides read the bush in real time. Tracks in the sand, alarm calls from the trees, birds gathering to circle above a kill. Every detail adds context to the story unfolding around you. Game drives are conducted twice a day (early morning, and late afternoon/ evening) in open 4-wheel drive safari vehicles. The 4-wheel drive safari vehicles enable the rangers to leave the road and provide guests with close up game viewing and fantastic photographic opportunities.
At Tengile, relaxing treatments are available in-room or in the tranquil spa. We have partnered with a leading holistic spa and skincare company, so you can enjoy an authentic, natural African experience. Expect pure indulgence, to emerge refreshed and wholly restored.
We offer tailored adventures on foot, in the company of your guide who applies strict rules to ensure your comfort and safety.
Weather-dependent, walks are conducted during the winter months when visibility is enhanced. It’s also more pleasant to move through dry bushveld, as you learn how to track and experience close encounters with smaller game without them being aware of your presence.
There are so many small and fascinating treasures to be found and studied when you are closer to the ground than inside a vehicle. Many tiny creatures and plants that go unseen during drives are waiting to be discovered on the soil and grasses.
The Boma is a central part of the evening experience at Tengile, combining refined cuisine with the atmosphere of the African bush. Menus change daily and blend modern culinary techniques with local South African flavours, using fresh and seasonal ingredients.
A well-stocked bar and mixologists provide craft cocktails, local gins, curated premium wines, while the kitchen caters to a wide range of dietary preferences and requirements.
Meals are thoughtfully woven into the rhythm of the safari day. Served in a variety of settings from the lodge’s river-facing dining areas and outdoor decks to traditional firelit bomas, or privately on the deck of your suite, creating dining experiences that are both relaxed and quietly memorable.

The Silo Hotel | Cape Town
The Silo Hotel is an architectural masterpiece towering above the V&A Waterfront surrounded by the natural and man-made wonders of South Africa’s Mother City. The Silo Hotel has 28 suites, including a spectacular penthouse. Each suites has been individually designed and decorated by The Royal Portfolio's founder, Liz Biden. Colourful and eclectic pieces juxtapose the modern, industrial architecture.
Situated above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), The Silo Hotel was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. Built as a granary in 1924, from the outside, the greatest visible change to the building’s original structure is the addition of pillowed glass windows, inserted into the geometry of the hotel floors, which gently curve outward. By night, this transforms the building into a glowing lantern or beacon in the harbour.

Muizenberg: head down to the Sunrise Beach in Muizenberg and take a surfing lesson with the local experts. Cape Point & Boulders Beach: explore the Cape Peninsula and see the fascinating penguins of Boulder’s Beach on a day trip from Cape Town. There are smaller, lesser known beaches - let us know how we can direct you to the beach experience of your choice. Please ask a member of our team should you need directions or transport.
The best place to experience Cape Malay cuisine is on a walking tour through the Bo-Kaap District in Cape Town, an area with steep cobblestone streets and brightly-coloured houses where former Cape Malay slaves settled in the early 19th century. Stop to enjoy a local bobotie, sosatie, koeksister or Cape Malay curry for lunch whilst learning about the rich heritage of the Cape Malay people who live there.

Hermanus is renowned as the best destination for land-based whale watching in the world and there is no finer spot to enjoy that than on the patio of Birkenhead House. But if you're serious about whales, then why not go on a whale cruise or even take to the skies, soaring high above these majestic mammals. Learn all about the fascinating behaviour of Southern Right and Humpback whales and gain insights into their extraordinary movements that include lob tailing, spy hopping and peduncling.
Waves splash into the mussel-clad rocks that decorate the beaches immediately below Birkenhead House. Our executive chef will take guests down to Voëlklip Beach and show them how to safely pick these delicious marine treats. Not only that, but he'll show you how to prepare the mussels with a little garlic, cream and white wine so that you can savour the fruits of your labour with a lovely glass of locally produced Sauvignon Blanc.
