Dead Valley Lodge is situated inside the Namib-Naukluft Park, between Seriem and Elim Dune and near the Dead Valley at Sossusvlei, Namibia. With its extensive, unique and creatively entertaining Restaurants, Bars, Deli, Lobby-Lounge, Sea Facing Terraces, Beach Kiosk and state of the art Conference & Banqueting Center, all set on the Mole, a historic and iconic site surrounded by Ocean on three sides, the Strand Hotel Swakopmund is a social epicenter and destination in itself for all visitors to and residents of Swakopmund.

Its architectural inspiration finds its roots deep in Namibian-German history and reflects this in a tasteful contemporary manner. The interiors are residential in nature, and the brief to all designers involved was to create a non-hotel, hotel. One as charming and welcoming as the town it is located in. Simply very warm and comfortable, and as they say in German: “gemütlich” providing a genuine “sense-of-place” atmosphere adding to any Namibian visit.

Arriving at the Strand is a dramatic experience as one passes through its 13m high and 9m wide Ocean View Atrium which travels right through the Hotel offering sea views at either end. Bungalows

The twin-bedded bungalows are in the shape of rondavels and have boulder, cement and rock walls ensuring that on entry, feel like a cool secluded cave with outside decks to admire the view. The en-suite, private bathrooms are built amongst the rocks, allowing guests to take advantage of the outdoor weather. Hot water is supplied by wood-burning ‘donkey’ boilers and solar geysers.

Walk up to the sundowner location and make yourself comfortable. Order your drink of choice, or choose from one of our famous cocktails or mocktails and delight in sumptuous snacks.

The lodge’s hallmarks are luxury and plenty of privacy. This remarkable place is superbly suited for safari excursions into Etosha. The main building is surrounded by large, ancient mopane trees in a wild, but park-like setting. Upon entering the lobby with the bar and spacious seating areas, the eye is drawn through the open building to the vast savannah, where often enough the first animals can be spotted right then. The large infinity pool also offers fantastic views of the open plain in front of the lodge and the two waterholes. The best spot to enjoy the sunset with a drink of your choice. After that we will treat you to a delicious 5-course dinner in our restaurant.

Our spacious chalets have been integrated into nature with loving care. They are placed so far apart and aligned so cleverly, that there is no sign of a neighbor. As a result, the rooms offer a high degree of privacy and unobstructed views of the savannah. The ingredients for a relaxed sojourn are 75 m² of living space, tasteful natural furnishings and colors, air conditioning and Wi-Fi in the room, minibar, tea and coffee station, and above all the incredible view. Great attention to detail rounds off the experience.

Etosha Oberland is conveniently situated a 10km drive from the Andersson Gate, south of Etosha National Park – a good starting point for excursions in the Park with exciting game viewing experiences.

Activity offered by Etosha Oberland

- Drive to the National Park on a safari 4x4 vehicle accompanied by a Guide with in depth knowledge of wildlife in the area. Departure varies seasonally, depending on park opening hours, and return around 14:00-16:00. The trips last for approximately 7-8 hrs.
A minimum of 2 guests or single supplement applicable; small groups only (maximum of 6 guests per vehicle)

Double Tent

Each tent is mounted on a wooden deck, 1.5 m above the ground, providing a different perspective of the bush. A large glass sliding door leads into the tent, all windows and doors are covered with fly-screen. Large glass windows from floor to ceiling allow for plenty of air circulation during the night. Air conditioning adds an extra level of comfort on very warm afternoons. The open plan bathroom sports a ceiling, two large windows and a separate, enclosed toilet. The shower cubicle is glass from top to bottom. Unzip the external canvas cover as far as you are comfortable with and your time in the shower takes on a new dimension.

The furnishing of the tent is minimal, comfortable and has a light feel to it. A mini-bar, coffee station, safe deposit box, telephone, mosquito net, sockets for charging storage batteries, hair drier and air conditioning are standard. Wifi is available at rooms/tents and common areas.
