Deluxe Tent Toms Little Hide The Private Hide

The Hide sleeps up to 20 guests in ten comfortable and spacious deluxe, family deluxe and honeymoon deluxe tents. The tents have a myriad of different configurations with indoor and/or outdoor bathtubs and showers. They are fan cooled for your comfort in summer and have extra warm blankets and hot water bottles for the cool winter months. Each has a private veranda from where guests may be entertained by the comings and goings of a large variety of game at the waterhole. One tent is wheelchair friendly.

Tom’s Little Hide is best suited for 6 adults and up to 4 children, but can happily accommodate a group of 8 adults, too.
Rooms 1 and 2, both double en-suite bedrooms, can also accommodate one child in each on a roomy day bed. The bedrooms are linked by a dining room and outside veranda, complete with sparkling swimming pool.

Rooms 3 and 4 have been recently rebuilt (2024) and redecorated and are equal in size, now, to 1 and 2.
Tom’s Little Hide comes with its own private guide and vehicle, in order for you to take full advantage of all the activities, at your own pace. Booking is done on a minimum of 4 pax.

When using The Private Hide, guests stay in The Hide’s tents – Tent 7, 6, 5 and/or 4, depending on the numbers. Tents 7 and 6 are large deluxe or family tents, which can accommodate two adults and two children in full-size beds. Each room has its own en suite bathroom – indoor bath, inside and outdoor shower and hot water all day. All rooms are mosquito-proofed and have fans for your comfort during the warmer months. Booked by a minimum of 4 full paying guests, Tom’s Little Hide accommodates up to 6 adults in three beautiful ’safari-chic’ rooms overlooking the waterhole. The third room is a tented room with an inter-leading passage to a children's room. Tom’s Little Hide is ideally suited to no more than 10 guests including children (children of any age are welcome). Should there be more than 6 adults, The Hide's adjacent Tents 10 and/or Tent 9 may be used as additional accommodation.

Tom’s Little Hide professional guide will passionately offer the guests a true wilderness and wildlife experience that Hwange National Park is so well known for. With up to 4 activities included in the rate per day there is ample opportunity to view some of the 100 plus mammal and 400 bird species. The activities include bush walks with your Zimbabwean Professional Guide, day and night game drives or underground 'viewing hide’ sits.

The Private Hide is an 'exclusive use facility' which includes a dining room, lounge, swimming pool and fire pit. The Private Hide comes with your own Professional Guide and private vehicle.

Just the two of you. Kept simple, as a tree-house should be, the bedroom of the Dove’s Nest is reached by a wooden stairway and trap door. Guests are dropped off after the afternoon activity and dinner and drinks await.

Morning and afternoon guided walks are offered at The Hide Safari Camp.

The Hide Safari Camp is fortunate to have the best of both worlds. While located within the Hwange National Park, it is also surrounded by a private concession which allows us to offer activities not otherwise permitted. Hwange is a vast playground worth exploring so you don’t have to worry about being bored. Early morning walks are there for the thrill of encountering wildlife on its own terms and exploring the little surprises of the bush.

Morning and afternoon game drives as well as night drives with a spotlight are offered at The Hide Safari Camp.

Days can be spent further afield on game drives in search of predators and prey alike. We like to do things properly so sundowners are an important part of the experience. Enjoy the natural beauty with a cold drink in hand. The guides at The Hide are very much part of the family and have been with us for many years. They have undergone some of the most rigorous training in Africa and their passion for and knowledge of the bush is often what makes a safaris so special.

You’re sitting on the deck at The Hide ‘A’ frame. The sun has just set, its residual warmth a soft tinge of pink in the sky. Just then, a family of elephants strolls into the scene and up to the waterhole. You watch, fascinated by their interactions. Now, here’s where you jump into action. Without the need for a guide or host, you can go directly from the deck into the underground hide and observe the elephant family from up-close. Just step off the deck and slip down the steps into a whole new world. Along a tunnel, you’ll walk for about 10 metres under the surface of the earth – and then emerge into a “window on the waterhole”, where you can sit quietly, the unobserved observing. It’s a special addition and makes the experience of “game viewing” more intense and personal.

Along the same tunnel, guests are delighted to find, hidden away in the wall, a real wine cellar. Perfectly cooled at a steady 17 degrees Celsius, ambient-lit and stocked with a small selection of fine wines from around the world, this is a welcome addition to an already all-sensory experience at The Hide.

