The Cultural Heritage Centre is one of the most comprehensive curio shops, boasting genuine antiques and African artwork, as well as an outstanding selection of gemstones, including the legendary Tanzanite and Tsavorite.

For those passionate about true community upliftment, then Shanga is the place. A heart- warming project dedicated to empowering the disabled community, Shanga produces unique hand-made products from recycled materials.

Not forgetting the beginnings of this century-old estate, Legendary Lodge is surrounded by a working coffee plantation. Guests can spend a morning following a coffee bean from tree to cup: from the agriculture, to picking and roasting, to the making of that delicious blend many of us enjoy at home, as Tanzanian coffee is exported far and wide.

You can enjoy game drives from here on a shared or on exclusive use basis. We use closed 4 x 4 Land Cruiser vehicles. Very reliable, comfortable, and well-maintained with charging facilities, fridge on board, photography stabilizing bean bags, vehicle recovery equipment, VHF Radio communication, specialized guidebooks, first aid kit, seatbelts, binoculars and last but not least, great guides who undergo bi-yearly training with our internal and external guide trainers.

A balloon safari offers an opportunity to see the wildlife areas from a unique perspective. Take in the wilderness below as you silently float over the vast plains (in whichever direction the wind takes you). Follow a large herd of elephants, see a lion stalk its prey, or just marvel at the magnificent scenery before touching down for a bush breakfast like no other. If you only take one balloon flight in your life, this is the place to do it.

No safari is complete without experiencing a traditional outdoor, open-air lunch or dinner. Relax under the natural canopy of an acacia tree, while your personal butler serves up a feast. Nothing is quite so essentially safari as this. White linen, fine bone china and crystal glassware create a real "Out of Africa" experience - both daytime and night.

Just because the sun has set, doesn’t mean that Tarangire goes to sleep. It becomes another world altogether bathed in the moonlight. It becomes a sensory experience and one that we highly recommend when staying with us at Lemala Mpingo Ridge. The star-studded skies, the gentle winds, shadows of elephants as they meander through the forests, the still silence broken by the lions roar and the shining eyes of curious wildlife peering at you as you drive by.

During the 2.5 hours canoe on Lake Manyara, you will get a unique perspective on Tanzanian wildlife and landscape. A well-trained guide will accompany the safari. He will ensure your safety and enjoyment while explaining more about the natural history of Manyara and its surroundings. The best way to make this activity work is to have your guide take you on a game drive as normal and meet our guides at the Endala picnic site either in the morning or the afternoon. Your guide can pick you up a few hours later at Msasa lake view point. Note - The water level in the lake needs to be sufficient.

his is a truly authentic and unique way to get a glimpse of the way of life in Tanzania. You will meet Sunday, a local hero to many, who has a great story to tell. We believe that a visit to a Masai Boma should be an authentic cultural and educational experience based on mutual respect. Over the years we have built a close relationship with Chief Lubolo, a young visionary leader with a strong passion for education. He invites our guests to one of his bomas offering a memorable opportunity to interactively experience the Maasai way of life. During the excursion through the traditional boma guests will participate in various unique cultural activities, have the opportunity to sit and talk with Chief Lubolo and are encouraged to delve as deep into the experience as possible! There will also be a possibility to buy traditional beaded jewelry handmade by the women in the boma. A rare and authentic glimpse into the distinctive Maasai culture.

Outing to Tloma, a nearby village, where you have the opportunity to meet a local family and learn about Iraqw culture and traditional ways of life. Discover the age-old process of making pots, try your hand at pounding grain and taste the local brew.

Visitors can donate a school desk, engraved with their own special message and personally deliver it to the school whilst staying at Gibb’s Farm. The material is purchased locally and our carpenters expertly build the desks to specifications after which they carefully engrave the guest’s message by hand. Guests are welcome to join our carpenters for an afternoon in the workshop and assist with

the crafting of the desks.

Meet the students and teachers at Tloma Primary School and learn firsthand about the successes and challenges of education in rural Tanzania.

On this two-hour hike through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will discover a magnificent waterfall and incredible “elephant caves” created by elephants digging up the earth to ingest the vitamin-rich soil. You may see buffalo, bushbuck, waterbuck and baboons, also attracted by the soil.

Indigenous Maasai healers lead you through the Ngorongoro Forest, where over 20 medicinal plants commonly used in Tanzania to treat health problems are described.

A Gibb’s Farm naturalist is your guide for this tranquil two-hour walk through the farm and into the Ngorongoro Forest. Discover more than 200 species of birds, dozens of native plants and trees, and an incredibly diverse array of wildlife.

After an early Breakfast, experience a guided drive to Lake Eyasi to meet a local Hadzabe tribe. Meet the family and learn about the culture and the traditional ways of living of the Hadzabe people. Hunt together with the warriors and taste the local brew.

