Welgelegen House | Cape Town

7 Sep 2018 - 10 Sep 2018

Welgelegen Guest House is a stylish boutique lodge set in two pretty Victorian buildings, in a quiet cul-de-sac in the Gardens area of Cape Town - adjacent to trendy Kloof Street with its inviting bistros, restaurants and shops. Welgelegen is Dutch for 'well-placed' and this is an apt comment as the lodge lies at the foot of Table Mountain and is only five minutes drive from the V&A Waterfront or the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. Welgelegen is perfect for those seeking stylish accommodation with a friendly ambience, but who don't need the all the trappings of a five star hotel. The lodge combines both the charm of the Victorian era, with wooden floors and well-preserved architectural details, with an understated contemporary style. Bedrooms all have satellite telephone, air-conditioning, TV, bar-fridge, tea/coffee tray and stylish modern bathrooms. The breakfast room and sitting area are chic and modern with African artefacts specially selected by the Welgelegen's owner, Fiona Evans. There is a quiet courtyard garden with a small plunge pool, ideal for alfresco breakfasts.

Dabis Guest Farm | Tiras Mountains

15 Sep 2018 - 16 Sep 2018

Since 1926, Dabis is owned by the Gaugler family and is now run by the fourth generation. They have achieved an effective balance between welcoming visitors and operating as an authentic farm.

Accommodation is provided in 7 comfortable twin-bed rooms with an en-suite shower (one has a bath instead) and toilet. Guests also benefit from a swimming pool and a tennis court. One of the main attractions of staying here, however, is learning about the farm.

In depth the techniques will be explained, complete with information on the area’s climate over the last four decades. Dabis now farms mainly with crossbred sheep, for meat production, using advanced rotation techniques to survive on the low rainfall. Camp Kipwe | Twyfelfontein

20 Sep 2018 - 21 Sep 2018

'Kipwe', meaning blessed in Swahili, is built creatively into the large granite boulders of the Twyfelfontein area and is found in the Beautiful Damaraland, Namibia

Camp Kipwe is nestled in the boulders, facing out onto superb scenery. Incorporating boulders, small red basalt rocks and mopane branches, it has a natural organic feel. The eight rooms at Kipwe are round in shape, with large outside decks to admire the view. The outside, partially open bathrooms adjoining the bedrooms have boulder, cement and rock walls, and roofs of rough mopane branches. Hot water is supplied by wood-burning 'donkey' boilers.
The central area of Kipwe Camp is raised and comprises four thatched domes; the reception area and curio shop, dining room, lounge and bar all with amazing views toward the Aba Huab riverbed. An outside boma area is an additional venue for fire-cooked meals.

A small swimming pool built into the rocks and a viewpoint with 360 degrees of beauty, are two attractive outdoor features. Activities at the camp include nature drives with the possibility of seeing the desert-adapted elephants in the dry season, Twyfelfontein excursions to the rock engravings and guided walks in front of the camp with Kipwe's experienced guides.

Grootberg Lodge | Grootberg

21 Sep 2018 - 23 Sep 2018

Grootberg Lodge is a landmark in Namibia for the tourism industry as it is the first middle-market establishment in the country that is 100% owned by the conservancy. The European Union funded the project through the Ministry of Environment and Tourism's Development Programme with a donation of N$4.5 million to develop the 12-room Lodge. At the same time, the private sector has been called in to supply the training and management skills until the community becomes self-sustainable.

The purpose of the Grootberg Lodge is not only to offer a professional service, great surroundings, extremely good food, well-trained guides and exceptionally good local management but, at the same time, to benefit the local community thanks to the revenues generated by the Lodge.

A variety of activities are available at an additional cost. These include guided walks, game drives, elephant tracking, rhino tracking and horse rides.

25 Sep 2018 - 26 Sep 2018

Okonjima Plains Camp in the Omboroko Mountains is the main camp at Okonjima and has 10 en suite comfortable chalets nestled around a central garden. However the emphasis here is not on the accommodation but on their famous Africat rescue project, a non-profit project to preserve and rehabilitate large predators including leopard and brown hyena. Visitors learn a great deal about leopard and cheetah, and can view them at close range - perhaps track radio-collared leopards in in their natural habitat and support ongoing research, or visit the cheetah project. After dinner you can visit the hide to spot night creatures like caracal, porcupine or honey-badgers. There are a number of  highly recommended walking trails in a 'safe zone' for those staying longer. The lodge has an indoor dining area and sitting room, a pool and a large tea garden for relaxing during the heat of the day.
