The spectacular location of Ellerman House, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean from the foot of Lion’s Head, is undoubtedly part of the property’s enduring allure. Its breathtaking position inspires calm serenity while being in close proximity to the Cape’s numerous attractions.
The charming boutique hotel you see today is an original Cape Edwardian mansion that was built in 1906 and has stood sentinel over Bantry Bay for more than 115 years. With only 13 bedrooms and two private villas, we excel at offering our guests a world-class level of service that is intuitive and understated.

The top floor (street level) includes a glass-walled entrance foyer that opens up into light-filled living, dining and entertainment areas decorated in soft, soothing sea tones with natural stone and unembellished wood finishes. Fold-away, floor-to-ceiling glass doors on two sides seamlessly integrate the indoor and outdoor entertainment areas, infinity pool, and spectacular ocean views. To the right of the entrance foyer is an open-plan kitchen designed for social, interactive cooking equipped with a large central island, sleek timber cupboards, a separate scullery and walk-in cold room. Indigenous gardens and flowing water welcome guests to the entrance of Villa One with its breathtaking ocean views. The Ellerman House Spa and two deluxe spa bedrooms are located on this floor, with Villa One on the upper two levels accessed either by access controlled lift or staircase.
Level two (middle floor):
Sophisticated minimalist décor and a stunning collection of original art are key characteristics of the living areas, including a study, TV lounge, dining room, and entertainment area. The contemporary, stainless-steel kitchen has a separate scullery and a well-stocked cold room. A personal chef is on call to create breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. The emphasis is on fresh, locally sourced, and seasonal ingredients. The chef can cater to any dietary needs or restrictions, food allergies, or children’s meals.
Level three:
The top floor has a reading room and three bedrooms, each with a spacious bathroom featuring infinity mirrors. The master bedroom (Aqua) has ocean views from the bedroom and bathroom. The second bedroom (Lilac) also has ocean views and a striking Balinese-style bathroom. The third bedroom (Yellow) faces the Twelve Apostles mountain range and is designed as a twin room with two single beds (all the rooms can be converted into king or twin beds on request). The Ellerman House art collection takes visitors to this fine hotel on a journey that explores the huge social and cultural shift that South African art has made from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. The art in this collection tells of the character of our land and the expression of our unique South African experience. From the time of the early pictorial historians of the midnineteenth century, such as Thomas Bowler, you acknowledge that this country has a flavour of its own – an essential nature that distinguishes it from other places. Communities in South Africa were extremely physically and culturally isolated from international centres of artistic innovation in the early 20th Century - a time before instantaneous globalisation of today. The Ellerman House collection traces the progress of pioneering work done in the 1930s by a generation of artists, such as Gregoire Boonzaaier, Maggie Laubser and Irma Stern, who were members of The New Group. Progressive identification by artists, such as Walter Battiss and Alexis Preller, with the essential nature of the land and its people - its Africanism, further reinforced the unique qualities of this land. The emergence of black pioneering artist like Gerard Sekoto and George Pemba began a process of cultural integration of the country’s ethnic communities into a unified South African art. In the Ellerman House Contemporary Gallery, an eclectic, outspoken and energetic generation of current artists such as Benon Lutaaya, Heidi Fourie & Blessing Ngobeni are pushing the boundaries of the ordinary in order to create work that explores relevant issues in post-modern South African society. The Collection records the spirit of the times and the development of art and culture in South Africa. Most of the almost 1000 artworks are exhibited as part of the unique artistic experience that guests can enjoy at the Ellerman House.

Yoga means ‘union’ in Sanskrit and refers to the bringing together of mind, body and spirit. Asanas, also a Sanskrit word, refers to the poses and postures developed in India to join mind and body in spiritual awareness.
At Londolozi we have added the powerful elements of nature to the yoga experience, using both the natural energy of the location and tailor made Asanas, to create a yoga form which is suitable for beginners and intermediate practitioners.

Londolozi’s fully equipped gym offers running, cycling and rowing machines which allow for a perfect workout, complemented by a daily routine of eating well and relaxing into harmony with nature. The gym is situated in Varty Camp and is open to all guests.
Campfires, storytelling, red wine and good company are the hallmark of any winter safari. Coming from a long line of storytellers, Londolozi’s history is steeped in the tradition of campfire yarns told late into the night. In each of the 5 exclusive camps you can hear the whispers of our ancestors and embodied in our history, are the legends and myths of the mysteries and adventures of safari. Each camp has its own spirit and each has its own campfire which awaits you.
On visiting Londolozi in 1992 Mandela saw the vision that was being lived by the employees and management in collaboration with nature.