A native Zimbabwean, Neil Fairlie is a professional wildlife documentary filmmaker with a profound knowledge and deep respect for Africa and its wildlife. His formal experience spans more than a decade, including the recent Netflix series Our Planet, but he is also qualified as a learner guide, and his intimate knowledge of the bush, natural instincts and skill in capturing unique moments of animal behaviour on film make him a brilliant photographic safari guide. Early Morning and Sunset Game drives are included in your stay. Each game drive is approximately 3h30 minutes long.

Embark on a Guided Walk with your Ranger, as you learn about wildlife, fauna and flora in the area.

Half Day Trip
We offer an exciting half day trip that includes visiting our local School, a small rural village near
the National Park, and an informative stop over at the Wild Dog Research Centre.

A Brief Description - After an early breakfast at 7am, guests depart on a slow game drive north east towards Hwange Main Camp, which takes around 2 hours. Guests will visit The National Parks Primary School that we as Verney’s Camp have adopted and sponsor along with other operators in Hwange National Park. After the visit, guest travel to Mabale Village where we visit this authentic rural village typical to the area, and meet the local people from the district. Following this visit we then head to the Painted Dog Research Centre to learn more about the endangered African Wild Dog, guests also get a chance to meet the researches and get involved in future sponsorship of this critical study. Then it’s back to Verney’s Camp after a scrumptous picnic lunch at one of the numerous waterholes on the way.

Best days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Pre-booking this activity helps us to coordinate with
the school and researchers (During school holidays and weekends the school is closed however the trip still operates to the other two venues).

Tembo Plains, meaning "Elephant Plains" is built in the thick riverine forest on the edge of the Zambezi River, in the private 128,000 hectare Sapi Reserve, which is just east of Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park

Offering six tented suites, Tembo Plains Camp offers guests the choice of 4 double or twin bed configuration suites, each with their own private indoor lounge area and outdoor swimming pool, veranda and outdoor dining area. The beautiful Zanji Suite at Tembo Plains, comprises two suites with private shared lounge and dining area is available. All rooms enjoy expansive en-suite bathroom facilities including indoor baths, showers and double vanities.

What makes Tembo Plains Camp's design genuinely unique is the combination of canvas and stone walls, an architectural reference to the Zimbabwe Ruins. Outside this packstone wall design continues along the back of the guest accommodation, affording guests greater privacy whilst leaving uninterrupted views of Zambezi river flowing just meters away.

Painted dogs (wild dogs), lions and leopards are seen increasingly whilst buffalo, and of course, elephants, which are often seen daily in front of the camp.

The safari experiences on offer will certainly appeal to any safari guest who is looking to truly enjoy and partake in the excitement of wildlife viewing safari drives, boating and canoeing or tracking and exploring the interior of the private reserve, being one of Africa’s remote wilderness areas.

Whilst you traverse the diverse terrain of the Sapi Reserve, discover the legendary Mtawatawa pan, encounter some of Africa’s largest wildlife species by vehicle or on foot whilst continually learning more about this incredible ecosystem. The opportunity to view Africa’s animals and birdlife with the water activities on offer including canoeing or boating is special indeed.

The reserve has a large array of baobab trees, one of which is believed to be the final resting place for an eclectic mix of personal paraphernalia of Chief Chikwenya including bows, arrows, and spears. The tree itself is estimated to be twelve hundred odd years old and has rotted within providing a voluminous hollow inside the bark walls.

We use custom-built, open Toyota Land Cruisers specially designed for our conditions and photography, including fold-down windscreens, raised roofs, photographic bars, and multi-plug inverters. Each of the Land Cruisers is fully stocked with reference books, drinks, and snacks. Guests have the opportunity to experience up-close encounters with elephants, lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, buffalo, eland, zebra, and other ungulate species. This is a prime bird-watching country, and opportunities abound for guests to spot resident and migrant species, especially in the early morning and late afternoons.

The focus of your stay is centred around exploration and adventure. Many activities involve day and night wildlife viewing drives and walking with some canoeing and excellent boating opportunities on the Zambezi River.

Guided walks are led by licensed guides with firearm training.

Mpala Jena is a boutique safari camp positioned along the beautiful tree-laden banks of the Zambezi River. Open vehicle safari drives in Zambezi National Park. The camp has custom built Land cruisers specially designed for photography. With just four to six guests each, the vehicles are fully stocked with reference books, drinks and snacks.