The Hemel-en-Aarde is one of South Africa's premier, cool-climate wine producing regions and is home to some of the country's finest and oldest estates including Hamilton Russel and Bouchard Finlayson as well as some of the more modern estates such as Creation. Not only are the wines superb, but the landscape is spectacular. Enjoy a guided tour with a knowledgeable expert, or enliven the experience by doing it on horseback or even on quad bikes.
Sea kayaking is a wonderful outdoor pursuit for the more adventurous. It will get you up close to some of Hermanus's fascinating sea life and it's also great exercise. Paddle along the coastline all the way from the Old Harbour in town to the New Harbour under the careful supervision of the local seals.
Hermanus is surrounded on all sides by natural wonder. As well as the marine fascinations, there are two incredible nature reserves in close proximity - Fernkloof Nature Reserve and Walker Bay Nature Reserve. For botanists, Fernkloof is certainly one of the most rewarding destinations in the Cape Floral Kingdom to explore the diverse fynbos.
Walker Bay is a coastal nature reserve that lies just east of Hermanus. The reserve includes five coastal areas between Hermanus and Die Dam near Struisbaai. The area is also historically significant, with records of Middle Stone Age people (65 000 to 85 000 years ago) living in Klipgat Cave.
Birkenhead House is one of the best spots in South Africa to relax. The beaches and the champagne air make for a heady combination. But no relaxation would be complete without a treatment in the Spa.
Whether you'd like a Swedish massage or a manicure & pedicure, the Birkenhead House Spa is the perfect Sanctuary in which to forget the worries of the world.
Hermanus is a wonderful golfing destination with two excellent courses very close by. Hermanus Golf Club in the centre of town and Arabella golf club just a short distance away. Arabella is consistently voted among the Top 5 golf courses in South Africa. For those looking for an extended golf tour, there are many more fantastic courses along the Garden Route.

Created exclusively as part of a Xigera stay, The Delta's Ancestral Passage is an extraordinary overnight journey into the living soul of the Okavango. Travelling by mokoro through hidden waterways, guests move at the Delta's rhythm, guided by those whose families have lived alongside these waters for hundreds of years. They hear the stories carried from one generation to the next, discover the ancient wisdom that has shaped life here for centuries, and begin to understand the heartbeat of this remarkable wilderness.
Inspired by the exploration and conservation work of National Geographic Explorer Dr. Steve Boyes, The Delta's Ancestral Passage offers guests the rare privilege of experiencing this place through the people who know it most intimately, while helping ensure that its stories, wisdom and wilderness will continue to endure for generations to come.
The Delta's Ancestral Passage represents a new way of experiencing the Okavango, one where exceptional hospitality, pioneering conservation and generations of local knowledge come together in a single journey.
From May 2027, The Delta's Ancestral Passage will form part of an exclusive four-night Xigera journey, with departures limited to just six guests at a time, or available on an exclusive-use basis.
Available from May to September.
Move through the Delta’s living landscapes on dawn, dusk, or guest-desired game drives. Follow dusty paths across floodplains and woodlands, where elephants wade through channels, lion prides rest in golden light, and the elusive leopard moves like shadow through the trees. With Xigera’s expert guides, each drive becomes a deeper encounter, with wildlife, with land, and the stories they hold.
Tread with nature on guided bush walks, attuning to every sound, scent, and track under the experienced care of our guides. Walking slowly unwraps the linked pace of the wild, where wisdom is written into every track and leaf.
Drift through the Delta’s waterways on traditional mokoros, guided by the steady hand of your poler, each push moving you silently, deeper into the bountiful landscape. Our polers grew up navigating these waters and are expert at spotting and identifying aquatic birds, fish and wildlife along the channels.
Explore winding papyrus-fringed channels aboard our double-decker motorboats, where the water’s surface mirrors the sky. These excursions also allow for exploration of the deeper rivers and lagoons that are home to crocodile and large pods of hippo. Please note that boating is seasonal, water levels permitting.