It is in this light that the Freedom’s Way art installation has been completed to draw attention to the values which Nelson Mandela put forward to our nation and to compliment the Londolozi village walk which all guests are encouraged to experience.
Starting at the 1926 Sparta Camp, situated in the heart of Varty Camp, the village walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela is led by Linah Lamula. This short walk from Varty Camp is best taken after breakfast. The village walk allows guests to interact with many of our staff and their families who have lived and worked at Londolozi for over 30 years.
While it is important to recognise Mandela’s solo achievements, it is critical that we take his passion into our own lives, taking forward the elements of great leadership to heal the human affliction in the world. Nelson Mandela is an icon and leader who is loved by all South Africans, young, old, rich and poor. He is known and respected throughout the world. Through all he suffered and achieved and through his attitude and values he has taught us the most valuable lessons as a country and each of us individuals.

The Photographic Studio offers guests the chance to rent a multitude of professional level photographic bodies, lenses and accessories. Gone are the days of lugging heavy camera gear around the world. Now it’s as simple as pre-booking your gear and finding it ready for use upon your arrival at the lodge.
First-time photographers can also try out the latest telephoto lens and body setups by requesting the equipment at the lodge. If you want to capture a close-up of a leopard in a tree, a fish eagle in flight or zebras grooming each other, the photographic studio has the right lens to get you the perfect shot.
The Photographic Studio- on location at Londolozi- is very popular with Londolozi guests, who are able to direct and produce their own creative work. Two cabanas are set under local thatch, amongst a lush island forest. The cabanas boast a light and airy colour scheme that combines tropical chic with a distinct African feel and reminders of the area’s Portuguese heritage. The cosy interiors of the cabanas makes them perfect for couples and honeymooners. The cabanas are slightly smaller than casinhas and vertical in shape. There is no sitting area in the cabanas, however a lounger is located at the foot of the bed. The ensuite bathroom features an outdoor shower and is located behind the bed. The cabanas offer private timber decks and cool rim flow pools. There is also a private sala with a hanging daybed, as well as private sun loungers situated on the beach

Families will also love splashing around in the private swimming pool set on a sheltered wooden veranda overlooking the beach. The Casa Familia is situated on the edge of the main lodge, offering private views of the ocean plus its own stretch of sandy white beach.

Snorkelling is ideal for those who do not wish to do a scuba diving accreditation but who want to confidently explore the shallower coral reefs, situated off Benguerra Island, with the help of a snorkel.
A guided snorkelling course is also available at an additional cost, offered by andBeyond’s Benguerra Island specialist dive masters, and covers safety procedures, equipment, currents and suggested snorkelling spots.
Hop aboard a traditional dhow (a wooden sailing vessel owned by one of the local people of the island and mostly used for fishing). A friendly fisherman will fetch you from your Casita or Cabana in the late afternoon, where you will board his dhow for an unforgettable cruise around the bay.
The adventure can be tailored according to your requirements and varies from a 30 minute trip to the school or 2 hours around the Island. The journey will take you past the lakes and dunes on the northern side of the island, past the school, the church and through the village so you can interact with some of the local people and find out more about the community projects that are run on the island.
Spend an afternoon indulging on a mouth-watering “Cast-Away” picnic and explore the highest dune in the Bazaruto Archipelago. You will have the opportunity to simply put your feet up and enjoy the breathtaking, 360 degree views of South Point – bring your camera along for excellent photographic opportunities and keep a look out for frolicking dolphins at play.

Horseback riding is the perfect activity to take in the exceptional beauty of Benguerra Island.
Enjoy a different perspective of this piece of paradise, at a pace that is comfortable for you. Nine horses and a dedicated guide, based at Benguerra Lodge, are on hand to introduce you to fantastic trails (suitable for all riding levels from first time to experienced riders and with a 85kg weight restriction).

Equine enthusiasts of all ages, and riding levels, will have the memorable opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled Swimming with Horses adventure, on &Beyond Benguerra Island. Dress down for the occasion, in just your swimwear, and ride bareback into azure waters, floating amongst the waves on top of your mount. Expect plentiful splashing, and bouts of laughter, as the horses absolutely love to frolic in the ocean. Afterwards, hop off your steed and allow them to enjoy a well-deserved roll on the beach. This 30 to 45 minute adventure allows for a maximum of 4 guests per swim and is perfect as a standalone activity or can be added after a more extensive horseback exploration of the island. The Swimming with Horses activity is seasonal as well as weather and tide dependent.