Mpala Jena’s wooden dhow, brought from the Zanzibar coast to Zimbabwe, is available for guests to enjoy when on a sunrise cruise or late afternoon sunset sail along the Zambezi River. The journey is a relaxed way of experiencing one of Africa's most iconic rivers whilst under sail. Guests head upriver from Mpala Jena, returning with the flow of the river as it flows toward the Victoria Falls in the distance. A wide selection of beverages and snacks are provided on the dhow, based on the guest's preference.

If need be, there is an external motor available. This experience is a seasonal offering, dependent on the waters of the Zambezi River. Life jackets are supplied.

Mpala Jena Camp has it's own 8-seater aluminum hulled motor boat perfect for sun-downer cruises.

During a two night stay, guests have the opportunity to enjoy a half-day guided excursion to the thunderous and impressive mass of falling water of the Victoria Falls.

Expect an array of delicious items on the menu, with a touch of traditionally Zimbabwean flavours, all freshly prepared on open coal fires. The hotel’s extensive range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages is served by attentive waiters set to ensure an unforgettable experience. Guests often get the opportunity to dine in the company of meandering hippos, buffalo or elephants.

The Riverside Dining Experience is available to guests from all hotels in Victoria Falls and is available throughout the year, weather conditions permitting. A minimum of 6 pax are required for the experience to take place and advanced reservations are essential.

We have recently built a fully-mobile, multi-layered wooden deck on which to host all riverside dining offerings, enhancing our guests’ comfort and taking care of the environment at the same time. Livingstone Island

Livingstone Island sits on the edge of Victoria Falls and is the very spot where Dr David Livingstone famously stated, ‘scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.’ The island is managed by the Tongabezi Team, and you’d be crazy to miss the experience.  A boat delivers guests to the island to soak up the history and beauty. The brave can even swim in Devil’s Pool, a naturally occurring rock pool on the edge of the waterfall, and have the thrilling opportunity to look over the very edge as thousands of litres of water jump over into the abyss below.  A very seasonal activity, access depends entirely on the Zambezi River levels. Devil’s Pool is usually open between mid-August and late December, and the island is open a little longer on both sides of that. Swimming is never guaranteed – please always check the river levels with our team in advance.

Tangala House Nut House

angala Private House is a luxurious family home on the banks of the Zambezi River that has been tastefully designed and furnished in true Tongabezi style.

It lies close to the main lodge at Tongabezi while still being secluded enough to ensure a private and safe environment for your family holiday. Tangala has four bedrooms, three of which have en-suite bathrooms. The fourth room has twin beds, is ideal for children and there is a bathroom across the hallway. The house also comes with two gorgeous, family-friendly dogs.

The rooms are enclosed with wide windows that provide magnificent views across the Zambezi. The living room has a large sofa and two armchairs and leads onto a 'snuggery' with satellite TV, video, hi-fi and fireplace. The kitchen and dining room are open plan and spacious to suit the comings and goings of all family members.

An open-thatch veranda easily seats 10 and steps lead out onto the garden that has 250m of private river frontage. The 13-metre swimming pool has a shallow area with bench seating for the little ones and the terrace has an eight-seat railway sleeper picnic table. Tangala also has its own well-equipped gym.

A soft colour palette flows throughout this intimate space, which is open-plan and divided into two levels. The four poster bed sits covered in mosquito netting on the top level, and steps down into an indoor lounge, dining area and separate en-suite bathroom with an inviting claw-foot tub. Folding doors open onto the elevated private river deck and infinity plunge pool, where you can choose to take your meals in complete privacy if you wish.

A boat cruise at sunset or sunrise is a superb way to relax and enjoy the immersive beauty of the Zambezi, whilst keeping an eye out for wildlife on the river banks.

This is the only wildlife park in the area that provides refuge to white rhinos, which are closely protected by anti-poaching units. While on your game drive, keep an eye out for giraffe, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, wildebeest, zebra and diverse bird life.

All guests are invited to visit, engage with, and learn from the Tongabezi Trust School’s 280 bright, talented students, all of who receive free education and nutritious meals at Tujatane. In fact, if you are only going to do one happy thing during your stay at Tongabezi, we’d suggest it is a tour of this school.

