May Queen | Colorado

At an elevation of 9,900 feet, the May Queen campground is located at the far western end of Turquoise Lake in a shaded lodgepole pine forest. Conveniently perched near the Charles Boustead Memorial Tunnel, May Queen offers easy access to boating, fishing and hiking. Each site comes with a campfire ring and picnic table. No electric hookups are available. Easy access to the lake is provided for canoes and other hand-carried boats. Hiking trails are available in the area for guests to enjoy the landscape.

Fitton Guard Station Cabin | Colorado

Nestled amongst the meadows at 10,600 feet on Burro Creek near an off-highway vehicle trail. The small, rustic cabin sleeps four with two bunk beds. There is a wood-burning cookstove, outhouse, barn for horses, fire ring, table, chairs and a small covered porch. There is no potable water. Natural sources of water should be treated before use. Firewood not provided, but can be gathered near the cabin.

There are meadows, aspen groves and spruce/fir forests near the cabin. At 13, 200 feet, Bennett Peak sits southeast of the cabin. The surrounding area offers many recreation opportunities, including hunting, hiking, off-highway vehicle riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling, backcountry skiing, horseback riding and fishing.

Big Meadows Reservoir Campground | Colorado

Big Meadows Reservoir Campground is located in the San Juan Mountains in south-central Colorado, just west of South Fork. The campground is lightly wooded with spruce trees, creating a beautiful meadow atmosphere. The Rio Grande National Forest spans 1.86 million acres in south-central Colorado. Each site has a campfire ring and picnic tables with drinking water available. The campground meanders up a mountainside above Big Meadows Reservoir in a series of loops. As a sub-alpine region, the campground gets more rainfall than the opposite side of the lake, resulting in plentiful wildflowers and aspens surrounding the campsites. A nearby trail accesses the Weminuche Wilderness, Colorado's largest wilderness, which boasts the headwaters of dozens of major streams and rivers that feed into the Rio Grande and San Juan rivers.

Located close to Durango, Colorado, Junction Creek Campground is set within the San Juan National Forest and is an ideal option for nature enthusiasts looking for a relaxing stay surrounded by pristine natural landscapes. The campground offers a selection of 44 sites made up of double and single sites, with some having electrical hookups. Tables and campfire rings can be found at the campsite. Activities in the surrounding area include hiking, fishing, and mountain biking.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park | Colorado

Located in Western Colorado, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park earned its name because parts of the gorge only have sunlight for 33 minutes of the day. The park has two main entrances, with the South Rim entrance 24 kilometres East of Montrose, and the North Rim entrance 18 kilometres South of Crawford. The park itself contains 12 kilometres of the deepest and most impressive section of the 77 km-long Black Canyon. The area contains a wide variety of fauna and flora, and wildlife includes the black bear, pronghorn, coyote, and muskrat among others. Birds in the area include the American Dipper, eight species of hawk, and two species of eagle. One of the attractions of the park is the panoramic scenery driving along the US Highway 50 and Colorado Highway 92.
