The 10 garden cottages, complete with private verandahs and stunning views of the lush gardens, are the perfect place to reflect on or prepare for your safari. Not forgetting the beginnings of this century-old estate, Legendary Lodge is surrounded by a working coffee plantation. Guests can spend a morning following a coffee bean from tree to cup: from the agriculture, to picking and roasting, to the making of that delicious blend many of us enjoy at home, as Tanzanian coffee is exported far and wide.
Coffee tours take place on Legendary Lodge's neighbouring Burka Coffee farm.

Dining at Legendary Lodge
As with any farmhouse, the kitchen tends to be the heart of the home, and Legendary Lodge is no exception. Our team of incredibly talented Tanzanian chefs will leave you wishing you had more space for another course. Using only the freshest ingredients and prepared with a large scoop of love, every meal will be an experience.
Breakfast is typically available from 6.30am but we are happy to arrange for it at your desired time. A selection of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts and pastries — baked that morning by our pastry chef — will be laid out. Your waiter will take a hot breakfast order.
Lunch and dinner offer three courses, with a choice for all courses.
Ensuring that your mealtime is an experience, enjoy the warmth of the sun when we move your lunch table into the gardens, or relax on the verandah at night, with gas heaters warming the air, and a throw around your shoulders.
We welcome you at the fire-place in the evenings for a pre-dinner drink: a chance for us to have a chat, but should you feel so at home that you would prefer to enjoy meals in your cottage, please just let the lodge manager know so that this can be arranged for you.

Swala Camp, an A&K Sanctuary | Tarangire National Park
Amongst acacia trees and ancient baobabs, Swala Camp offers fantastic safari accommodation in a secluded location in Tarangire National Park. Swala Camp is at the heart of Tarangire National Park, where Northern Tanzania’s largest population of elephant makes its home, as does a rare white giraffe. Abandoned termite mounds become the sanctuary of dwarf mongoose. You may have decided with your guide to take a picnic breakfast or lunch with you but equally lovely in the evening is to enjoy a bush dinner. A secluded clearing is prepared for a traditional East African meal in the middle of the Tarangire bush. With a sundowner in hand watch as the sun swiftly sinks and your setting becomes illuminated by a magnificent log fire. Put on your walking shoes and experience beautiful Tarangire National Park from a different perspective with a walking safari at Swala Camp. With our professional walking guide and armed ranger, guests can now explore the grassland around camp in one of the most secluded areas of the park. Our qualified guide has a wealth of knowledge and will explain how to understand animal behavior while tracking a variety of game. You may encounter zebra, waterbuck, impala, ostrich, elephant as well as a number of birds. Swala Camp is one of only a few camps within Tanzania's Northern Park that is able to offer walking safaris.
Experience the wonders of a safari at night in Tarangire. As dusk falls, relax in the comfort of Swala Camp customized safari vehicle as you venture into the park transformed by night. Search for nocturnal animals rarely seen as this is one of the few places in northern Tanzania where you can enjoy a safari by moonlight. At night, you may encounter an African wild cat, the elusive leopard or feel the round eyes of a bushbaby peering down at you as the moon rises into the sky. With specialized lighting you will be able to look for lion and hyena, as well as smaller creatures such as spotted genet, serval, bat eared foxes, owls and nightjars. (Maximum 5 people)

As evening sets in, enjoy drinks and canapés around the camp fire; followed by a three course plated dinner as you discuss the great game viewing and events of the day. The camp's signature dish - and a definite favourite amongst guests - is our mouth-watering dessert called "Chocolate Kilimanjaro." It resembles the white snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and simply melts in your mouth - but don't take our word for it, try it for yourself when you visit this very special camp. As you approach the boma, you'll likely see traditional Maasai warriors, known as "morans," standing guard. The boma is a circular enclosure of thorn bushes designed to protect livestock from predators. Upon entering the boma, you'll be greeted by the Maasai people, who are well-known for their warm hospitality. You may be offered a traditional welcome dance, where the men showcase their jumping skills, a crucial part of Maasai culture.
Inside the boma, you'll see traditional Maasai houses, known as "manyattas." These houses are typically made of mud, sticks, grass, and cow dung. They are small and simple yet sturdy enough to withstand the elements. You'll learn about the Maasai way of life, including their traditional dress, diet, and customs. You may also participate in activities such as milking cows, herding goats, or learning how to make traditional Maasai jewelry. Olmoti Crater, which means "big cooking pot" in the Maasai language, is a sunken caldera with grassy areas and a river valley, providing a water source and grazing grounds for wildlife. Game drives are available as either shared experiences or private, utilizing our fleet of both open-air and enclosed 4x4 Land Cruisers, which are reliable, comfortable, and well-maintained. Each Land Cruiser is equipped with charging ports, onboard refrigeration, camera stabilization bean bags, vehicle recovery equipment, VHF radio systems, comprehensive guidebooks, first aid supplies, safety belts, and one pair of binoculars, which the guide uses for spotting, but which can be borrowed if the traveler did not bring their own. Most importantly, you’ll be accompanied by our exceptional guides who participate in biannual training programs with both in-house specialists and external instructors, ensuring expertly led wildlife encounters throughout your safari.