This is one of our signature Tongabezi experiences, and for guests who haven't spent much time researching us online, we keep the Sandbar as a marvellous surprise. Immerse yourself in the tranquillity of watching two sunsets -- above and within the water -- with sand in your toes and a drink in your hand.

Safaris can be quite sedentary, so we like to give our guests spaces where they can get moving and keep their energy levels high for their daily adventures. We have a personal trainer onsite daily.

Sit in the shallows of the Tongabezi Rock Pool with a cocktail in hand and the Zambezi River flowing before you, or spend some quality sunshine time by the Tongabezi Lap Pool a little further back from the river.

The Zambezi River, around Victoria Falls, is an excellent spot for both pole and fly fishing. There are over 75 species of freshwater fish in these warm, nutrient-rich waters, although it is usually one specific species that draws fishermen here – the tiger. Revered for their power and fierce set of teeth, landing a tiger fish is no easy task, even for a seasoned angler. Even an unsuccessful fishing outing on the Zambezi is still enjoyable if just for the beautiful scenery and tranquility.

They come to buy everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to chitenge, the bright patterned fabric characteristic of Southern and East African fashion. One of our team will be there to guide you through the marketplace and will be there to help you with buying from vendors if you need.

Victoria Falls River Lodge is the first private game lodge to be set in the Zambezi National Park. Accommodating a maximum of two adults, these luxurious 110 square meter thatched tents are fully air-conditioned. Constructed of canvas, glass and wood - each extends out onto a private deck with its own plunge pool and boasts uninterrupted panoramas of the Zambezi River and natural bush.

Boasting a larger than king size bed, comfortable sitting area, open plan bathroom with freestanding bathtub and both indoor and outdoor showers. Twin bedded sleeping configurations are also possible.

Each area of the suite opens to stunning river views, offering an uninterrupted connection with the wild landscape. An adjoining children’s room provides privacy and convenience, featuring a queen-size bed and an extra-length ¾ bed, along with a private en-suite bathroom. In addition to the host of amenities available in the Luxury Tent, the 119 square meter Luxury Family Tents at Victoria Falls River Lodge offer guests travelling as a family an adjoining tented room.

Comprising of either one single (¾ sized) bed and one bunk bed, or twin ¾ sized beds, where up to three sharing children younger than 17 years old can sleep comfortably; the adjoining children's alcove allows parents a bit more privacy whilst still keeping their children in close proximity.

The expansive en-suite bathrooms are open plan and shared. A curtain may be drawn between the bathroom and main living area thereby offering more privacy as and when required.

Set among the trees on the banks of the secluded Kandahar Island - and accessible by boat only - each of the 4 exquisite 95-square meter Island Treehouse Suites can accommodate a maximum of two guests (12 years and older) and features a host of luxury conveniences, elegantly appointed sitting area, open-plan en-suite bathroom and a private deck with plunge pool.

In addition to the wealth of luxury amenities offered in the Island Treehouse Suites, the 100 square meter double-storey Starbed Treehouse Suites also boast a spacious sitting area, en-suite bathroom with twin vanities and twin rain-showers and a private rooftop sitting area, with its signature Starbed. Victoria Falls River Lodge and the Zambezi National Park are a bird watcher’s paradise.

In a comparatively small area around Victoria Falls, birding enthusiasts will be able to view a great diversity of birds within rain forest, riverine, gorge and savannah habitats.

Local species include Rock Pratincole, Schalow’s Turaco, African Finfoot, Half Collared Kingfisher, Thick Billed Weaver, African Skimmer, Pels Fishing Owl, Collared Palm Thrush and Western Banded Snake Eagle (to name but a few).

Guests at Victoria Falls River Lodge seldom have to travel too far from their private decks however as the lush foliage around the lodge offers ample opportunity to enjoy many of the spectacular array of bird life that Zimbabwe has to offer.

As such, lodge visionaries George Pangeti and Mark Bosch have appointed a team of Zimbabwe hospitality industry stalwarts, including the personable Roddy Meiring as Group General Manager and ‘mien host’ Jonathan Ellway as Front of House GM. “Having recently returned from Tanzania with my wife and family, we are delighted to be back in the Falls and being just 5 kilometers upstream, are able to enjoy a combination of both civilization and the wild," says Meiring.

A number of exciting activities and experiences will be offered at Victoria Falls Island Lodge.