From the Coppery-tailed Coucal to the Western-banded Snake Eagle, Wattled Crane to Lesser Jacana, walking safaris are an ideal opportunity for enthusiastic bird-watchers to admire the over 500 species recorded in the Okavango Delta. Xigera’s exceptional location on the fringes of the Moremi Game Reserve delivers some of the best birding Botswana has to offer - including the much sought-after Pel's Fishing Owl.
Catch-and-release fishing offers a serene but exciting encounter with the Delta’s waters. Tigerfish, African Pike, and Bream await, but sustainably, mindfully and unforgettable. Please note that catch-and-release fishing is season-dependent.
Meticulously designed to frame breathtaking views of the seasonal flood plains and lush riverine forests, Xigera's spa is a sanctuary of calm. Treatments blend Tata Harper’s award-winning organic skincare with the healing power of indigenous botanicals. Signature massages, facials, and body rituals reveal the mystical healings of the Delta, restoring balance to body and spirit.
The lodge showcases a modern fitness centre – with state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym – alongside a swimming pool and relaxation deck gazing over the river.
Spend an unforgettable night 10 metres above the floodplains in our exclusive sculptural Baobab Treehouse, offering panoramic views from each of its three levels. Open to the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the Delta, it is Africa’s most extraordinary sleepout experience. Situated one kilometre away from the lodge, with a guide stationed close by, the striking steel structure is built in the evocative shape of a Baobab tree.
Inside the tree’s ‘trunk’, a winding staircase climbs nearly four metres above ground, delivering guests to the spacious bathroom on the first level. The bedroom is located on the second level, beautifully appointed with carved timber furniture. Both spaces have canvas walls that can open up to the outside environment, or be zipped closed to allow for privacy and protection from the elements.
Ascend to the top and the drama unfolds, with an open-air deck for lounging, reading and watching wildlife pass undisturbed below. A serene, hidden eyrie from which to witness the magic of the Delta at dusk or ¬– if you choose to spend the night in the open-air king-size bed – to marvel at the stars.
Please note the Baobab Treehouse is at a surcharge and cannot be pre-booked.
Take to the skies for an aerial perspective of the Delta’s immeasurable wonder. Choose door-off flights for unmatched photographic opportunities, or pair with champagne landings on hidden palm islands.
The Xigera Citizen Employee Trust
Our Mission
At Xigera, people are at the heart of everything we do. We started the Xigera Citizen Employee Trust as a pioneering equity-sharing initiative to ensure local communities directly benefit from tourism while empowering their staff as true stakeholders.
Our Impact
The Xigera Citizen Employee Trust grants the local Botswana team a 16% ownership stake in the lodge, allowing them to directly share in its success. The trust successfully distributed dividends to its employees in 2023, 2024, and 2025
The lodge employs a permanent team of over 120, supporting more than 1,000 people through extended families. Salaries exceed industry standards, complemented by pension contributions, medical aid, and individual en-suite staff housing of the highest standard in the region.
In addition, the lodge has implemented a P4,000 entry-level minimum wage to ensure competitive, fair compensation. Workers receive full medical aid coverage, 100% maternity leave pay, and 50% paternity pay—a notable benchmark in the regional hospitality industry.
Giraffe Conservation Foundation
Our Mission
In partnership with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, we help track genetic hybridisation in local populations of giraffes. The GCF is the only non-governmental organization (NGO) in the world that focuses solely on the conservation and management of giraffes in the wild throughout Africa. With fewer than 117,000 giraffes remaining in the wild, their populations have plummeted by 30% over the last 40 years.
Our Impact
Through support of the GSF, 118 giraffe tissue samples were collected from 26 giraffe populations across Botswana. These samples are now with our partners at BiK-F Senckenberg in Frankfurt, Germany, for analysis.
Preliminary and final results will form the basis of future giraffe conservation management in Botswana.