Join the team for the early morning bread making ritual. What could be more fun than baking brea, and of course, sampling it hot from the oven?

Game drives at Namiri Plains can be tailored to suit your requirements. Choose to rise with the birds and head out on an early morning game drive, return to camp for a light lunch and then head out again in the afternoon or embrace a full day in the bush, supplied with a delicious packed breakfast or picnic lunch to maximise game viewing time. A walk in the wild gives you the chance to experience Africa’s natural beauty from a different perspective and witness a whole new world of the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Our walking safaris in the Serengeti are conducted by experienced guides and are the perfect complement to conventional game viewing by vehicle. A unique opportunity to spend an informative evening with Namiri Plains’ resident cheetah researcher while donating to the incredible Serengeti Cheetah Project. The Serengeti Cheetah Project has operated for over 30 years and is part of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). This dedicated project monitors and studies fluctuations in birth and survival rates of cheetahs, which leads to predicting the future of cheetah numbers in other parts of their range, as well as providing valuable insight into the challenges facing cheetah, recognising solutions to reduce these conflicts, hopefully resulting in the conservation of this elegant species. For a different perspective of the wildlife, glide over the rolling plains of the Serengeti on a romantic and evocative balloon safari. Take to the skies in the early morning and watch the sun cast its first rays over the land before touching down mid-morning for a splendid breakfast and glass of sparkling wine – the perfect way to end one of the most unique and magical experiences on the continent. Namiri Plains is home to one of our specially modified photographic vehicles. The open vehicle allows keen amateurs and professional photographers alike to shoot at eye level with wildlife. It is equipped with all the gear to ensure award-winning shots — from beanbags and camera rests to 360° swivel seats. Please enquire to ensure availability of the vehicle and confirm any additional fees.

Daily game drives with professional guides and trackers provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals, while late afternoon drives reveal the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa. The shallow sea grass patches, sandy slopes and coral reefs just off the beach are a haven for critters. Robust ghost pipe fish, leaf fish, harlequin crabs and even zebra snout seahorses are just a few of the incredible oceanic beings to be seen, as well as various eels, shrimp, scorpion fish and octopus. Further from shore, coral walls drop drastically from the surface into the depths. While Mnemba Island is not commonly known for larger sea creatures, lucky divers may catch a glimpse of grey reef shark, giant grouper or other denizens of the deep on occasion.

PADI BUBBLEMAKER & DISCOVER SCUBA
This introductory diving course is perfect for little ones or adults who are keen to explore the fascinating underwater world of diving, facilitated by experienced, multilingual professionals.

MANDATORY REFRESHER DIVER COURSE
This course is mandatory for any diver with less than 25 dives, who has not logged a dive in the last six-months, or any diver with 26 – 100 dives, who has not logged a dive in the last year (12-months).

PADI OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE
Learn to scuba dive independently in buddy teams to a depth of 18 m (59 ft). This four-dive course takes three to four days, where upon conclusion, guests will receive a lifetime global certification.

PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE
This dive course only applies to already certified Open Water divers. After successfully completing five dives, the course will certify divers to dive down to a maximum depth of 30 m (98 ft).

SINGLE TRAINING DIVE & ADVENTURE TEST
This is ideal for those who would like to try specialised dives, such as deep dives and drift dives. This course will be credited towards your Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water diver certification.

Give in to the lure of total isolation and pretend that you are marooned on a deserted island, albeit one where your personal butler is perpetually on hand to cater to your every desire! You may catch a fleeting glimpse of your fellow guests as you lounge in the tropical sunshine in your private beach sala or take a leisurely walk around the island. But you can also choose to make the most of your solitude with a private dinner in a secluded forest clearing or enjoy the light-hearted intimacy of a sandcastle dinner set to the sound of the waves gently sighing on the shore.

Families and groups will fall in love with the tranquility of the island. We will only accommodate a maximum of two children under 12-years at Mnemba Island at any given time. Travel to Zanzibar is recommended for children eight-years or older.

Children visiting the lodge can take advantage of the fun-filled and interactive WILDchild programme thatoffers various activities such as:

• Assist with replanting trees in the island indigenous tree nursery, learning about the various vegetation types that grow in and around the island
• Join the lodge chefs to welcome the local fishermen onshore and check where the catch-of-the day is on the Southern African Sustainable Seafood Initiative (SASSI) List
• Assist the Community and Conservation (CNC) Rangers with building coral bases to plant coral
• Learn about the incredible impact initiatives in and around the Mnemba Atoll in the Ocean Without Border’s (OWB) interactive centre
• Get involved in the dive centres helping the OWB staff
• Go snorkelling along the coral reef
• Help in the OWB staff input new and exciting sightings in the Beyond Sightings platform, while learning about the various sea creatures
• Go on beach and nature walks around the island
• Hand-line fishing from a dhow or the beach
• Enjoy sea kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding
• Bake turtle biscuits with the lodge chef
