Designed to capture the splendor and solitude of the desert, just ten stone and glass suites spread out along the curve of the escarpment, allowing absolute privacy. Each air conditioned glass-fronted suite is designed to complement the expansive views of the different habitats, perfectly framed from the spacious internal areas. Featuring a private veranda, bedroom with retractable skylights for in-bed star-gazing, a living room with a fireplace, an ensuite bathroom with a glass-encased rain shower offering 180º views, and a perfectly-positioned private plunge pool for some sublime respite after a long day in the desert heat.
All suites include star-viewing skylights, discrete music systems and customised personal bars. One of the most innovative features of the accommodation design is the way in which the extremes of the natural environment are harnessed to create energy and recycle waste water. Each suite is like its own solar power plant, producing enough energy to not only power the air conditioning, and all the super-comforts of a luxury lodge, but also the water treatment and recycling systems.
Creating an ideal family environment, or an ideal option for groups of friends, the Star Dune Suite consists of two suites linked by a covered walkway, with a private lounge and dining space. The combined amenities of this extended accommodation provide the perfect space for one and all to enjoy. For those family groups, our &Beyond guides and lodge team will provide a host of fun and interactive children’s activities.

When you reach this ultra-remote location, you’ll be rewarded with a fascinating landscape. Visit some of the world’s most unusual and picturesque locations, such as the red dunes or the Moon Valley. You can also visit the mysterious fairy circles, perfectly rounded shapes of desert sand in otherwise lush fields. The fascinating circles inspire speculation – were they created by gods, aliens, wild animals… or something else?
You can visit an authentic Himba village and meet the tribespeople, to get a taste of their lives and culture. See how they have adapted to desert life, including their unusual skincare routine. They use ochre pigment for protection from the harsh desert climate, giving their skin and hair a distinctive reddish hue. We’re grateful to have a close and respectful relationship with the local Himba people.
Get a croc’s-eye-view of the scenery with a cruise along the Kunene in a small pontoon boat. You’ll spot plenty of crocodiles, as well as native birds and plant life. The river forms part of the border with Angola, and you may be able to stop for a peaceful sundowner on the Angolan side of the riverbank. (The boat cruise is not always available from September-November, depending on rainfall)
Walking puts the scale of this epic landscape in perspective. Enjoy a magical early-morning trek along one of the mountain chains that enclose and protect the Marienfluss Valley. Witness the morning rituals of birds and wildlife. A sundown climb is another must, and your effort will be rewarded with exquisite mountaintop views.
The camp features 6 state-of-the-art e-bikes for you to use and explore the surrounding landscapes. Each bicycle is equipped with a helmet, a spare battery for longer journeys and panier bags on the sides to store your belongings. These bicycles can be used at any time, however we recommend you start early in the morning with a 3-kilometre guided ride to the boat station followed by an early morning boat cruise on the Kunene River.