Habu Village Partnership
Our Mission
This is a partnership between Wild Entrust Africa and Xigera Safari Lodge that works to improve the health and overall well-being for the Habu community through program support towards food security, employment opportunities, improving literacy and fostering environmental stewardship. The following ongoing activities are implemented by Wild Entrust’s Community Coexistence Program based in Habu Village:
The Village Kids programme addresses conservation awareness among the local children, who have rarely had the chance to view wildlife outside of conflict scenarios. In association with Wild Entrust’s Coaching Conservation programme, kids are taken out on Bush Days with Xigera's guides who educate them in interpreting the landscape and seeing wildlife in a positive light.
The Village Lights programme provides solar lights, backpacks and environmental themed books to the students of Habu Primary. The aim is to foster a love for both reading and the environment in the youth of Habu, and to enable children to study in the evenings, as many households in Habu still lack electricity.
Village Greens is an income-generation and sustainable farming programme that empowers local women and youth to grow their own produce and sell it to the hospitality sector.
Our Impact
In 2025 alone, Xigera's support resulted in:
o 215 primary school learners supported through education and conservation activities (Over 5,000 hours of education).
o 39 Standard 5 learners who received solar lights
o Youth and women participants involved in Village Greens income generation
Various - A Global Standard for Responsible Tourism
Our Mission
Since its founding, Xigera Safari Lodge has adopted various steps to ensure a low-volume, high-value tourism model, solidifying its commitment to the Okavango Delta remaining a sanctuary for generations to come and reinforcing Botswana’s global reputation for conservation excellence. Protecting Botswana’s biodiversity is core to our mission. We work alongside experts and organisations to protect this remarkable ecosystem now and for generations to come. Some of these measures include:
AI & Wildlife Monitoring: We use cutting-edge, non-invasive technology to monitor key predator populations.
Raptors Botswana & Crane Conservation: We support endangered birds of prey and wattle crane conservation efforts.
Anti-Poaching Support: Xigera collaborates with Botswana’s Department of Wildlife and National Parks to monitor wildlife activity and support anti-poaching initiatives.
EcoExist: Seek to reduce conflict and foster coexistence between elephants and people.
Our Impact
In 2025 alone:
- Our state-of-the-art solar power plant supplied 92% of the lodge’s energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and eliminating 175,000 litres of diesel consumption in 2025
- Zero-waste in 2025 - all organic materials were composted to sustain Habu Village’s thriving vegetable gardens.
- Direct funding continued for Raptors Botswana, protecting endangered birds of prey, as well as assisting in wattle crane conservation, one of Africa’s most vulnerable bird species.
- Actively reported and assisted with anti-poaching efforts alongside Botswana’s wildlife authorities.
Various - Empowering People

o Chef apprenticeships in collaboration with Boswa Culinary School, offering young talent invaluable world-class experience.

Elephant Havens
Our Mission
We believe that tourism, and the partnerships that help sustain it, can and should be a force for good. That is why, in place of gifting merchandise to trade partners, from 2026 we have added a new element to our existing partnership with Elephant Havens, a non-profit organisation working on the ground in Botswana to protect and preserve the African elephant. It is Botswana’s only elephant orphanage, rescuing and hand-rearing orphaned and abandoned calves before releasing them back into the wild as independent herds.
It’s estimated that over 80% of promotional products are discarded within a year, often ending up in landfill. That sits uncomfortably with who we are. As such, in lieu of physical gifts, Xigera will make a donation, in each partners name, to support the care, protection, and growth of Joy, an orphaned elephant in the care of Elephant Havens.
Our Impact
This donation will directly support Joy’s survival and growth of what she needs most in her critical early years:
o 5,840 litres of milk each year
o Bottle feeding every three hours, day and night
o Constant protection, guidance, and gentle care
Through this joint initiative, we will be directly supporting the future of Joy, her eventual return to the wild and the regeneration of the Endangered African Elephant.
2026 investment is estimated at $12,000USD.
